The Ask DLF Weekly Rundown

Tyler Justin Karp

We do a weekly Ask DLF show every Tuesday at 9 PM Eastern on DLF’s YouTube Channel. Every week, we answer live dynasty questions and love doing it, especially with how interactive the live chat is. Of course, make sure to like the video and subscribe to the channel so you can be a part of this experience in the future.

However, the chat has become so active that we rarely actually answer all the questions in full detail. Still, we don’t want to let the people down, especially those who tuned into the live show. Therefore, we decided to do this article series, where we will provide written answers to some of the lengthier questions or the ones where we had to cut the answer short.

Let’s jump into this week’s first question!

Tyler Nelson – Best place to look aside from the DLF forum for a new dynasty league… startup or orphan?

I mainly wanted to include this question to highlight the DLF forum, which is a great place to find new dynasty leagues and just chat about dynasty. I participated in that forum long before I was a dynasty analyst, and some of the users there really helped me learn about the dynasty format. Either way, it’s a great place that doesn’t get enough attention.

Indo2201 – been having a hard time selling Cooper Kupp, what’s a realistic return? Been trying for mid to late first in 22+23 first and a 23 second.

I understand why Kupp is a difficult player to move. He had a historic 2021 season, putting up 145 receptions, 1,947 yards, and 16 touchdowns. However, he turns 29 years old in June, making him an older wide receiver past his dynasty value peak. Plus, his massive breakout year occurred at 28, later along the age curve.

According to the DLF Trade Analyzer, Kupp carries similar value in a 1QB dynasty league to the 1.04 and a 2023 first-rounder.

But I’m not sure you can even get this type of return for Kupp. Even though everybody likes his 2022 outlook, dynasty managers are rarely willing to pay up for this type of asset. Instead, I might suggest pivoting to a young wide receiver like Jaylen Waddle or DK Metcalf, both of whom lost some value recently. If you could get either of those players with a second-round pick for Kupp, that’s a more likely achievable return and will still help you rebuild.

Rad5577 – Are you getting worried about Trey Lance‘s development with the 49ers reluctance to trade Jimmy Garoppolo?

Right now, Garoppolo remains on the 49ers, as they’ve struggled to trade him throughout the off-season. It’s unclear exactly why the deal hasn’t occurred yet. The 49ers may be asking for too much compensation, other teams don’t want to pay Garoppolo’s high salary, or Garoppolo’s shoulder injury issues have stalled a deal. Whatever the reason, he remains on the 49ers, potentially delaying Lance’s opportunity to start.

Honestly, I believe that Lance will start week one no matter what, even if it means the 49ers have to cut Garoppolo for nothing. They gave up three first-round picks to select Lance, and top-three drafted quarterbacks simply don’t sit for multiple years in today’s NFL. If this situation still hasn’t been resolved by July or August, I’ll revisit the possibility that Garoppolo opens the season on the 49ers. But for now, that still seems like a remote outcome to me.

Deede Mattivello – Hey guys, with Chase Edmonds going to Miami, do you see Eno Benjamin taking over his snap share and finishing as a high end flex?

I wanted to bury this question once and for all, especially after the last time I got asked about Benjamin on Twitter.

Benjamin has no dynasty value whatsoever, as his career statistics are essentially nonexistent.

In two NFL seasons, he’s managed to dress for nine of a possible 33 games, recording 34 carries for 118 yards and a touchdown with six receptions for 42 yards. The Cardinals will almost certainly draft someone in the 2022 NFL Draft as James Conner’s backup, but even if they don’t, someone else will play ahead of Benjamin.

Gurminder Minhas – What’s Matt Ryan worth in a 12-team superflex, start eight?

I included Ryan in the article to illustrate a player with a wide gap between his buying and selling price. If selling Ryan, I would need the 2.03 or earlier, even higher than his DLF Trade Analyzer value.

Quarterbacks hold significant value in superflex leagues due to their scarcity, and Ryan is now in a better situation on the Colts than he was in Atlanta. Additionally, the Colts guaranteed the rest of Ryan’s contract, making it likely that he’s their quarterback for both 2022 and 2023.

However, just because Ryan holds value doesn’t mean I want him on my dynasty team. I wouldn’t pay any second-rounder to acquire him simply because I have zero interest in a mediocre quarterback who’s about to turn 37 in May.

As you can see, he hasn’t had a difference-making season since 2018, and he’s been on a constant downward trend since then, falling to QB18 in 2021. While the Colts are a better team than the Falcons, it’s not like they’re loaded with weapons, as they have nobody major beyond Michael Pittman and Jonathan Taylor. Therefore, I don’t expect Ryan to have a career resurgence in Indianapolis, and I wouldn’t voluntarily add him to my team.

Aaron Greig – What do you see being the realistic best case scenario for Green Bay’s WR situation come week 1?

Of course, there’s no way the Packers go into the 2022 season with their current receiving group, including only Allen Lazard, Amari Rodgers, and Randall Cobb as meaningful players. They also have Robert Tonyan and Josiah Deguara as receiving tight end options, but they don’t make up for their void at wide receiver.

That said, the Packers acquired an extra first and second-round pick in this year’s draft, leaving them with the 22nd, 28th, 53rd, and 59th overall picks. I will be stunned if the Packers don’t pick a wide receiver with one of those first-rounders, with possible options including Garrett Wilson, Treylon Burks, Drake London, Jameson Williams, Chris Olave, and George Pickens. In my opinion, the best-case scenario is that they sign a veteran like Jarvis Landry and acquire Burks in the first round. Those moves wouldn’t replace Davante Adams, but it would at least give them some competency at the position.
