Dynasty Injury Report: Week Eight

Bruce Matson

We are officially half-way through the season. The 2020 season will be notorious for the magnitude of devastating injures that impacted fantasy football rosters. Week eight had its share of injuries that will affect the fantasy landscape for the remainder of the season.

Knowing the injury report is very important because it indicates how players could be valued in the trade market. Players with season-ending injuries or at least long-term injuries might experience a reduction in value. Also, you want to look for the next man up on the roster for a player who could potentially fill a void for your fantasy team.

With everything being said, let’s take a look at some of the injuries from week eight.

QUARTERBACK

Jimmy Garoppolo, SF

Garoppolo aggravated his high ankle sprain and is expected to miss an extended period. He is projected to be out of the lineup around six weeks, but it could be longer if his issue requires surgery. This has been a tough season for his fantasy managers since he’s been shelved with injuries off and on throughout the year. Him missing multiple games will create a buying opportunity in dynasty.

Gardner Minshew, JAC

Minshew’s thumb injury will keep him out of the lineup on Sunday. Jake Luton will take his place. The Jaguars drafted him in the sixth round of this year’s draft. Last year, during his senior season, he passed for 2,714 yards and 28 touchdowns while only tossing three interceptions. This should be a short-lived experiment and we should see Minshew on the field sooner than later.

The thumb injury shouldn’t dent Minshew’s dynasty stock since it’s a short-term issue. What Jacksonville is planning to do in the draft is going to be a bigger concern.

RUNNING BACK

Myles Gaskin, MIA

Gaskin is expected to miss three games with a sprained MCL. This might have been one of the major reasons why the Dolphins acquired DeAndre Washington from the Kansas City Chiefs. The team also has Matt Brieda, Salvon Ahmed, and recently-benched Jordan Howard. Patrick Laird left Sunday’s game with an ankle injury and his status will also be in jeopardy going into week nine.

AJ Dillon and Jamaal Williams, GB

Both players were placed on the Covid-19 reserve list. They will not be available for the Thursday night game. This is a short-term issue and will not affect their dynasty value. However, by the time they make through Covid-19 protocols, Aaron Jones will be back on the field.

Darrell Henderson, LAR

After suffering a thigh injury in week eight, Henderson is on track to return after the bye week. This was just a blip on the radar, and everything should be back to normal sooner than later. This means the Rams’ backfield will continue to be a three-man timeshare.

Tevin Coleman, SF

Injuries have been a major problem for Coleman this season. He has played in just three games, registering 13.40 PPR fantasy points. Unfortunately, he will not get the opportunity to increase that total since he’s going to be out of this week’s game with a knee injury.

Coleman’s fantasy value is lackluster, to say the least. Injuries have always been baked into his price tag. It looks like the odds are stacked against him bouncing back and being a contributor to our fantasy teams.

JaMycal Hasty will be the team’s lead back. He should be stashed away on a lot of taxi squads. Fantasy managers need to double-check waivers just in case he’s available.

WIDE RECEIVER

TY Hilton, IND

After catching two passes for nine yards, Hilton exited the game with a groin injury. He will be under observation for the week to see if he will be able to play. This is a sign letting us know the injury isn’t severe and this shouldn’t be a long-term issue.

Hilton’s age is a concern. Father time is not on his side. The injury issues are an indication that his days in the league are coming to an end. It’s almost impossible to sell him for much value in dynasty. Fantasy gamers value age and long-term player value and his production from a few years ago are long gone.

Kenny Golladay, DET

Golladay is unlikely to play in week nine because of a hip injury he suffered in week eight. He is considered week to week. The injury should not affect his dynasty value since he will be back to playing again within a few weeks.

TIGHT END

George Kittle, SF

Kittle is headed to the injured reserve list and will be out for eight weeks with a broken bone in his foot. His fantasy football season is over. Fantasy managers will have to figure out how to move on without him for the remainder of the season.

Fantasy gamers could potentially take advantage of a buying opportunity for Kittle. Since he’s out of our fantasy line ups for the remainder of the season he’s going to fall in value. This could allow fantasy managers to be able to buy him at a discount off the trade market.
