Four Quarterbacks to Buy, Sell, or Hold in Dynasty Leagues
As the end of the Super Bowl marks the official beginning of the dynasty off-season, reflection time is over as leagues and leaguemates all begin to focus on future plans. Information is constantly changing and the dynasty values will move in lock-step with it. This series will focus on that market pulse by highlighting players at each spot.
Here are four quarterbacks to watch before NFL free agency:
Kyle Trask, TB – Sell
According to Luke Easterling of Bucs Wire/USA Today, Trask will get a chance to win the Bucs’ starting job in camp. He moved to QB40 in the January superflex ADP and at this point, the window to sell him has opened. Considering Trask has hardly seen any time in two years and is likely in a lame-duck situation, even if he gets a few shots during 2023, anyone still holding him should take advantage of a very low bet ticket they are holding.
The Move – I if was unlucky enough (or naive enough) to still be holding Trask, sell him for any third-round pick. If a team will not part with a pick, ask for a running back who could potentially make a roster. Ultimately, Trask is as valuable as a spot starter, but the window is closing quickly.
Jarrett Stidham, LV – Add
I am going with the heavy hitters following Trask with Stidham… According to OddsChecker, he is the favorite to start the season for the Raiders. Ultimately, this is a temporary band-aid solution as there is a very good chance the team adds a big-name quarterback in free agency or (at minimum) selects one in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The latter would likely give the veteran Stidham the upper hand to start in week one considering he is familiar with the Josh McDaniels offense and the team turned to him (and he played decently) to finish the 2022 season.
The Move – I would not pay anything for Stidham. However, as someone who dropped him following the 2022 season, there are at least live odds for him to start games in 2023. If you can add him for free, take the chance. I would not pay more than a fourth-round pick and ultimately, I would rather determine if I need a spot starter next September before I buy him at all.
Deshaun Watson, CLE – Buy
Watson was a week ten buy and everything here also applies now. The January 2023 superflex ADP has him at QB12 which firmly puts him in the second round of a startup. Although each league is its own market, this means you can start a league by tactically moving up a few spots to the early part of the second round and nabbing Watson. This becomes a fantastic move as the community continues to overreact to the six weeks of poor play for Deshaun during a lame-duck 2022. Bet on the elite play returning while he is attainable.
The Move – The current quarterback market is very difficult to crack when you are trying to buy an elite player at the position. The price is not the barrier, the willingness of someone else to trade an elite passer is. Take advantage of the narrative. I would pay two first-round picks for Watson, if not more. Send the offers. Considering adding to Tua Tagovailoa or Trey Lance to secure him in a league before the window shuts.
Mac Jones, NE – Hold
As we move to the off-season, many managers do not know what to do with Jones. The hiring of Bill O’Brien cannot be any worse for the wear considering what he dealt with last season. He finished 25th (out of 28 quarterbacks with at least 400 snaps) in EPA per play which was a significant downturn from 2021 where he finished eleventh (out of 29) in the same metric. At QB21 in the latest superflex ADP, I am willing to buy back in.
The Move – As I typically say, efficiency keeps jobs. Jones might not have an elite ceiling given his lack of rushing, but many other quarterbacks have done worse and continued to get chances. Ultimately, moving someone like Jared Goff, Geno Smith, Matthew Stafford or Kenny Pickett in a trade for Mac Jones-plus is a bet I will make every day of the week.

Conclusion – The QB market is extremely volatile at this time of the year. We should see the first domino move with Derek Carr signing. There are many other quarterbacks mentioned in trade rumors or contract disputes. The NFL Draft should provide new intrigue to the landscape. It is time to assess your rosters and start making bets.
