Devy Stock Market

Nathan Powell

The fantasy football stock market is constantly fluctuating and it is always important for us to stay on top of player stocks going up and downs. In devy stock market, each week I cover the best and worst performances of the week and how they impact the value of these players in devy fantasy football leagues.

Daniels Dazzling Debut – JT Daniels, QB Georgia

Daniels was a five-star recruit and second-ranked pro-style quarterback per Rivals when he began his collegiate career at USC. He started as a true freshman and showed flashes with a pair of three-passing-touchdowns games. However, a knee injury ended his sophomore campaign and gave an opportunity to Kedon Slovis and Slovis secured the starting job for himself.

In the off-season, Daniels transferred to Georgia and last weekend, he was cleared to play against Mississippi State. He had a dominant debut, throwing for 401 yards and four passing touchdowns, along with a 73.7% completion percentage. With such a late start to his Georgia career, I think it is likely Daniels remains in college for another season and if he has more performances like he had last week, he will be back near the top of the devy quarterback conversation.

Personally, I’m more on the pessimistic end for Daniels, so if you can use him and an additional piece to acquire a different college quarterback like Spencer Rattler, Kedon Slovis or Jayden Daniels, that’s the type of move I’d be looking to make after a big performance against a poor Mississippi State team.

Eric The Gray – Eric Gray, RB Tennessee

It has not been a good season for the Tennessee Volunteers as they’ve lost their last five games, but Eric Gray has been a bright spot in the Volunteers’ backfield. The #7 all-purpose running back per Rivals in 2019, Gray had a huge performance toward the end of his freshman season with a 246 rushing-yard and three-touchdown performance against Vanderbilt.

Gray has built on that performance with four 100+ yard rushing performances in seven games this season including 173 rushing yards and a touchdown against Auburn last week. He has also been a big part of the passing game, catching at least three passes in five straight games, including an eight-catch, 54-receiving-yard performance against Georgia. Gray has been a workhorse averaging 27 touches per game in the last four games. He will be valued as one of the top running backs in devy fantasy football this off-season.

Hoosiers Heating Up – Michael Penix Jr, QB Indiana and Ty Fryfogle, WR Indiana

This Indiana pairing has quietly been one of the best quarterback/wide receiver duos in college football this season. Penix Jr had limited action as a redshirt freshman due to injury, but he played well in six games in 2019, with an AY/A of 8.8 and 12 total touchdowns. In 2020, Penix has at least three passing touchdowns in three of the last four games and has averaged 384 passing yards in the last three games. He is a quarterback to watch the rest of the season in deep superflex devy leagues.

Penix’s favorite target has been senior wideout Fryfogle. He has had a huge breakout in the last three games, averaging 8.33 catches for 153 yards and two touchdowns, including 218 receiving yards and three touchdowns against Ohio State last week. The 6’2” 214-pound wideout is a player to watch the rest of the season for Indiana as his senior surge could lead him to some nice draft capital in April.

Jefferson Jumping Back Into Devy Conversation – Jermar Jefferson, RB Oregon State

Jefferson was one of my favorite running backs in college football following the 2018 season with 1527 scrimmage yards with 5.8 yards per carry and 12 touchdowns as a true freshman. In 2019, he had a disappointing sophomore season, rushing for 685 yards with 4.8 yards per carry. In 2020, he is looking more like his freshman self, running all over the PAC-12 with 449 rushing yards in three games, eclipsing 120 yards rushing in each game, including 196 yards and a touchdown against California last week.

Jefferson is a candidate to head to the NFL in a weak running back class after the top three of Travis Etienne, Chuba Hubbard and Najee Harris. With continued big games, Jefferson could play his way into being a day two NFL draft pick, likely not something people saw as a possibility after a disappointing 2019 season.

Don’t Stop, D’Wayne – D’Wayne Eskridge, WR Western Michigan

Fifth-year seniors at non-Power five schools are usually an easy avoid when writing this article, but Eskridge has put up numbers that are impossible to avoid. Eskridge is averaging 152.33 receiving yards per game with 32.6 yards per catch and six trips to the end zone. His big plays in 2020 will put him on the radar for NFL teams on day three of the NFL draft.
