I feel like you’re making a lot of assumptions about the Jags backfield and in general so much is up in the air with this organization. They invested heavily in ETN, yes injured, but I am not sure that even with J Rob’s performance that they weren’t going to give ETN more than a just a third down back role next year. Maybe I am believing too much in the health of ETN, but it seems silly to me for the Jags to target the top rb free agents next year. I think another Carlos Hyde or 6th/7th round back type would suffice.
I wouldn’t consider the majority of the backs he listed as top rb’s due to age, past injuries and general lack of production and they aren’t likely to garner very big or long term contracts. Just the type of short term veteran insurance they need. Much like what Baltimore did this year.
Top RB free agents is what I said and it seems like OP was targeting the best of those rb free agents, which is what I am disagreeing with given the upside of ETN and the capital used on him. I completely understand that the free agent backs listed are not top RBs. He also suggested they would draft a top 3-4 ish rb prospect which would likely be at least 4th round draft capital. Both of these strategies by the Jags would be much different than what the Ravens did this year. I think it is more feasible that hey pick an rb option from the bottom of the available rb list and/or draft an rb in the 6/7th round.
Let’s see here. A.Kamara 215 lbs. D.Cook 210 lbs. T.Etienne 215 lbs. Although Etienne may not possess the quick area elusiveness of Cook and Alvin, he understands angles maybe even better than both. Etienne is also faster than both. With or without J.Rob, the kid will be much more than a 3rd down back. Here’s hoping Jax hires a competent HC.
