Devy Stock Market

Nathan Powell

The fantasy football stock market is constantly fluctuating and it is always important for us to stay on top of player stocks going up and downs. In devy stock market, each week I cover the best and worst performances of the week and how they impact the value of these players in devy fantasy football leagues.

Mac Jones, QB Alabama

It’s the chicken or the egg: the quarterback or the wide receivers?

Many expected Jones to be usurped by five-star true freshman Bryce Young by now, but he has been prolific in the start to the season for Alabama and he had his most impressive performance of the season against Georgia. Jones showed some promise in relief of Tua Tagovailoa in 2019 with an 11.7 AY/A with 14 touchdowns. In 2020, Jones has had three straight 400-passing-yard performances including 417 yards and four touchdowns against Georgia.

With Jones and his 14.5 AY/A, it’s safe to say that he has staved off the threat of the freshman and he’s a legitimate NFL prospect. With his success thus far this season, he is likely to capitalize on the big season by declaring for the NFL Draft. Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields and Trey Lance are expected to be the first three quarterbacks off the board, but the QB4 spot is very much up for grabs and if Jones plays as well as he has early on in the season, he is capable of being drafted there, and possibly even QB3 over Lance. Jones is unowned outside of deeper devy leagues and he will be a high pick in rookie drafts in devy leagues.

Humming Hokies – Hendon Hooker, QB Virginia Tech and Khalil Herbert, RB Virginia Tech and

The Virginia Tech running game was impressive against Boston College last week, and their backfield pairing has NFL potential.

Hooker is a 6’4” 228-pound quarterback who teams are going to have a hard time stopping through the air and the ground. He had success in limited work in 2019, with a 10.6 AY/A and eight games of 12 or more pass attempts, rushing for at least 40 yards in six of those eight games. Hooker had the biggest rushing game of his career against Boston College with 18 carries for 164 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He has played well in the passing game in 2020 with an 11.0 AY/A through his first two games of the season.

Having a dual-threat quarterback has been beneficial for Herbert. He is more likely the guy you’ll want on your dynasty rosters, even though he is a fifth-year senior. Herbert averaged 8.9 yards per carry with 384 rushing yards in four games with Kansas in 2019. He has built on his 2019 success with 9.6 yards per carry and 593 rushing yards in four games. Herbert has the second-most rushing yards in college football this season and the 5’9” 205-pound back has the opportunity to be the rare exception to avoiding fifth-year seniors.

Revving Up Rodgers – Amari Rodgers, WR Clemson

Rodgers entered Clemson in 2017 as a highly-touted recruit in the middle of nearly every Clemson wide receiver making it to the NFL but has had middling numbers so far in his career, averaging 500 yards over the last two seasons. Through five games, Rodgers has already eclipsed his 2019 totals with 429 yards (426 in 2019) and five touchdowns (four in 2019).

The senior wideout had the biggest game of his career at Georgia Tech with six catches for 161 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Being Trevor Lawrence’s top target for the rest of the season, Rodgers has the opportunity to bolster his prospect profile, which will be necessary for the late breakout wide receiver. In older devy leagues, Rodgers is likely rostered from his freshman season. In newer devy leagues, Rodgers is likely not rostered and has the opportunity to be a high rookie draft pick in devy leagues as it’s not often a top recruit makes it to the rookie draft of devy leagues.

Javonte has Juice – Javonte Williams, RB North Carolina

Michael Carter has had a nice season for the Tar Heels with 478 rushing yards in four games, but he is a senior and junior back. Williams is the better NFL prospect. He has 602 total yards in four games, including nine catches for 200 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Williams has been very productive in the last two games, averaging 144 rushing yards, 61 receiving yards and four total touchdowns. Williams and Carter are likely NFL-bound after this season, but I think Williams and his abilities in the passing game are the better bet for being a day two NFL Draft pick.

Gabriel The Great – Dillon Gabriel, QB UCF

Gabriel could have his own weekly blurb in this article with how well he’s playing this season. He has officially entered draftable range in normal-sized (24-48 devys per year) superflex devy leagues.

He had 650 total yards and six touchdowns on the road at Memphis, his third time in four games with at least 400 passing yards and four touchdowns. Gabriel will continue to put up big numbers and will likely be the top-ranked non-power five quarterback next off-season.
