The first round of the 2023 NFL Draft came with a lot of excitement. There were quite a few trades and some surprises. While quarterbacks dominated the top of the draft, let's take a look at the defensive side of the ball, where plenty of talent came off the board. Here is an IDP recap of the first round.
No. 3 pick Houston Texans - Will Anderson Jr, LB Alabama
Anderson came into the draft regarded as the top defensive player available. He was obviously high on Houston's draft board as they traded up to the third pick to snag him. Anderson is a pass rushing force, but also a player who will eat up the run. He is the top IDP player in rookie drafts and depending on your league's scoring, will most likely be a 1st round pick.
No. 5 pick Seattle Seahawks - Devon Witherspoon, CB Illinois
Witherspoon is a shutdown corner, who has great ball skills, but is also tough-nosed and will come up and tackle against the run. While CB is not always a valued position in fantasy football, don't overlook Witherspoon in your rookie IDP drafts.
