Downs was well on his way to a fairly impressive rookie season in 2023 before an injury slowed him down. Through his first eight games he averaged 12.4 PPR points per game while earning seven targets per game. After suffering a knee injury in week nine, Downs somehow returned the next week and continued to play through the injury although his production suffered. Over his last eight games, he averaged just 7 PPR PPG on 5.1 targets per game and never topped 10 PPR points during that time. This off-season the Colts drafted Adonai Mitchell with a second-round pick adding more competition.
Where does Downs stand now?
The Move - Downs is a talented player whose rookie season would look much better if he hadn't played through injury. If he had just sat for a couple of games and healed up, his per-game numbers likely wouldn’t have suffered. But, with Mitchell being added to the mix and concern over whether Anthony Richardson can support multiple pass catchers, Downs may be a bit of a risky buy. Currently he sits as the WR53 in the May Startup ADP and WR48 in the rankings which lines up with where I have him as well. With that in mind I’m just holding.
