Fantasy Stat Pack: Week Ten

Ryan McDowell

If you follow me on Twitter, you’ve probably noticed a series of tweets I share on a weekly basis regarding player and team defensive performances, all from a fantasy lens. I’m going to be sharing some of that same information with you here.

I use this each week as I am making my own lineup and waiver wire decisions and thought you might find this valuable as well.

Note: The scoring system used for this data is always PPR with four points for passing touchdowns.

All year to date fantasy ranks are based on total points.

QB9 Kirk Cousins, MIN
QB10 Ryan Tannehill, TEN

QB12 Jeff Driskel, DET

Week Ten brought us the return of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes along with several signal callers many had decided simply weren’t very good popping up with a QB1 game, including Mitchell Trubisky and Sam Darnold. The story of the week, and maybe of the year, was once again Lamar Jackson, who shredded the Bengals defense both through the air and on the ground. Now imagine he played the fourth quarter.

Year to Date QB1s

QB9 Matthew Stafford, DET
QB10 Josh Allen, BUF
QB11 Tom Brady, NE
QB12 Jameis Winston, TB

Injuries, bye weeks and surprise performances went a long way in shaking up the season-long quarterback rankings this week. Mahomes picked up where he left off and moved up from QB11 to QB7 with plenty of room to grow. Rookie Kyler Murray also moved up two spots to QB5. Matthew Stafford’s injury (QB6 to QB9), Tom Brady’s bye (QB8 to QB11) and Gardner Minshew’s benching and bye (QB12 to QB16) pushed these players down the list. Jameis Winston and Josh Allen both joined the top 12 while Carson Wentz fell out.

A trio of teams have set themselves apart as the friendliest in the league against opposing quarterbacks. The Cardinals, Lions and Giants have each allowed eight QB1 games, while the Bengals are close behind with seven. In Week 11, Arizona gets the 49ers and Jimmy Garoppolo coming off their first loss of the year in another nice spot for handsome Jimmy G. Detroit has their work cut out for them against the red-hot Dak Prescott while the Giants are on bye this week. The Bengals defense will give Oakland’s Derek Carr the chance to have another big game.

The Broncos come off their bye still not having allowed a QB1 game all year and now face Kirk Cousins and the Vikings. A handful of teams have surrendered just one QB1 game, including Baltimore (vs. Deshaun Watson), Buffalo (vs. Ryan Fitzpatrick), Chicago (vs. Jared Goff), New England (vs. Carson Wentz) and the Chargers (vs. Patrick Mahomes.)

RB7 (tie) Chris Carson, SEA
RB9 Joe Mixon, CIN
RB10 Le’Veon Bell, NYJ
RB11 Alvin Kamara, NO
RB12 Kareem Hunt, CLE

Buccaneers running back Ronald Jones didn’t gain much on the ground but still turned in the best fantasy performance of his young career, finishing as the RB5 for the week. The other notable story from Week Ten was the return of Kareem Hunt, who served as the Browns’ pass-catching back in his Cleveland debut and eked out an RB1 performance.

RB9 Leonard Fournette, JAX
RB10 Josh Jacobs, OAK
RB11 Le’Veon Bell, NYJ
RB12 Mark Ingram, BAL

Week Ten brought little change amongst the season-long running back ranks though Titans big back Derrick Henry used his RB1 week to move from RB9 to RB5, swapping places with bye week back Leonard Fournette. Veteran Le’Veon Bell and Phillip Lindsay also flip-flopped as Bell entered the RB1 range and Lindsay exited.

The Chargers have overtaken the Bengals as the worst fantasy defense when it comes to serving up RB1 games to opponents and this week they will be faced with stopping veteran Damien Williams, who has regained control of that backfield. The Bengals and Lions are the next targets, which makes rookie Josh Jacobs and Ezekiel Elliott great plays, as if you weren’t already using them in your weekly lineups.

Ten weeks into the season, the Patriots and Steelers have still not allowed a top-12 performance all year. Eagles running backs Jordan Howard and Miles Sanders share the work, which already hurts the weekly upside of each and considering this matchup, they should be easy to fade in Week 11. The Steelers face the duo of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt this The best fantasy performance against Pittsburgh all year was Rex Burkhead’s RB17 game.

