Prospect Play: CeeDee Lamb vs Iowa State (2019)

Ray Garvin

The Prospect Play series is a quick film session that highlights specific traits and attributes from potential soon-to-be NFL Stars. Anybody can post the highlight reel plays; come take a look at some of the lesser-known plays that make these college prospects devy and dynasty talents.

CeeDee Lamb, WR Oklahoma

Watching highlight-reel plays are fun, but when you’re scouting a prospect, it’s the subtleties to the player’s game that are found inside the shorter receptions, the three-yard runs, the plays that happen without the ball in their hands that really help paint an even clearer picture of the prospect.

In this prospect play episode, we take a look at Lamb’s game versus Iowa State in 2019. In this game, he had eight receptions for 167 yards and two touchdowns.

PROSPECT PLAY SUMMARY

Play one – His run-after-the-catch ability is on display. Lamb’s ability to make defenders miss after the catch is second to none in this 2020 wide receiver class. Lamb showed up that he has more than enough speed, running a 40-yard dash at 4.5 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine to make explosive plays, and his intangibles when he gets the ball in his hands are undeniable.

Play two – We get a look at his big-play ability. Again, we see his run-after-the-catch ability, but on this play, you also see vision, balance, speed, and a nose for the end zone. Lamb was a punt returner during his time at Oklahoma, demonstrating his dynamic capabilities in the open field. You can see how effortlessly he moves in space with the ball in his hands. He’s a special player who can thrive in any system at the next level.

Play three – His willingness in the run game is fantastic. The running back does not score without the help of Lamb and his blocking. Lamb takes out two defenders on this play, springing the running back for a long touchdown run. You see this at least once every game from Lamb. He’s physical in the running game and that non-fantasy scoring play is why he should be an every-down player from day one.

CONCLUSION

While Lamb did lose a fumble in this game which isn’t ideal, his physicality, and big-play and ball-tracking abilities were on full display in this game. When you’re talking about a complete wide receiver prospect, you couldn’t ask for a better player. Game Grade: 9/10
