Welcome to Dynasty Trade Month!

Ryan McDowell

March is already an exciting month for die-hard dynasty players. First, the NFL Scouting Combine takes place this week, followed up later this month with NFL free agency. Anytime the NFL newswire is active, dynasty managers are offered an opportunity to take advantage of the wide value swings of players impacted by these events.

That’s why we here at DLF are declaring March as DYNASTY TRADE MONTH!

We are challenging you to make multiple dynasty trades to shake up your roster. Of course, to be able to make those moves, you have to complete a team evaluation, along with a look at other teams in your league and their needs.

Over the next month, we will provide you with tons of content, both in written form and on YouTube, covering all you need to know about dynasty trades and specific player targets, regardless of the current state of your team.

All of this content will feature two of our most popular tools at DLF, the Trade Finder and Dynasty Trade Analyzer. If you’re not using each of these on a weekly basis, you’re really missing out.

In case you’ve missed it, our Trade Finder searches hundreds of actual dynasty leagues hosted on MyFantasyLeague.com for completed trades and then reports those back to you. You can adjust settings to find leagues that are similar to yours and then get to work. Are you looking to sell Dalvin Cook before it’s too late? Checking out the recent completed trades might be enough for you to change your mind.

The Dynasty Trade Analyzer does it all! Sync your league and begin crafting trade offers for each team in your league. Here’s a possibility in one of my leagues.

As you are sending out those offers, here are some general tips to remember to ensure a successful dynasty trading experience for all involved.

1. Conduct a team analysis

I mentioned this one earlier but it is incredibly important to have a clear understanding of your own goals before you begin sending out offers.

2. Ignore starting lineup concerns

Remember, this is only March. You don’t need to submit a starting lineup for approximately 192 days, but who’s counting? Anyway, don’t make a trade just because you see a weakness at your RB2 spot or starting tight end. These are obviously things to consider in your team evaluation but a lot will change in the next six months.

3. Put yourself in their shoes

Don’t send an offer that doesn’t make sense for the other team involved. Take a look at their team and consider if the offer you are making also helps their cause, whether they are competing for a title or ‘productively struggling’.

4. Timing matters

If you have a specific trade target, consider the best time to make an offer for that player. The combine and free agency will create major shifts in value. Veterans are at their cheapest price point right now while rookie picks will continue to gain value.

5. Open lines of communication

Hopefully, you’ve already done this in all leagues but if not, simply begin communicating with your league-mates. If every conversation is about a trade offer, you might not have the success you are hoping for. This also means identifying the best form of communication. Options are endless in these times and knowing if one foe prefers Slack to email or a text instead of a Twitter DM could be the difference in eventually getting a deal done.

Finally, as part of Dynasty Trade Month, we want to hear from you. If you are able to pull off a trade in your dynasty league, share the details with us in a comment below. We’ll be analyzing some of these trades in upcoming articles as well as on some podcasts and Youtube streams. It’s a great time to make a dynasty trade!