Wide Receivers

Week Ten WR1s (top 12 scorers)

Rank Player
WR1 Christian Kirk, ARI
WR2 Darius Slayton, NYG
WR3 Tyreek Hill, KC
WR4 Amari Cooper, DAL
WR5 Michael Thomas, NO
WR6 Jarvis Landry, CLE
WR7 Golden Tate, NYG
WR8 Randall Cobb, DAL
WR9 DJ Moore, CAR
WR10 Deebo Samuel, SF
WR11 Jamison Crowder, NYJ
WR12 James Washington, PIT

In Week Ten, we might have seen what will eventually turn out to be the best-career performance for Cardinals receiver Christian Kirk along with Giants rookie Darius Slayton. If Slayton is somehow still on your dynasty waiver wire, claim him now. The top-12 group ends with a pair of quietly hot wideouts in Jamison Crowder and James Washington. Both remain undervalued after some early-season struggles.

Year to Date WR1s

WR4 Amari Cooper, DAL
WR5 Tyler Lockett, SEA
WR6 Cooper Kupp, LAR
WR7 DeAndre Hopkins, HOU
WR8 Julio Jones, ATL
WR9 Julian Edelman, NE
WR10 Keenan Allen, LAC
WR11 Kenny Golladay, DET
WR12 DJ Chark, JAX

While this group exchanged places with one another, the top 12 players remained the same from last week. Cowboys wideout Amari Cooper was uncertain to play but still put up big numbers, moving him from WR9 to WR4 on the year. Seahawks Tyler Lockett fell two spots after an injury ended his night early. His health is now a question moving forward. Julian Edelman and DJ Chark each dropped slightly due to their bye week.

The Buccaneers defense strikes again, this time showing up as a target when choosing wide receivers for the week. Tampa Bay has allowed eight WR1 weeks and now faces the best receiver in the league, Michael Thomas. Good luck, Bucs! The Dolphins and Jets are next on the list, propping up players like John Brown and Terry McLaurin. Finally, the Vikings and Oakland have giving up a half dozen WR1 games, which is good news for Courtland Sutton and Tyler Boyd.

The Broncos and Patriots have surrendered just a lone WR1 game all year. Denver will have their hands full with Stefon Diggs and possibly Adam Thielen while the Patriots will look to shut down Alshon Jeffery and his sidekicks.

Tight Ends

Week Ten TE1s (top 12 scorers)

Rank Player
TE1 Mark Andrews, BAL
TE2 Travis Kelce, KC
TE3 Jacob Hollister, SEA
TE4 Kyle Rudolph, MIN
TE5 Greg Olsen, CAR
TE6 Gerald Everett, LAR
TE7 OJ Howard, TB
TE8 Jack Doyle, IND
TE8 (tie) Jared Cook, NO
TE10 Hunter Henry, LAC
TE11 Anthony Firkser, TEN
TE12 Nick Boyle, BAL

We finally see Buccaneers OJ Howard, a preseason top-five tight end, show up on the TE1 list. Howard has been among the biggest busts in the league and needed the Cardinals cake matchup to even crack the top 12 for a week. Raven Mark Andrews also took advantage of a nice matchup to break out of his cold streak with an overall TE1 game.

Year to Date TE1s

Rank Player
TE1 Austin Hooper, ATL
TE2 Travis Kelce, KC

TE6 Zach Ertz, PHI
TE7 Evan Engram, NYG
TE8 Hunter Henry, LAC
TE9 Greg Olsen, CAR
TE10 Darren Fells, HOU
TE11 Gerald Everett, LAR
TE12 Jason Witten, DAL

Andrews used that multi-touchdown game to move back into the top four fantasy scorers for the season, jumping up from TE7. Red-hot Rams tight end Gerald Everett moved into the top 12 while Seahawks injured breakout star Will Dissly final fell out of the TE1 range after not catching a pass in over a month.

2 BAL, BUF, DEN, LAC, MIA, NE, NO, PHI, SF, WAS

The Cardinals remain a disaster against opposing tight ends and now have to face one of the league’s best in George Kittle, assuming he is fully healthy. The Buccaneers are next and face veteran Jared Cook.

An amazing ten teams have allowed just two TE1 games all season. That could be bad news for these players, among others, Mike Gesicki, Kyle Rudolph, Irv Smith, Travis Kelce, Zach Ertz, OJ Howard and Ryan Griffin.

Finally, here is the chart summarizing how teams have fared against each position. I’ve also included the schedule for this week for reference.
