Dynasty Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Week Two

Hey, subscribe to the DLF YouTube channel! Thanks to all of you, we are so close to 8,000 subscribers, almost double where we were last year! So if you are not subscribed and would like MORE FREE content from the DLF team, the YouTube channel is the way to go! I won’t stop promoting the channel in this introduction until we hit 10K, so either subscribe to help the cause or stop reading these introductions.

In case you are reading this, there is one bit of information to know before you start reading names. Just like last year’s series, we will be utilizing player rostership percentages, courtesy of real dynasty rosters from 1700 MFL leagues. While this may not be entirely accurate for every individual league, it is very reflective of how managers view who is worthy or not of a roster spot. Now that that’s covered, let’s dive into the waiver wire after week two!

Players to double-check availability and immediately add:

Cooper Rush, QB DAL

Maybe the Cowboys aren’t in as bad of shape as we thought with Rush under center? I understand why he is still rostered in only 70% of superflex leagues, but his performance this week against the Bengals makes him a must-add. While his raw stat line wasn’t great for fantasy, completing only 19 of his 31 passes for 235 yards and a touchdown (13.6 fantasy points), we can’t deny he looked good enough to give us confidence in him and this offense without Dak Prescott. He completed over 61% of his passes on 7.6 yards per attempt, posted a 95.5 passer rating, AND sustained two top-24 fantasy wide receivers. Additionally, this offense can only get better when Michael Gallup returns to play.

If you just lost Trey Lance or lost Prescott and didn’t add Rush last week, he’s a fantastic player to pick up now for any spot starts you might need. The Cowboys play the Giants and Commanders over the next two weeks, plus they are at home against the Lions and Bears in weeks seven and eight, with quarterbacks like Josh Allen, Matthew Stafford, Kirk Cousins, Jalen Hurts, Patrick Mahomes, and Justin Herbert all on bye over those two weeks, so you might need Rush then if Prescott hasn’t returned yet and your star QB is on bye.

Darrel Williams, RB ARI

If you watch the DLF YouTube channel consistently, you would have heard me mention a couple of times that Williams should be on your roster this season, primarily if James Conner gets injured. Well, Conner got injured, and Williams saw 11 opportunities after Conner left. Yes, Eno Benjamin has been the backup running back to start the year, but Williams has the experience of taking over a backfield for an injured starter, doing exactly that last year and finishing as the PPR RB20 on the season with the Chiefs.

Both players split reps and touches over the second half and overtime with Conner out, but Williams proved to be the most effective with his touches, nearly doubling Benjamin’s rushing yards on the same number of carries, and converting on his goal line carry. If both players are available, I honestly want both, but if Benjamin is already rostered, add Williams because he could end up being the 1A on this team due to experience if Conner is out for an extended time.

Greg Dortch, WR ARI

Sticking with the Cardinals, it seems like Dortch could actually be a thing. While he only saw four targets because of Zach Ertz being healthier, he was way more effective and explosive than AJ Green and should continue being the Cardinals’ WR2 with Rondale Moore out. I am really losing faith in Kliff Kingsbury and his ability to call a game and coach in the NFL, but as long as Kyler Murray has to throw 45+ times a game to compete, Dortch should see enough targets to keep himself relevant, and he’s talented enough to actually do something on his own with the ball in his hands.

Noah Brown, WR DAL

Another Cowboy who should be added in most leagues is the current WR2 without Michael Gallup, Noah Brown. I’ll be honest, I kind of shrugged off Brown’s performance last week for this article, as he caught five passes for 68 yards against Tampa Bay, but that was a mistake that will probably cost some more FAAB this week than last. However, it’s great to see Brown continue producing a second week in a row with a new quarterback to improve our confidence in him. Brown again was second among wide receivers in targets, catching all five for 91 yards and a score, showcasing that a second-team connection that often finds its way into the real game from practice.

Brown is a great add and potential starter in your lineups as long as Michael Gallup remains off the field, but even when Gallup returns, Brown should still have value. We have seen the Dallas WR3 be valuable for fantasy with Dak Prescott’s ability to spread the ball around, and we have also seen great games from backup receivers in starting roles for the Cowboys due to injuries. Cedrick Wilson saw a handful of games where he was fantasy relevant with either or both Amari Cooper or CeeDee Lamb out of the lineup. Even Brown himself had a 6-53 game on nine targets last year on Thanksgiving when both Cooper and Lamb were out. I rarely recommend wide receiver handcuffs, but Brown could prove to become a trusted one in this Cowboys offense.

Ashton Dulin, WR IND

Similar to Greg Dortch, Ashton Dulin has found himself in a valuable situation for fantasy, which is potentially the Colts WR2 on the season, and the WR1 on Sunday with no Michael Pittman. He actually didn’t see a significant increase in targets without Pittman, getting seven targets this week compared to six last week, but he turned in a nice game with five receptions for 79 yards. The Colts really need someone to step up as the WR2 on this team, and Dulin could be that guy. Parris Campbell ain’t it. Mike Strachan ain’t it. Alec Pierce was drafted to be it, but only saw two targets last week and missed this because he couldn’t progress through the concussion protocol; plus, he’s a rookie, who could take time to just get involved in general. I would imagine Dulin will still be pretty cheap to acquire on waivers this week, and I think he’s worth it as a speculative add as the season goes along.

Richie James, WR NYG, Mack Hollins, WR LV and Justin Watson, WR KC

Lastly, I wanted to highlight these three names as players who all flashed and did something this week so people might be interested, but I don’t think they should be added on waivers this week.

Watson is the WR4 on Kansas City at best and had two targets on Thursday night, one just happened to be a 41-yard touchdown – not worth an add.

Hollins saw the second most targets this week with eight behind *checks notes* Hunter Renfrow. Davante Adams was basically erased from this game after scoring a touchdown on the first drive, and that will probably never happen again, ever. This was not a normal gameplan for the Raiders and Hollins probably had the best game of his 2022 season this week. He shouldn’t be added because of this performance.

Finally, James has become a thorn in the sides of every fantasy player who has a piece of the Giants offense that isn’t Richie James. He’s had basically the same 5-50 stat line in both weeks so far as the most consistent receiver in this option. I cannot believe that it continues throughout the season as Kadarius Toney basically hasn’t played, Wan’Dale Robinson really hasn’t played, and Kenny Golladay doesn’t even want to play. I will not add who I believe should be the WR4 for Daniel Jones on a terrible Giants offense just because he’s seen 12 targets in two weeks.
