How to Successfully Rebuild a Roster

Kevin White

The goal of any dynasty league is to become a true contender on a yearly basis or rebuild in a way that leads you to this pathway. In this two-part series I’ll be highlighting the key moves to make your good rosters great for contenders and your bad rosters great for rebuilders, through successful roster building.

The first article in the series highlighted the key moves for contenders, with this article focusing on building a successful roster for rebuilding dynasty teams.

Embracing Risk

The concept of embracing risk is important in all stages of the dynasty cycle, however this is key for rebuilding rosters. Embracing risk is the idea of playing aggressively, taking a chance on acquiring risky assets - with a view to winning big should the asset hit the higher-end range of outcome. As a rebuilder, making small and safe moves to turn around your underperforming roster requires you to get more decisions correct and naturally takes longer. By embracing risk, there is less to predict correctly and the one-year rebuild becomes more attainable.
