Prospect Play: Clyde Edwards-Helaire

Ray Garvin

The Prospect Play series is a quick film session that highlights specific traits and attributes from potential soon-to-be NFL Stars. Anybody can post the highlight reel plays; come take a look at some of the lesser-known plays that make these college prospects devy and dynasty talents.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB LSU

The LSU vs. Alabama game put Edwards-Helaire on the map nationally, however, he’s been quietly building his professional resume over the past two seasons in Baton Rouge. He’s not the biggest, fastest or even the highest-profile running back on the Tigers roster, let alone the 2020 class. What he does have are some very intriguing traits that were on full display, which I will highlight on this Prospect Play film breakdown.

Dynasty Outlook

Edwards-Helaire is not without his limitations. He lacks ideal height, he’s not a home run threat to take it the distance on any given play and he’s still is a limited college producer. However, he has demonstrated an outstanding ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, grind out tough yards, and the vision and short-area quickness to make for an interesting pro prospect.

He’s a top-ten 2020 running back for me and I would be very comfortable selecting him in the back half of the second round of dynasty rookie drafts in single quarterback leagues should he declare for the draft.
