NFC IDP Snap Counts: Week 13

Tom Kislingbury

Congratulations! Your team probably made it into the playoffs. Probably.

There’s no time to rest on your laurels though. Getting into the playoffs in a fantasy league is like those players who make the final 53-man roster – only to be cut a few days later for a slightly better special teamer. The season isn’t over until you pop the cork.

READ: AFC IDP Snap Counts: Week 13

Arizona Cardinals – 83 snaps

The Cardinals are fourth in defensive snaps this season. This was their third game over 80 snaps.

Isaiah Simmons (32) is still not a starter and should not be treated as one.

Deionte Thompson (1) is looking like a proper bust at safety. He’s firmly behind Budda Baker (80) and Chris Banjo (79).

Atlanta Falcons – 78 snaps

No massive changes this week for the Falcons. This defense is what it is for the rest of the year, until someone gets hurt.

Keanu Neal has had a disappointing year, hasn’t he? This happens to safeties all the time. It’s just a very high variance position.

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers enjoyed their bye week.

Chicago Bears – 68 snaps

Veteran lineman Akiem Hicks returned this week to play 54 snaps. He’s still playing well, but he’s never likely going to get back to being the pass rusher he was between 2016-2018.

Khalil Mack (55) went another game without a sack. It’s been four straight now. He’s still really good – but he’s not in that elite group of edges right now.

Dallas Cowboys

With a Tuesday night game, it’s too late for the Cowboys to fit into this column.

Detroit Lions – 69 snaps

DE Romeo Okwara (66) is having a season to remember. He had a sack here and another great day as a pass rusher. He already has ten more pressures than in any of his other four seasons – and he’s still just 25 years old.

Corners Desmond Trufant and Jeff Okudah both missed this game. Darryl Roberts (59) and Justin Coleman (52) stepped in.

DT Danny Shelton is out – his replacement was Kevin Strong (28).

Green Bay Packers – 62 snaps

There were no major personnel changes for the Packers this week. Rashan Gary (36) is playing significant snaps each and every week these days. He might step up nicely as a starter in 2021.

Los Angeles Rams – 64 snaps

LB Micah Kiser missed another game leaving Troy Reeder (58) to deputize again – and rack up another excellent day as an IDP. You’re way too smart to think he’s playing well. His tackles are a combination of being targeted and the efficiency that comes from being the only full-time LB in a scheme like this.

Edge Leonard Floyd used all his magic up in his two big games this season. He tends to do that. He’s had just three pressures in his past three games.

Minnesota Vikings – 71 snaps

Cameron Dantzler (71) played his first game as an every-down corner since week six and he was excellent. He’s had a much better rookie season than Jeff Gladney (47) but 2020 is a black swan for rookies. There’s no reason Gladney isn’t better in 2020.

Star LB Eric Kendricks missed the game, so Todd Davis played all 71 snaps next to Eric Wilson. Both were productive – but remember this was an overtime game against the Jaguars.

DE DJ Wonnum missed the game too. Eddie Yarbrough (23) filled his role.

New Orleans Saints – 67 snaps

The Saints played 24 more snaps than they did last week against the QB-less Broncos. So, everyone produced more.

The pass rushers in particular did well. Cameron Jordan (59) and Trey Hendrickson (46) were fantastic on the edge. Hendrickson really is significantly better than Marcus Davenport (who was out this week) at this stage.

DT Sheldon Rankins (45) also managed four pressures on his return from injury. His presence didn’t seem to hurt David Onyemata (48) as he also had four pressures.

LB Kwon Alexander (32) again played limited snaps. The scheme just does not call for two every-down LBs and Demario Davis (67) is The Man.

New York Giants – 72 snaps

The Giants played 23 more defensive snaps than last week. So, all production shot up.

True edge is a wasteland for this team. Kyler Fackrell missed the game which meant Jabaal Sheard (41) and Niko Lalos (26) manned the spot. Spot singular because of course, the Giants have been using Leonard Williams (50) out on the other side. That role has really suited him, and he had another sack here.

Philadelphia Eagles – 61 snaps

CB Darius Slay took a knock and played just 40 snaps. Michael Jacquet stepped in for him.

Alex Singleton (61) is firmly solidified as the only startable IDP LB here. He’s a clear weekly top 36 options right now.

Seattle Seahawks – 56 snaps

This was comfortably the lowest snap count of the Seahawks’ season as the Giants tried to limit Colt McCoy.

CB Tre Flowers missed the game. DJ Reed (56) played instead.

DE Carlos Dunlap (23) played the least he has for this team. He averaged 49 snaps in his first three games, then 38 last week. Now, just 23.

Rookie Jordyn Brooks played his most as a pro. He hit 43 snaps. Bobby Wagner (56) and KJ Wright (54) were still nearly every-down players but the Seahawks rolled out their three-LB base plan again, and it failed again.

San Francisco 49ers – 73 snaps

Cornerback has been a huge problem for the 49ers this season. It’s the sort of thing that kills defenses – but most fans never notice. They’ve had to use nine different corners so far and it was change again this week. Dontae Johnson (63) played his first serious snaps since week four. Jason Verrett (72) and Richard Sherman (72) were the others on the field with Ahkello Witherspoon (remember him?) playing two snaps.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers enjoyed their bye week.

Washington Football Team – 71 snaps

The defensive line is very established and stable on this team – and it shows. What’s a little strange is that Montez Sweat (45) is consistently playing less than Chase Young (63). Young will have his time – but Sweat is the better player right now.

Jon Bostic (57) had a big night with a pick at LB. Cole Holcomb (52) is playing almost as much at the moment – both are low-end but viable starters.

Thanks for reading and good luck in the playoffs.
