Dynasty Waiver Wire: Week 13

Addison Hayes

Is it just me, or were there a lot of INSANE stat lines this week? And I don’t mean the Broncos only having 13 passing yards as a team (sorry Broncos fans). Honestly, there has to be someone out there who played against all of Derrick Henry, Antonio Gibson, Tyreek Hill, and Will Fuller in one league. Those four players totaled almost 170 PPR points! Then imagine if that same team had Deshaun Watson or Patrick Mahomes! 200 points in five players! INSANE! You can probably tell I didn’t have a good intro for this week, but you’re not even reading this, I know.

In case you are reading this, there is one bit of information to know before you start reading names. New to this year’s series and the DLF site is player rostership percentages, courtesy of dynasty rosters from SafeLeagues and the great Scott Fish. Using that data, I developed an app to view rostership data from over 400 SafeLeagues dynasty leagues, all using the same format and scoring (2 PPR tight end premium). While this may not be entirely accurate for every individual league, it is very reflective of how managers view who is worthy or not of a roster spot. Now that that is covered, let’s dive into the waiver wire after Week 12!

Players to double-check availability and immediately add:

Rex Burkhead, RB NE

I was surprised to see Burkhead sitting at an 80% rostership percentage this week. I was unable to find his percentage last week before his injury, but I would imagine he was dropped in some leagues. It is very important you know that Burkhead is out for the rest of the season, so this is not a pickup for you to play in 2020. Instead, this is a stash for next year if you are in a league with him on waivers. Burkhead was the RB23 coming into this week, which includes a couple of dud games below five fantasy points. Bill Belichick seems to love this guy, so he will always have a role on this Patriots offense as a rusher and receiver.

Jeff Wilson Jr, RB SF

Playing as the RB2 for the Niners this week, Wilson nearly split carries with a returning Raheem Mostert. He should not be counted on in your lineup, but is worth a roster spot in case of injury. We know how much the Niners love to run the ball, and Wilson is only a few weeks removed from a 17-112-3 performance.

Ito Smith, RB ATL

This is gross, I know, but this is 2020 and this is what we do. In Todd Gurley’s absence, Smith and Brian Hill split carries 13 to 12, but it was Smith who gained more yards, caught four receptions, and found paydirt. I don’t think I can promise that Smith would be the better fantasy player next week if Gurley didn’t play, but he was this week and I have to write about him.

Andy Isabella, WR ARI

I am a huge fan of Andy Isabella and will always be here for his SZN. Isabella recorded a career-high six targets, going for 33 yards on four receptions. The entire Cardinals passing game struggled this week, but it was good to see Isabella fall behind only DeAndre Hopkins in targets with no Larry Fitzgerald. The main positive of stashing Isabella is the potential for Fitzgerald’s retirement in 2021, opening up more snaps and opportunities for Isabella as the surefire WR3 in the offense.

Collin Johnson, WR JAC

In a game without DJ Chark and Chris Conley, with Mike Glennon starting at quarterback, the Jaguars relied on Texas rookie Johnson as their primary receiver. Johnson totaled four receptions, 96 yards, and a touchdown on a team-high eight targets. Johnson has flashed before, including a 4-30-1 line against the Texans in October. He is a huge target (6’6”) for whoever is starting at QB for Jacksonville. On a team with largely disappointing receiving options for fantasy, Johnson could have an opportunity to break away as a weekly starter on this team with a new QB in 2021.

Olabisi Johnson, WR MIN and Chad Beebe, WR MIN

Both receivers had a fantastic opportunity to showcase their talents in a high passing volume game with no Adam Thielen. Both receivers were targeted seven times and caught all seven passes, with Johnson totaling 74 yards, and Beebe totaling 63 yards and the game-winning touchdown. Both are pretty irrelevant for fantasy when Thielen returns, but it was fun to see both in significant action. Johnson would be my first target on waivers, as he received more snaps when Thielen played.

Ian Thomas, TE CAR

Boy, I hope DJ Moore is ok. For those who missed it, Moore went up from a pass that was a little high and behind him in the end zone and landed awkwardly on his leg and immediately held his knee. Matt Rhule claims it’s an ankle injury, but I and many others have our doubts. If Moore ends up missing time, or the rest of the season, Ian Thomas could be in for an increased target share. Thomas had a good rookie season in 2018, spelling an injured Greg Olsen over the second half of the season, producing as a top-ten tight end from weeks 12-16 in 2018. We have yet to really see that production again since, but this could be the time if the Panthers are missing over seven targets per game in Moore. Carolina is on bye in Week 13, so you probably shouldn’t start him next week.
