Dynasty Injury Report: Week Ten

Bruce Matson

We are inching our way to the fantasy playoffs. Week ten is in the books and every game is important going forward. A winning streak down the stretch could help some of those fringe fantasy teams make the postseason. Also, all it takes is an injury to a key player for a team to not make the playoffs.

Knowing the injury report can be crucial. It could inform you on who to pick up off the waiver wire. It can also give you a timeframe of when certain players will be available for your fantasy lineups.

With all that being said, let’s look at the injury report from week ten.

QUARTERBACK

Drew Brees, NO

The 41-year old quarterback has multiple rib fractures and a collapsed lung. It’s uncertain how much time he will miss. There’s a chance this injury could leak into the fantasy playoffs. Fantasy managers will need to be prepared to be without Brees for an extended period of time.

Jameis Winston will take over as the team’s starting quarterback. He will be a popular waiver wire add for the week. Winston could help fill the void if you are struggling for a replacement for Brees. Considering he has Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara to keep the offense going, Winston presents enough upside to help you win your fantasy matchups.

We have to start preparing for the future with Brees. Father time always wins and he’s not getting any younger. We could see him hang it up this off-season or possibly at the end of next season. The end is evidently near for Brees. The older you get the harder it is to come back from injuries.

Nick Foles, CHI

Foles was carted off with a leg/hip injury late in the fourth quarter of Monday night’s game. After further review from the medical staff, the injury isn’t as serious as it looked on the field and Foles’ status will be considered day-to-day.

Fantasy managers will need to keep tabs on his progress. The Bears are headed into the bye week which will give Foles some extra time to heal. If he’s able to come back he will be playing against the Green Bay Packers in week 12.

Matthew Stafford, DET

Stafford has been dealing with a thumb issue. After Sunday’s game, he mentioned his hand didn’t feel too hot when it came to gripping the football. On Monday, he took some tests and received an x-ray on his hands. The results came back negative. Fantasy managers should expect him to be in the lineup on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers, but he will be limited in practice throughout the week.

Teddy Bridgewater, CAR

Bridgewater left Sunday’s game early with a knee injury. After an MRI, it appears he didn’t endure any structural damage to his knee. Reports are stating his knee is currently swollen. Only time will tell when he will be able to make it back into the lineup.

XFL standout PJ Walker will get the opportunity to show off what he can do if Bridgewater is unable to play. He didn’t look good as a replacement on Sunday, completing two of his four pass attempts for 12 yards.

RUNNINGBACK

Travis Homer, SEA

Against the Rams in week ten, Homer had to leave the game early due to a hand injury. He was a limited participant for Monday’s practice. His status will be day-to-day. If he’s unable to play this week, then we will see a mixture of DeeJay Dallas and Alex Collins.

There’s also a chance that Carlos Hyde will be back from his hamstring injury. Chris Carson didn’t participate in Monday’s practice and unless his status changes, he will more than likely be on the shelf for another week.

WIDE RECEIVER

Tre’Quan Smith, NO

Smith took a shot to the head that caused him to leave the game early. He will need to go through the concussion protocol before he can play again. Michael Thomas is back into the fold. Fantasy managers are not leaning on Smith for consistent production.

John Brown, BUF

Brown tweaked his ankle in week ten against the Arizona Cardinals. The injury looked gruesome while watching it in real-time. His status is currently up in the air. Fantasy gamers should be prepared to not have in their lineups for the next couple of weeks. There’s a chance he could be back for the fantasy playoffs. At this point, We are just waiting for a more detailed report about his status.

Danny Amendola, DET

Amendola was escorted to the locker room after suffering a hip injury on Sunday. Fantasy managers will need to keep an eye on him since there isn’t much news about his situation. He is considered questionable for his week 11 game against the Carolina Panthers.

TIGHT END

Nick Boyle, BAL

Boyle was carted off the field Sunday night after suffering an injury that bent his leg backward. The knee injury will prematurely end his season. This is a big blow to the 27-year-old tight end as he was trying to carve out a larger role in the team’s offensive game plan.

Dynasty managers shouldn’t be too concerned about this injury since he wasn’t providing enough production to be fantasy-relevant. At this point, he needs to be left on waivers. He’s not in a prime spot to elevate his fantasy production. He’s also not considered a tremendous talent. Mark Andrews is going to be the team’s alpha tight end for a long time to come.
