Jeff Mueller

My name is Jeff Mueller, a Doctor of Physical Therapy, and I am here to help guide you through these weekly injuries and provide (hopefully) helpful insight into how bad the injury is and what the expected timeline for recovery is for your key player. The weekly injury roundup will be posted on Wednesdays to discuss injuries that just occurred. I would also encourage you to tune in to the DLF YouTube channel (make sure to subscribe!) to tune in to helpful content throughout the week.

Bye Weeks

  • Week 11: JAC, MIA, SEA, TB
  • Week 13: ARI, CAR
  • Week 14: ATL, CHI, GB, IND, NO, WAS

Josh Allen, QB BUF

Injury: Right Elbow, UCL

Return to Play:

Fantasy Impact: Allen played in week ten and had no reported setbacks. Truly remarkable. His velocity appeared to be less than typical, but was still fitting throws into tight windows and wasn’t noticeably grimacing. He should be good to go for week 11.

Kyler Murray, QB ARI

Injury: Hamstring

Return to Play: Week 11

Fantasy Impact: Murray was a game-time decision, so I do believe he will be able to return this week.

Carson Wentz, QB WAS

Injury: Finger

Return to Play: Week 11-Never

Fantasy Impact: Wentz is eligible to come off IR and a report surfaced that Washington plans to allow him to regain his starting job, but let’s all collectively hope that they keep Taylor Heinicke as the starter for the sake of Terry McLaurin and every other fantasy hopes that we have from this team.

Ezekiel Elliott, RB DAL

Injury: Right Knee, PCL Sprain

Return to Play: Week 11

Fantasy Impact: Elliott was reportedly close to returning last week, so I do think he will be able to return this week. He was a true game-time decision last week.

Najee Harris, RB PIT

Injury: Knee Discomfort

Return to Play: Week 11-12

Fantasy Impact: Harris is reportedly dealing with knee discomfort after running for 99 yards, though coach Mike Tomlin has stated that he doesn’t expect it to keep Najee from playing. Continue to stash Jaylen Warren.

Leonard Fournette, RB TB

Injury: Left Hip Pointer

Return to Play: Week 12-13

Fantasy Impact: TB is on bye this week and Fournette is expected to be able to play week 12, though a report recently surfaced that the team may consider keeping rookie Rachaad White in a prominent role. White should be a must-add or acquire.

Gus Edwards, RB BAL

Injury: Hamstring

Return to Play: Week 11-12

Fantasy Impact: Edwards likely returns for week 11, most likely as the starter. JK Dobbins remains a few weeks away from returning.

Khalil Herbert, RB CHI

Injury: Hip

Return to Play: Placed on IR

Fantasy Impact: Herbert’s promising year may be over, as he has been placed on IR. He is expected to miss at least four games, but given the team’s record plus hip injuries typically take a while to return, be prepared for his season to be over. Buy low in Dynasty.

Cooper Kupp, WR LAR

Injury: High Ankle, Tightrope Surgery

Return to Play: Placed on IR, Week 15-17, or season-ending.

Fantasy Impact: Given Kupp’s work ethic and the typical good outcomes from a tightrope procedure, I do believe he will have a chance to return for week 15 off IR. The risk here is, obviously if he isn’t healthy or ready then he won’t return, but also the Rams are likely to be 4-9 by week 15, so they could elect to shut him down for the season. I think there’s a chance he returns for the fantasy playoffs, but time will tell.

Jerry Jeudy, WR DEN

Injury: Left Ankle

Return to Play: TBD

Fantasy Impact: Jeudy reportedly avoided a fracture or Achilles injury, as he deals with an injury to a muscle in the back of his ankle. My guess here is an injury to the peroneus tendon, possibly a subluxation, but this is speculation on my part. He seemed to grab lower on his ankle than what would indicate a calf strain, plus the mechanism did not fit a calf strain or Achilles. He’s likely to miss several weeks though.

Jameson Williams, WR DET

Injury: ACL

Return to Play: Thanksgiving game or after

Fantasy Impact: I keep getting questions about when Jameson Williams might return from IR. I think we could see him play after the Thanksgiving game.

Mike Williams, WR LAC

Injury: High Ankle Sprain

Return to Play: Week 11-13

Fantasy Impact: It sounds like Williams may have a chance to practice and potentially return this week. Timeline-wise, I won’t be surprised if he needs another week or two, but we’ll have to see his practice status.

Ja’Marr Chase, WR CIN

Injury: Hip Fracture

Return to Play: Week 12-14

Fantasy Impact: Chase, on the other hand, won’t practice this week. Reportedly, he is still using crutches and isn’t quite ready, so I do believe he’s another two-three weeks away. They’ll want to make sure the fracture has healed properly and fully.

Mecole Hardman, WR KC

Injury: Abdomen

Return to Play: Week 11 or TBD

Fantasy Impact: Hardman may have a chance to return soon, however if this winds up being a sports hernia that he can’t play through, he may need to get surgery or be shut down for longer.

JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR KC

Injury: Concussion

Return to Play: TBD

Fantasy Impact: Smith-Schuster is in concussion protocol and will need to clear all steps in order to return for week 11.

Marquise Brown, WR ARI

Injury: Foot Fracture

Return to Play: Week 11-14

Fantasy Impact: Brown is reportedly close to returning, with the latest return expected to be by the team’s bye week. He’ll be back soon.

Dallas Goedert, TE PHI

Injury: Left Shoulder

Return to Play: Week 13-15

Fantasy Impact: Goedert will reportedly miss several weeks due to a left shoulder injury. The team doesn’t plan on placing him on IR just yet. My guess here is that it is either a high-grade AC sprain, or potentially involving the labrum or rotator cuff. Keep an eye out for his status.

Mark Andrews, TE BAL

Injury: Knee/Ankle/Shoulder

Return to Play: Week 11

Fantasy Impact: My gut says Andrews returns post-bye for week 11, and John Harbaugh seemed to indicate this is the team’s plan as well.

David Njoku, TE CLE

Injury: High Ankle Sprain

Return to Play: Week 11-12

Fantasy Impact: Njoku spent all of last week on the rehab field, but it sounds like he is close to returning. He may have a shot this week.

Zach Ertz, TE ARI

Injury: Left Knee

Return to Play: Season-Ending

Fantasy Impact: Ertz suffered a season-ending injury, though specifics have not been released still. He either suffered a torn MCL, or MCL plus ACL. This hurts given he was performing as a top TE.

Daniel Bellinger, TE NYG

Injury: Orbital Fracture

Return to Play: Week 11-14

Fantasy Impact: Bellinger is likely close to returning, most likely over the next few weeks here.
