IDP Snap Counts: Week 11

Tom Kislingbury

This was a fine week for IDP lovers everywhere. There are bargains to be had with a couple of weeks left before the end of the regular season.

Arizona Cardinals

The Cards are back to the top in terms of most defensive snaps played per game. That lovely volume for IDPs as difference-makers.

Haason Reddick (35) and Joe Walker (43) continue to split snaps at LB. Avoid them both. Jordan Hicks (77) has however played an obscene amount. Yay!

Atlanta Falcons

CB Desmond Trufant (70) returned to the team this week. Blidi Wreh-Wilson (five) lost snaps.

On the edge, Takkarist McKinley (26) played a fairly limited (albeit eventful) game through injury with Adrian Clayborn (40) playing a lot as a result.

Ricardo Allen (70) played strong safety again and managed five solos. He should be owned in most leagues.

Baltimore Ravens

There were changes on the line this week. Veterans Domata Peko (22) and Justin Ellis (21) came into the picture with Michael Pierce missing and Chris Wormley restricted to just 16 snaps. Brandon Williams also saw just 33 snaps (down 26 from last week).

Patrick Onwuasor (nine), Josh Bynes (24) and L.J. Fort (29) are all almost unstartable.

Chuck Clark (61) however has been an excellent in-season pickup at safety.

Buffalo Bills

There was some movement at corner. Levi Wallace (33) was limited which left Taron Johnson (62) and Kevin Johnson (36) to pick up additional playing time.

Carolina Panthers

CB James Bradberry (65) played after missing last week’s game. Ross Cockrell missed out.

Brian Burns saw just 16 snaps. He’s hit 25 snaps just once since week six now. He’s unstartable right now.

Chicago Bears

With Danny Trevathan out Nick Kwiatkoski (36) stepped into a bigger role. It was far from a full-time job though. Roquan Smith (52) was the only real ILB you’d want in your team. James Vaughters (nine) played too. Who is he?

Cincinnati Bengals

CB Darqueze Dennard (65) played just his second full game of the season. William Jackson (66) and B.W. Webb (41) were the other corners.

With Preston Brown cut by the team, Nick Vigil (62) was joined by Germaine Pratt (48) with Jordan Evans (13) and Hardy Nickerson (ten) also seeing time. Pratt is clearly not trusted to be a full-time player yet. On a winless team this bad that is a worry.

Cleveland Browns

Joe Schobert (74) was a game-winner at LB this week.

Chad Thomas (57) played a full game at DE with Olivier Vernon out. With Myles Garrett (57) set to miss the rest of the season Thomas isn’t a bad option if you need help.

Morgan Burnett (35) is also headed to IR. Sheldrick Redwine (33) is the next man up at strong safety.

Dallas Cowboys

DE DeMarcus Lawrence (46) suffered a nasty-looking shoulder injury that might cause him to miss time. Robert Quinn (49) and Michael Bennett (43) should cover any absence fairly comfortably. Lawrence is just 25th among DEs in playing time this season.

Denver Broncos

A.J. Johnson and Todd Davis (both 63) are firmly installed as starting LBs on this team. Josey Jewell is a special teamer now. He’s played just 13 defensive snaps since week four.

Edge Justin Hollins (22) played over 20 snaps for the second game in a row. He’s a project but a really interesting one.

Detroit Lions

Safety Tracy Walker (23) returned to the team this week but in just a limited role with Tavon Wilson (67) and Will Harris (59) starting. This will be interesting to monitor going forward. All of them are risky starts in week 12.

Green Bay Packers

The Packers enjoyed a well-earned by week.

Houston Texans

Do you remember when the Texans last had a good secondary? It must have been five years at least.

Johnathan Joseph (27), Lonnie Johnson (43), Gareon Conley (68) and Conell Armstrong (15) are all seeing time at corner. Even Keion Crossen (four) continues to get some plays.

At safety Tashaun Gipson (68), Jahleel Addae (49) and Justin Reid (45) are all getting on the field to middling effect.

Indianapolis Colts

Marvell Tell (54) led the team at CB snaps this week. He’s the fourth different player to do that this season. Kenny Moore (52) and Rock Ya-Sin (29) have been the most reliable but it’s just not a good position group to rely on.

Jabaal Sheard (45) was the leading edge this game with Justin Houston (36) limited.

Star LB Darius Leonard (51) saw limited action this week due to a knock. That partially explained his slow week.

Aside from Malik Hooker (51) playing deep, safety is still a mess. Don’t start any of them.

Jacksonville Jaguars

DT Taven Bryan (50) played his highest total of the season. He’s been underwhelming but this was a good sign.

Najee Goode (65) played again alongside Myles Jack (68) at LB. Quincy Williams has played just 48 defensive snaps since week five. And all of them came in a single game.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs played 80 defensive snaps this week. The most they’ve faced since week six.

DE Frank Clark played 69 of them and he’s back to full health. Tanoh Kpassagnon (65) continues to get plenty of run with Alex Okafor and Emmanuel Ogbah out.

The LB continues to be one to avoid. Anthony Hitchens (51) and Damien Wilson (44) led the way but they still played relatively small roles. 41 other ILBs out-snapped Hitchens this week.

Safety Daniel Sorenson played 71 snaps. Comfortably his highest total of the season. He’s not great but he might be the closest thing this team has to a coverage LB.

