20/20 Interview with Addison Hayes
This week we interviewed DLF Writer and data stud Addison Hayes. Here is what he had to say. Enjoy!
Where are you from? My answer to this is always “Central Pennsylvania”. Literally, just pull up PA on a map and point in the middle.
What do you do for your regular job? I am a data associate for a pharmaceutical company called Covance.
What is the worst job you have ever had? I feel blessed to say I have never hated a job entirely. Every job I had had some sort of redeeming quality be it coworkers, customers, hours, etc. To answer the question though, I had a summer job at my town’s public works department where I spent all summer mowing, raking, clearing brush, picking up leaves, and whatever was needed.
What is the best job you have ever had? I really like what I am doing now, but in college I was an assistant store manager for a small Hibbett Sports store in my mall. Without cause for termination now, I can say we did literally nothing, played games with the basketballs, baseballs, footballs, or whatever else we sold, got an awesome discount on clothes and shoes, and did I mention we didn’t do anything?
What do you consider your dream job? Obviously working full-time in the fantasy industry would be legit, but I’ve come to accept my role in the community and love doing it as a passion and hobby. My dream job is still up for consideration, though working as a data analyst for an NFL team would be awesome.
How long have you been in the industry? I am entering my fourth NFL season in the industry after first writing articles in Spring 2017.
How did you get your break into fantasy football? I put out a tweet in like March 2017 that I wanted to write for a website if anyone would have me. I was messaged by @NCCF_Ross on Twitter about helping me join Dynasty Football Factory. I talked with them on the phone that night and was brought on the next day! My big break into the industry was creating FFStatistics though, which caught the attention of Mike Wright, Jason Moore, Matthew Berry, and many others. I am grateful to everyone who has helped me along my path over almost four years, including everyone here at DLF, Ryan McDowell, Shane Manila, everyone who was with me at FFStats, and so many others.
What tool do you use the most on DLF? Having created a lot of them myself, I am very fond of the Player Scoring History App. I designed it to allow for complete fantasy scoring customization, yearly and weekly charts for player stats, and a table of player weekly finishes for a consistency chart. Also, shoutout to the DLF Trade Finder.
What tool do you use the most outside of DLF? Everything on airyards.com. Josh is the GOAT.
Who was the best sleeper you pegged that broke out? Aaron Jones, and not in the way everyone else was by saying, “oh, well everyone knows he’s better than Jamaal Williams.” No, no, no. I was on Jones since before he was drafted and my pinned tweet forever was my take that he would be the 2017 Draft’s David Johnson. I was also very high on Kenny Golladay and found myself with a lot of Phillip Lindsay after he went undrafted.
Who was your biggest whiff? *sigh* Corey Davis…..
What is the worst trade you have made? I can’t remember the worst trade I made, but I do vividly remember the worst trade I ever offered. In my home dynasty league in 2017, I offered one of my best friends and biggest fantasy rival two first round picks for Terrelle Pryor. Thankfully, he rejected that trade and I still make fun of him daily for it.
Who is your favorite underfollowed Twitter account? Jeff Smith. John Hesterman. David Willsey. Jack Miller. JW (@DynastyHumbleSr).
Who is your favorite NFL team? Pittsburgh is slightly closer to me than Philly, so I grew up and still remain a Steelers fan.
Who is your favorite college football team? Penn State University aka Linebacker U
Who was your favorite player growing up? Hines Ward and Jerome Bettis. That SBXL Steelers team was legit.
Who is your favorite player of all time? There is no one I idolized more than Allen Iverson. My favorite number is 3, I adopted his crossover as a kid, and I still own his jersey I got when I was a kid.
What other hobbies or passions do you have outside of fantasy football? I play Fortnite. Yeah I said it.
What are some your favorite movies? I have a very specific genre made up of MCU movies, DC movies, Star Wars, LOTR, anything Steven Spielberg, Mission Impossible, Jason Bourne, anything like that. Miss me with those comedies.
Who are some of your favorite bands? What’s a band? Does Eminem count?
