Dynasty Fantasy Football Six Pack: Week Seven Storylines to Watch

Corey Spala

Week seven is upon us and the trade deadline is looming. Rumors are spreading and we can only wait to see what happens. Notable offensive and defensive players’ names are floating around. Here are six storylines to watch out for this upcoming week.

New Backfield

Let’s get this one out of the way. The major news coming into week seven is Christian McCaffrey finding a new home. The 49ers gave up a substantial haul to the Panthers to land their missing piece, well, outside of quarterback. This is not a rent-a-player as McCaffrey is under contract through the 2025 season.

This trade leaves the 49ers with limited draft picks but this does not matter to them as they chase the Super Bowl dream. I can only imagine what Kyle Shanahan is already trying to scheme out with McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel together in the backfield. This offense is filled with playmakers and will be fun to watch.

It will be important to monitor if McCaffrey will be able to suit up with only two days to learn the playbook.

Elijah No Moore

Elijah Moore reportedly requested a trade from the Jets. He is not thrilled with his recent usage. This was the notable reason why he is frustrated despite their winning record of 4-2. Moore is an extremely talented and dynamic player with the ball in his hands.

He currently is fifth in targets, fifth in yards, and has yet to find the end zone. It seems the Jets are playing him in a role that is not best suited for him while featuring a balanced offense. Head coach Robert Saleh did not like the antics and Moore won’t even suit up this upcoming Sunday.

A talented wide receiver on a rookie contract may be hard to trade. This will be a situation to monitor moving forward for the fantasy season, but Moore makes a great trade target for dynasty.

Justin Fields Looking Up

The Bears have been struggling but the silver lining is Fields has seen an increase in fantasy points over the last three weeks. This is also a stretch where he has thrown 20+ times, but his rushing upside helps his fantasy production.

We should not be surprised that Fields and the Bears are struggling when they have a bottom-tier offense. Leading up to the regular season, it was stated the Bears did not do enough for Fields. Fast forward and we are seeing the results should not surprise us, nor should this be used against Fields.

Jump on any Fields trades if your league mate is on their toes.

Patriots Quarterback Dilemma?

Bailey Zappe has down a great job managing this offense and putting the Patriots in a position to win. Bill Belichick does a better job to scheme to his players’ strengths. It is reported Mac Jones will be the starter when healthy. The question now is: does this mean when Zappe plays badly enough to put Jones back in? Just a working theory sparking controversy.

Zappe has completed 73% of his passes for four touchdowns and one interception. I do believe Jones is their guy, but this thought has to be present, right? The Patriots selected Zappe over Sam Howell. This could potentially be so there was less of a threat to Jones.

But now…

Giant(s) Season

The New York Giants are now 5-1 and have multiple storylines to pay attention to. Daniel Jones is playing for a contract, Saquon Barkley is returning to form, and two offensive rookies are emerging. It is always important to note the new coaching staff and their offensive draft picks – Wan’Dale Robinson and Daniel Bellinger both scored a touchdown in week six.

This offense is succeeding without a true number one option. This is likely due to coach Brian Daboll and the scheme he implements to find the best out of his players. Their defense is coming to full strength with their young talent and Kavon Thibodeaux and Azeez Ojulari as the pass rushers with additional pieces like Dexter Lawrence.

Moving on from the defense, this is an interesting zone we are living in with the Giants. The aforementioned contract on Jones makes him an intriguing dynasty asset. Has he played well enough to warrant an extension? If not, does he find a job elsewhere? He has only turned the ball over four times, and once over the last three weeks.

Investing in this team may be beneficial for any rebuilding teams; specifically for Robinson and Bellinger. I may kick the tires on Jones if my team is suited to take on the risk.

Trades!

The trade deadline is approaching and has notable dynasty assets rumored to be on the block. You probably know a DJ Moore truther who wants him traded, some reports say the Panthers view him as a foundational piece. However, a recent report (10/21) is saying he will be traded before the deadline. Here is a list of names I have seen on Twitter rumored to be traded:

These are not blockbusters but still could be enough to sway value. Even Mason Rudolph is rumored! Who knows if Elijah Moore will be traded, but he would be the most notable. The trade deadline is 11/1/2022 at 4 p.m. Eastern. There might not be much action until next week but it is important to be in the loop.

Discussion

Heading into week seven, the development of players and usage is evident. Depending if your league has one, your trade deadline is approaching too. The common theme of these Six Packs seems to surround always being on your toes. Be ready to adjust to any NFL news and apply to your dynasty leagues.

We see NFL teams go all in on trades and if you are a contender maybe you should too. The Panthers are rebuilding, so if you have a bad team, you should too. Storylines are important to follow, but I would like to imagine we all have a keen sense of these.

Happy trading. Cheers to week seven.
