Read moreThe NFL Draft is behind us, rookie drafts are taking place, and as dynasty managers we are looking ahead to the upcoming season. In our Dynasty Rookie Post-Draft Update series, we break down all the incoming fantasy-relevant rookies, looking at their profiles and where they fit. The basis of the rookie profile involves the usage of STORM analysis, focusing on five key components: Situation, Talent, Opportunity, Risk, and Market.
Name: Spencer Rattler
Position: Quarterback
Pro Team: New Orleans Saints
College Team: South Carolina (Transferred from Oklahoma)
Draft Status: Round 5, Pick 150
Rattler has had a tumultuous journey to the pros. He left high school with a mountain of hype. He joined one of the top offensive systems in the college ranks, playing for one of the top coaches in the country. And then, he was benched, and faded off into oblivion in Columbia, South Carolina. Now he’s finally made it to the pros, as a fifth-round pick, potentially a third-stringer, who never quite lived up to his expectations in his amateur career.
Rattler was a quarterback prodigy from his days in youth football. His number seven youth jersey is the only number retired in his youth team’s history after he led his program to four Arizona youth championships and was named the United Youth Football Player of the Year. He enrolled at Pinnacle High School in Phoenix and immediately won the starting varsity quarterback job as a freshman. His best season came in his junior year, where he led Pinnacle to a sectional title and a state playoff victory. He finished the year with 3,946 yards, 45 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
