Dynasty Blueprint: 5 Takeaways From Week Seven

Ryan McDowell

Editor's Note: Ryan debuted the Dynasty Blueprint term all the way back in 2014, focusing on his personal dynasty strategy and philosophy. He introduced ideas like punting running backs and the now-common productive struggle. This series expands on the original, providing an in-depth look inside his dynasty mind.

This article and all of the content on DLF is for you, the reader. The goal is to make you a better dynasty player and bring home some titles. Hopefully, this will help you reach that goal.

DYNASTY FIVE

Here are the five dynasty related stories that have my attention coming off another week of NFL action.

Browns' Ups and Downs

It’s been an eventful week for the Cleveland Browns. One week ago today, the team traded veteran receiver Amari Cooper (more on that later) to the Bills. At 1-5, the team was clearly waving the white flag, but head coach Kevin Stefanski remained oddly stubborn when it came to the idea of benching quarterback Deshaun Watson, whom most agreed was the league’s worst starting signal-caller, all things considered. After Sunday’s game, the decision is out of the coach’s hands. Watson suffered a lower leg injury that was immediately identified as a torn Achilles. The controversial quarterback’s season is over and there has already been much speculation that this injury could ultimately end his career. This season, we’ve seen veteran quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Kirk Cousins return from similar injuries, with mixed returns. So, it can be done, but will the Browns, or any other team, want Deshaun Watson? At this point, that seems very unlikely. The latest DLF Dynasty Superflex ADP placed Watson as the QB30 and 113 overall, so much of his once-elite dynasty value was already gone.

It wasn’t all bad news (and some would debate if the Watson injury was even a negative for the Browns) for Cleveland this weekend. The week even marked the return of veteran running back Nick Chubb. Following a freakish leg injury over a year ago, there was concern that Chubb may never play again. Not only did he get back on the field, but with Jerome Ford out of the lineup, Chubb served as the lead back and led the running backs in rushing, though that required just a meager 22 yards on 11 carries. Current DLF Dynasty Rankings place Chubb as the RB36 but now that he is back in the lineup and easily the top option in the Browns’ offense, expect him to continue to gain value.
