Dynasty Waiver Wire: Week Six

Bruce Matson

This has been a crazy year. Due to unprecedented circumstances, dynasty managers have to make some tough choices when it comes to fielding their weekly line up. By using the Rostership App which pulls the data from over 400 SafeLeagues dynasty leagues, we can now narrow down which players are more likely to be available on waivers.

The app narrows down the choices and provides a better indication of what’s available on waivers. I find this application very helpful if you’re in a lot of leagues and you need a baseline of which players to pick up off the waiver wire.

Andy Dalton, QB DAL

Dalton is an instant add from the waiver wire. Even if you don’t need another quarterback, I suggest picking him up if you have the roster space. As we all know, Dak Prescott left Sunday’s game with a devastating injury. Dalton will now be the starting quarterback for America’s Team for the rest of the season.

We shouldn’t expect Dalton to replicate Prescott’s production because they are two totally different players. He will have access to one of the best wide receiver corps in the league. If anything, he’s in a prime situation to deliver high-end fantasy results.

Jeff Smith, WR NYJ

The former UDFA from Boston College is carving out a major role in the Jets’ inefficient passing offense. In week five against the Arizona Cardinals, Smith reeled in three of his 11 targets for 23 yards. Even though he wasn’t able to make a splash in the box score, he still managed to siphon a large portion of the workload. If he continues to see a large portion of the targets, then there’s a good chance that he will churn the added workload into production.

Chris Hogan injured his ankle in week five and there’s a high probability that he could be missing time. Due to attrition, Smith should continue to be a key contributor in the passing game since there is now less competition for targets. He should also be on the field more to fill some of the void left by Hogan’s injury.

Rashard Higgins, WR CLE

The Browns are starting the throw the ball more which is allowing other pass-catchers not named Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry to see meaningful targets. Higgins was a benefactor in week five, catching three passes for 31 yards and one touchdown against the Indianapolis Colts. If the Browns continue to lean more on the passing game, then Higgins could be a functional fantasy asset going forward.

Cedrick Wilson, WR DAL

If you are struggling to produce a lineup due to injures and you need a wide receiver, then you might want to think about Cedrick Wilson. The Cowboys defense is in shambles which is putting added pressure on the offense. The Cowboys are expected to be in a shoot-out almost every week. Wilson has been a go-to option when the chips are down.

It doesn’t appear that his role in the offense is going to change anytime soon. Even with Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb, and Michael Gallup on the field, the game scripts have been wide open enough to allow Wilson to be productive.

JD McKissic, RB WAS

Antonio Gibson is the lead back in Washington. However, McKissic can hold his own in the passing game. In week five against the Rams, he caught six of his eight targets for 46 yards. Replacement running backs are hard to find in this stage of the season. With him being able to provide some production as a receiver out of the backfield, it could be enough to help your dynasty team get through bye weeks.

The Washington Football Team can’t field a competitive lineup. They are going to be trailing in a lot of games this season. This will provide some garbage time opportunities for McKissic. He’s a player to check the waiver wire for if you need to pick up a running back.

Travis Homer, RB SEA

Injuries have impacted just about everyone’s fantasy team. Running backs don’t grow on trees at this stage of the season. If something were to happen to Chris Carson, then you might want to have the next best available option as an insurance policy.

Going into week five, Homer owned a 12 percent share of the rushing attempts. Carlos Hyde is still on the roster, but we will see Homer receive a significant increase in carries if something were to happen to Carson who has played through injuries throughout the season.

As a side note, DeeJay Dallas has a 99 percent roster rate. Since he’s a rookie, he’s more than likely stashed on a taxi squad somewhere in your league. There’s only a one percent chance that he’s on the waiver wire, but give the waiver wire a quick check to see if you can snag the talented rookie running back.

Chris Conley, WR JAC

Conley was leading the team with 230 air yards going into week five. He is a threat to reel in a couple of deep passes every week. Even with him seeing just 14 percent of the targets, he can still hold value if he connects with Gardner Minshew on one of his deep pass attempts. Look for him on the waiver wire if you need to find a replacement at wide receiver.

Tim Patrick, WR DEN

We need to give Patrick some love. He ranks second on the Broncos with 285 air yards. He has a 15 percent target share on the season which could increase with Noah Fant out of the lineup. We should see him receive consistent usage for the remainder of the year. He could be the bridge that gets you by if your dynasty team has been decimated with injuries.
