Dynasty Injury Report: Week 12

Bruce Matson

Just as injuries are apart of the NFL game, they are also very important to fantasy football. Knowing who is injured and how long they are projected to be on the shelf is very important. A player’s best ability is their availability and if they are not on the field then they are not generating fantasy points for our lineups.

Analyzing the injuries from the previous week can help dynasty gamers gain a leg-up on their competition. The knowledge gained from studying the injury report will allow fantasy players to make the appropriate transactions for their fantasy teams.

With that being said, let’s dig into the injury report from week 12.

QUARTERBACK

Daniel Jones, NYG

Jones had to exit the game early on Sunday due to enduring a hamstring injury. Colt McCoy took over the reins, completing six of his ten passes for 31 yards. It appears that Jones’ hamstring injury will cause him to miss some time. We should expect him to be out of our fantasy lineups for at least a couple of weeks.

This injury shouldn’t affect his dynasty value. His performance throughout the season is what’s going to drive his price in the off-season. He’s still a young quarterback who seems to have a long leash with the franchise, so either way, there could be a buying opportunity for dynasty managers who are interested in acquiring Jones. On the contrary, doubters should stray far away from unless his price tag drops to a point that it’s worth taking on the risk.

Teddy Bridgewater, CAR

Bridgewater suffered an arm injury during the Panthers’ loss to the Minnesota Vikings. The injury doesn’t seem to be serious. The team is projecting him to ready to play against the Denver Broncos after their week 13 bye.

RUNNING BACK

Phillip Lindsay, DEN

After rushing nine times for 20 yards, Lindsay left the game early with a knee injury. He did not return to the field after tweaking his knee. Fantasy managers should be prepared to be without him for week 13. Reports have stated that this is not a serious injury and he should be back ready to go sooner than later.

Dalvin Cook, MIN

Cook was helped off the field in the third quarter of Sunday’s game. He was able to re-enter the game later in the third quarter. All signs are pointing to him being able to play this week.

Since he was able to return to the game, he should be able to play at nearly full health with a little rest and recovery. It is still highly encouraged that fantasy managers monitor his status throughout the week just in case he experiences an issue.

Josh Jacobs, LV

In a blowout loss to the Atlanta Falcons, Jacobs sprained his ankle which caused him to prematurely exit the game. Preliminary reports on Monday suggested that his ankle isn’t as bad as it appeared when the injury initially happened. The severity of the sprain will indicate how much time he will need off.

Typically, players are more than likely to come back sooner from a low ankle sprain compared to a high ankle sprain. Jacobs, himself, has stated that he is confident that he will be able to play against the Jets in week 13. Fantasy managers will need to be extra cautious and just watch the practice reports throughout the week.

Jacobs should remain one of the top running backs in dynasty. This isn’t a long-term issue even though it might feel that way since we are in the home stretch to the fantasy football season. Buying low is more of a pipedream than a realistic option. His dynasty managers are not going to trade him away at a discount.

WIDE RECEIVER

DJ Moore, CAR

Moore fell to the ground with a non-contact ankle injury during Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. X-rays have shown that he hasn’t broken his ankle. We are still waiting for more information regarding the severity of the injury. His status is up in the air. He could be back on the field within a couple of weeks. We could also see him get sent to the injured reserve list.

Julio Jones, ATL

Jones didn’t play in week 12 due to reaggravating his hamstring. There are reports that he might return to play the Saints in week 13. He’s at the tender age of 31 and these injuries tend to last a little longer compared to younger players. Depending on the severity, if he comes back to play, he could experience another setback.

Jones will be a liability in the fantasy playoffs. Fantasy managers will not be able to start him with confidence because they do not know what they are going to get. He has the ability to turn it on and take over a game. If he’s close to full health and is in the right matchup, he could be the player who could lead to you winning your fantasy matchup.

It’s not a secret that his long-term player value is on the decline. We are accustomed to seeing wide receivers who are 30 years old or older fading in dynasty value. At his age injuries are more likely to happen. Dynasty gamers will need to be aware of how much longer he’s going to be a usable fantasy asset.

TIGHT END

We didn’t see any devastating injuries happen at the tight end position in week 12. Just be mindful that the Philadelphia Eagles are about to activate Zach Ertz from the injured reserve list and there’s a high probability he will be back for the fantasy playoffs.
