Dynasty Fantasy Football Stat Pack: Week 13

Ryan McDowell

If you follow me on Twitter, you’ve probably noticed a series of tweets I share on a weekly basis regarding player and team defensive performances, all from a fantasy lens. I’m going to be sharing some of that same information with you here.

I use this each week as I am making my own lineup and waiver wire decisions and thought you might find this valuable as well.

Note: The scoring system used for this data is always PPR with four points for passing touchdowns.

All year to date fantasy ranks are based on total points.

Quarterbacks

Week Thirteen QB1s (top 12 scorers)

qb1 1

Unfortunately, the story of the quarterback position in Week Thirteen centered on injuries to multiple starters, including Lamar Jackson, Jimmy Garoppolo and Trevor Lawrence. Garoppolo’s season is over while Jackson is expected to miss some time and Lawrence’s status is unclear. One injured quarterback who was back on the field was the Bears Justin Fields. He didn’t run nearly as much as he was prior to suffering the shoulder injury, but still busted off a 55-yard touchdown run on his way to yet another QB1 performance.

With yet another masterful performance, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts not only held the Week Thirteen QB1 spot but has now moved up to the top of the season-long ranks as well. Hurts is averaging over 25 fantasy points per game, narrowly edging out Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes. Daniel Jones was another riser on the week, moving up to the QB9 spot for the season. Marcus Mariota struggled once again and the Falcons coaching staff now seems open to giving rookie Desmond Ridder a shot at the starting job.

The Raiders have now allowed ten QB1 games on the season, leading the league. The only quarterbacks they held outside of the top twelve were Andy Dalton and Russell Wilson (in their second matchup.) At least some of that is bad luck though as the team is “only” fifth-worst, allowing 24 fantasy points to opposing signal callers. This week, the Raiders face the Rams on Thursday night. With one week to go in the fantasy regular season, even the juiciest of matchups wouldn’t entice me to play John Wolford, Baker Mayfield, or whoever the Rams might roll out.

The Chiefs, Cardinals, Lions, and Vikings have each allowed at least eight QB1 games and with Minnesota and Detroit facing off, there is a chance that game becomes a fantasy bonanza. Meanwhile, the Chiefs face the struggling Broncos and Wilson, while the Cardinals are back in action against the Patriots and Mac Jones.

It’s broken record time…the Eagles still have not allowed a QB1 game on the season. This week, the Eagles face division foe Daniel Jones and the Giants. Other teams allowing less than 18 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks include: San Francisco (vs. Tom Brady), Cincinnati (vs. Deshaun Watson), Dallas (vs. Davis Mills), Houston (vs. Dak Prescott), and Denver (vs. Mahomes.)

Running Backs

Week Thirteen RB1s (top 12 scorers)

rb1 1

What a great week for current and former backup running backs. Tony Pollard is no longer the backup in Dallas, drawing an even workload, at worst, and once again posting a high-end RB1 performance. Samaje Perine finished among the top-ten fantasy backs for the third straight game in place of the injured Joe Mixon. Perine’s play has allowed the Bengals to be patient with Mixon, who will most likely return to the field this week. D’Andre Swift finally lived up to the expectations fantasy managers had for him entering the season, playing his best game since Week One. AJ Dillon, Rachaad White, and Zonovan Knight, or other second fiddles who played well in Week Thirteen.

Year to Date RB1s

The top-twelve running back group is the exact same dozen as a week ago with almost no movement at all. Injured Joe Mixon did drop two spots down to RB11. Austin Ekeler and Christian McCaffrey continue to be locked in as weekly elite backs while Josh Jacobs is in the midst of a breakout season, though his schedule gets very difficult very soon.

Most RB1 Games Allowed

rb4 1

The Chargers and Falcons have allowed the most RB1 games on the season, each surrendering at least eight top-twelve games. Surprisingly though, they are not among the three teams allowing at least 28 fantasy points per game. That group includes Houston, Cleveland, and Seattle. The Chargers face the Dolphins duo of Jeff Wilson and Raheem Mostert while the Falcons are on bye. Other backs with plus matchups include Tony Pollard and Ezekiel Elliott (vs. HOU), Joe Mixon (vs. CLE), and D’Onta Foreman (vs. SEA.)