Los Angeles Chargers

Another week, another LB mess for the Chargers.

Thomas Davis (66 of 68) is the one reliable option. He has been all season.

Jatavis Brown (49) was actually the second option this week with Denzel Perryman seeing just 21 snaps.

However, Brown managed just three solos tackles and no assists whilst Perryman racked up six solos and one assist. The casual IDP player will assume Perryman was the “starter”.

Brown had not played a single defensive snap since week six and had just 32 total for the season before this week so he was a big surprise while Perryman had averaged 34 snaps per game for the season (241 total). Whilst plenty of owners have been chasing Drue Tranquill on the back of a couple of good games. Tranquill did not play this game.

The smart IDP play is to use Thomas Davis and no one else but IDP owners continue to chase tackles and not playing time. I thought this was a good situation to illustrate how bad decisions are often made.

Los Angeles Rams

CB Troy Hill (76) continues to be a full-time player and a very productive IDP. He’s well worth owning.

Safety Taylor Rapp (61) had a very productive day. Eric Weddle (76) played much more though.

Miami Dolphins

Eric Rowe (69) continues to play box safety. He’s only been moderately productive, but he is a good start.

Jomal Wiltz (64), Nik Needham (71) and Ken Crawley (64) are the corners. Hilariously bad.

DE Avery Moss (45) returned this week whilst Taco Charlton missed the game. Vince Biegel (57) has comfortably been their best edge rusher. That’s not to say he’s been good – but he’s been the best one on the team.

Even with Raekwon McMillan out this week, Sam Eguavoen (33) played a minor role. He’s a failed experiment.

Minnesota Vikings

Andrew Sendejo made his return to the team this week. His half-season in Philly was not a success. He played 60 snaps back as a Viking though. Jayron Kearse felt it most and saw just 41 himself. Anthony Harris’ absence opened the door for this situation, of course.

New England Patriots

The Pats played 75 snaps in a fascinating game. Their second-most all season long.

DE Chase Winovich (30) saw his biggest snap count since week one. John Simon also played 30 snaps with Deatrich Wise and Shilique Calhoun back on 11.

LBs Ja’Whaun Bentley (13) and Elandon Roberts (eight) are both in extremely minor roles right now. Roberts played just one fewer snap on offense this week.

New Orleans Saints

Top corner Marshon Lattimore missed this game. Patrick Robinson (remember him?) played 39 snaps to help out.

Marcus Davenport was restricted to just 23 snaps. He has zero sacks in his last five games but has been steadily creating pressure (15 in that period). His sacks and tackles are both down on his rookie year, but he’s played much better.

LB Kiko Alonso saw his heaviest week as a Saint with 45 snaps. A.J. Klein with just 29 after he took a knock. Demario Davis was well out in front with 68.

Please avoid chasing Marcus Williams. He’s a specialist deep safety. Pick sixes are not predictable plays.

New York Jets

Neville Hewitt made a much-needed return to the team with 68 snaps at LB. Brandon Copeland saw just 15. He was a disaster as an emergency inside backer. James Burgess (68) was the other starter this week. When Neville Hewitt’s return is really good news you know it’s bad.

New York Giants

The NFL public were given a treat – they did not have to endure the Giants this week due to their bye.

Oakland Raiders

Lamarcus Joyner missed this game which meant Nevin Lawson (57) came in to cover the slot DB role.

Maxx Crosby (49) went bananas with four sacks even though he played his lowest snap count since week seven. He’s a weird player. Very unpredictable. Definitely worth holding onto though to see if this is a real sign of things to come.

D.J. Swearinger made his Raiders debut with 38 snaps. Curtis Riley (25) shared the role with Erik Harris (63) out in front.

Philadelphia Eagles

Jalen Mills (74), Avonte Maddox (63) and Ronald Darby (70) were the top corners with Rasul Douglas (18) lagging.

Nate Gerry (73) was the sole full-time LB with Kamu Grugier-Hill (40) continuing to not play enough.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Devin Bush has now played 35/77 and 55/71 snaps in his past two games. That’s not great at all.

Mark Barron (48) and Vince Williams (32) both have their own roles on this team.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks got to spend a week at home resting up on their bye.

San Francisco 49ers

The Niners have played 74 and 69 snaps in the last two weeks and are still the lowest team in the NFL in defensive snaps per game.

In that time, however, Nick Bosa has played 61 and 57. He’s a must-start by now. Contrast that to Dee Ford played 21 snaps this week (and 23 last week). He’s being paid $21m in 2019.

Dre Greenlaw (67) continues to be an excellent IDP option next to Fred Warner (69) at LB.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

CB Carlton Davis (69) returned this week. Vernon Hargreaves was cut, and M.J. Stewart did not play. After Jamel Dean’s amazing week ten game, he also did not play. Mike Edwards (49) played in the slot and amassed five solos. This position is a nightmare to predict. Avoid all options for now.

Tennessee Titans

The NFL’s dullest team enjoyed a bye week. Maybe they’ll have learned what a modern offense looks like when they return.

Washington Redskins

OLB Ryan Kerrigan (58) finally woke up and remembered he’s awesome when on-form. He had two sacks. If only Montez Sweat (36) could get some of that juice.

Safety Montae Nicholson (70) returned from injury. Troy Apke dropped to the bench.

Good luck everyone – just two weeks until the end of the fantasy regular season.
