20/20 Interview with Jaron Foster

The DLF Team

This week, senior writer and forum administrator, Jaron Foster, took some time to answer some questions so you could get to know him better. Enjoy!

Where are you from?

Vermont, but I have also lived in New Hampshire and Ireland.

What do you do for your regular job?

My official title is “Compliance and Report Analyst”, but it is a mix of project management and database development.

What is the worst job you’ve ever had?

Immediately after graduating from college, I briefly worked in a water bottling plant. Zero out of ten stars, do not recommend. I did learn that the same water is used for every brand, the bottles are just changed every few hours.

What is the best job you’ve ever had?

In my professional career, my current job is the best I’ve had. When I was in college, I really enjoyed my job tutoring international students.

What do you consider your dream job?

If you’re reading this, you’re probably as interested in fantasy sports as I am. Chances are that we also would both love to make this a career.

How long have you been in the industry?

Since I got my break with DLF (see below).

How did you get your break into fantasy football?

In the summer of 2012, DLF held a writing contest to find new writers. I was lucky to be one of six selected to join DLF in September. Eric Hardter was another of the winners.

What tool do you use the most on DLF?

It may not exactly qualify, but as Forum Administrator I spend more time in the forum than on the main site. For DLF tools, however, the Dynasty Trade Analyzer is usually my main starting point to gauge value for a trade offer (whether I’m sending or receiving one).

What tool do you use most outside of DLF?

4for4. Their redraft content is second to none.

Who was the best sleeper you pegged that broke out?

I was in very early on Keenan Allen, particularly as he fell in the NFL and dynasty drafts.

Who was your biggest whiff?

I was 100% in on Todd Gurley, even taking him early in the first round of a startup when I rarely have taken RBs that early. I have had Gurley far too long in far too many places.

What is the worst trade you have made?

These bad trades we have made are ingrained in our memories for a lot longer than the good ones. 4 years ago I traded Tyler Lockett for Theo Riddick, which somehow made sense at the time with a win-now team.

Who is your favorite underfollowed Twitter account?

Aside from my brothers and sisters with DLF, I highly recommend giving the guys at RSO a follow. Start with @RealitySportsOn.

Who is your favorite NFL team?

As a New Englander, I’m a Patriots fan

Who is your favorite college football team?

Aside from devy research, I don’t follow college football very closely. A couple of my cousins played on the Ohio State offensive line in the 90s, so I guess that’s my unofficial team.

Who was your favorite player growing up?

Barry Sanders and Reggie White

Who is your favorite player of all time?

Tedy Bruschi

What other hobbies or passions do you have outside of fantasy football?

I’m treasurer (among many hats) for the local youth baseball and football leagues, and I’m involved with my local historical society as well. On the fantasy sports side, I’m also a contributor for NBA DFS at hoop-ball.com.

What are some of your favorite movies?

The Shawshank Redemption, 300, Saving Private Ryan, Dazed & Confused

Who are some of your favorite bands?

Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, Metallica, Linkin Park
