20/20 Interview with Shane Manila
This week, DLF writer and wild man Shane Manila took some time with us so you could get to know him a little better. Learn about one of the funniest members of the team that is DLF. Enjoy!
Where are you from?
Philadelphia. Haven’t you ever heard me speak? I feel like you would know if you had ever heard me speak.
What do you do for your regular job?
I am a Director for a Housing Authority. It’s glamorous, I know.
What is the worst job you have ever had?
I’ve only had a few actual jobs in my adult life, so I’ll just use one from my childhood. When me and my friends were around 10 years old we used to carry groceries to people’s cars at the supermarket. This is way before the days when you could be trusted to take your shopping cart with you to the supermarket parking log.
What is the best job you have ever had?
I worked at a pool for a couple of summers. “Worked” being used very loosely. Mostly I just got a tan and talked to girls.
What do you consider your dream job?
Can I say “fantasy football analyst”? Is that to cliché? Just in case I do have a backup. Record store owner. I’ll age myself here but if you’ve ever seen “Empire Records” or “High Fidelity”, that was always the dream for me. Listen to music and talk about music all day at work? Sign me up.
How long have you been in the industry?
About four or five years now.
How did you get your break into fantasy football?
Just responded to a Tweet from someone looking for writers. I thought to myself, “Hey I love fantasy football and I know how to spell, I can do this”.
What tool do you use the most on DLF?
Dynasty Trade Finder. I am an absolute trade addict so I’m always looking to see how the rest of the community is handling specific players and if there are any angles I can take advantage of.
What tool do you use the most outside of DLF?
Is Pro-Football-Reference a tool? I basically live on Pro-Football-Reference. Just so much information is available at your fingertips.
Who was the best sleeper you pegged that broke out?
I want to say Ronald Jones just to annoy people. So, I’m going to say Ronald Jones.
Who was your biggest whiff?
It’s so hard to find just one. I attempt to grab players before they truly breakout and their value spikes so I tend to go hard after those guys. Right now, ranking JuJu Smith-Schuster as my dynasty WR1 is looking highly, highly suspect.
What is the worst trade you have made?
I once traded the 1.01 in a rookie draft, which turned out to be Ezekiel Elliott, multiple rookie picks which turned into Laquon Treadwell and Corey Coleman. Just writing that hurts so bad.
Who is your favorite underfollowed Twitter account?
@Thembower85, he’s a lot like me except with more couth and class.
Who is your favorite NFL team?
Still in the process of finding a new favorite team, but I’m enjoying just rooting for fantasy right now.
Who is your favorite college football team?
I don’t really have one, I tend to root for whoever the underdog is.
Who was your favorite player growing up?
Randall Cunningham
Who is your favorite player of all time?
Brian Dawkins. My man just pulsed with energy and played every second like his life depended on it.
What other hobbies or passions do you have outside of fantasy football?
Music, movies, reading, walking, just trying to find my peace.
What are some of your favorite movies?
True Romance, High Fidelity, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
Who are some of your favorite bands?
City and Colour, Radiohead, The Weeknd, Weezer, Drake