The Patriots have only given up one RB1 game on the season and are among the two teams allowing less than 17 fantasy points per game to opposing backfields, with the 49ers being the other. New England travels to Arizona for a Monday Night Football tilt against James Conner and the Cardinals. The 49ers face off against Leonard Fournette, Rachaad White, and the Buccaneers. Other backs with challenging matchups in Week Fourteen include McCaffrey (vs. TB), Dameon Pierce (vs. DAL), and Travis Etienne (vs. TEN.)

Wide Receivers

Week Thirteen WR1s (top 12 scorers)

wr1 1

Davante Adams is on a major tear. With both Darren Waller and Hunter Renfrow on the injured reserve, Adams is the clear and obvious target on a game-by-game, even a drive-by-drive basis. Still, Adams has been able to dominate with some of the best performances of his career. Adams has scored at least 32 fantasy points 14 times in his career with four of those coming this season with the Raiders.

Rookies Christian Watson and Garret Wilson each stayed hot, each notching their fourth WR1 game of the season. This is the same amount as CeeDee Lamb, AJ Brown, and DeAndre Hopkins.

Year to Date WR1s

wr2 1

Nearly every receiver among the top twelve shifted around in Week Thirteen, including Tee Higgins, who fell off the list altogether. Risers included Adams, AJ Brown, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Tyler Lockett. Justin Jefferson, Jaylen Waddle, and Amari Cooper were among the fallers, along with the injured Cooper Kupp. After missing the past three games, Kupp remaining among the WR1 group is very impressive.

Most WR1 Games Allowed

wr4 1

The Lions, Rams, and Titans have each allowed ten WR1 games on the season, separating themselves from all other teams by a wide margin. The Rams face the ultimate challenge this week of trying to slow down Adams and the Raiders, while the Lions face Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, and the Vikings. The Titans host the Jaguars and Christian Kirk, although Lawrence’s status will have a huge impact on that game.

Other teams that offer positive matchups for receivers include the Vikings (vs. St. Brown), Steelers (vs. Devin Duvernay), Chiefs (vs. Jerry Jeudy), and Ravens (vs George Pickens and Diontae Johnson.)

In part, because they can’t find a way to stop the run, the Texans have actually been a tough matchup for opposing passing games. This week, they face in-state rivals Dallas and Lamb. The Giants (vs. AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith), Broncos (vs. Juju Smith-Schuster), and Jets (vs. Stefon Diggs) are other difficult matchups for opposing receivers this week.

Tight Ends

Week Thirteen TE1s (top 12 scorers)

te1 1

Buccaneers rookie Cade Otton finished his Week Thirteen game with 28 yards and a touchdown, giving him 14.8 fantasy points for the week. A solid game certainly, but worthy of the overall TE1 performance for the week? This is another example of why many dynasty players are beyond frustrated with the tight end position. Along with Otton, another rookie, Greg Dulcich, enjoyed a solid week and finished as the TE2.

Year to Date TE1s

te2 1

Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert have now each missed multiple games, yet remain among the top half of the TE1 group. That says a lot about the state of the position. Pat Freiermuth continues to play well since the Chase Claypool trade and he now holds down the TE4 spot. Other risers include Taysom Hill, Cole Kmet, and Gerald Everett, while Hayden Hurst, Juwan Johnson, and David Njoku are sliding down the ranks.

Most TE1 Games Allowed

te4 1

The Falcons and Seahawks have been the worst offenders, or maybe that’s worst defenders, when it comes to allowing TE1 performances. Each team has given up nine TE1 games so far. The Falcons have the week off to figure things out, while Seattle faces the dynamic duo of Ian Thomas and Tommy Tremble. Let’s keep looking.

The Cardinals are actually the team allowing the most fantasy points to the position, nearly 19 points per game. That could be good news for Hunter Henry, who has muddled through a quiet season for the Patriots. Miami (vs. Everett), Tampa Bay (vs. George Kittle), and Detroit (vs. TJ Hockenson) are other teams offering nice matchups to opposing tight ends this week.

The Bears, Cowboys, and Commanders have proven to be teams to avoid when focused on the tight end position. With both Chicago and Washington on bye, Dallas is the team to focus on here. They face the tight end by committee of the Houston Texans. It has not been clear which tight end to use for Houston all season and this week, each of them should be avoided. Other matchups to steer clear of include San Francisco (vs. Otton), Buffalo (vs. Tyler Conklin), and Philadelphia (vs. Daniel Bellinger.)

Finally, here is the chart summarizing how teams have fared against each position. I’ve also included the schedule for this week for reference.
