2024 Coaching Changes: The Dynasty Impact of Dan Quinn to the Washington Commanders

Jeff Smith

Savvy fantasy football managers focus on all positions of a football team, including the coaching staff. Off-season changes can hugely impact skill players’ production at certain positions. We will look at one of the eight coaches who have found new homes and examine the potential dynasty impact on the key members of that team. We have a bonus this season. Our resident IDP expert, Tom Kislingbury, has joined us to cover the defensive impact of the changes.

The Ron Rivera era ended after four disappointing seasons and a 26-40-1 record. The Commanders replaced their grizzled, aging, defensive-minded coach with Dan Quinn. Quinn is a sprightly 52 years old compared to Rivera’s 60.

This is Quinn’s second stint as an NFL head coach. From 2015 to 2020, he led the Atlanta Falcons to a mediocre 43-42 record before being fired in October after an 0-5 start. You may also remember Quinn as being on the other side of the 28-3 Super Bowl loss to the New England Patriots in 2016.

I am not sure what the Washington front office saw in Quinn to recycle him as a head coach, especially given the bevy of young and talented coaches available. Let’s hope they know what they are doing. The NFL is just better when the team from our nation's capital is not toiling away in mediocrity.
