Twitter Observations: Week Ten

Michael Moore

It was another weird week. The 7-1 Saints lost to the 1-7 Falcons (there goes my suicide pool), the Dolphins are suddenly on a winning streak and Ryan Tannehill out-dueled Patrick Mahomes. The fantasy week was no different as Lamar Jackson has seemingly replaced Mahomes as the top fantasy quarterback while Dak Prescott is the Cowboys player to have on your dynasty team instead of Ezekiel Elliott. Some of these items will need to be sorted out before our fantasy playoffs start. Let’s logon and see what we have.

A reminder: This space will be dedicated to an assortment of things we find on Twitter and what it means for our dynasty teams. Most fantasy tweets undoubtedly have a redraft slant to them but we’re here to talk about the dynasty implications.

Dak Sabbath

I chose this tweet not so much for the Elliott shade but more for the Prescott praise. I’m hopeful week ten’s game against the Vikings will kickstart the Prescott love that’s eluded him seemingly his entire career. Finally blessed with a full season of high-quality receiver Amari Cooper, Prescott is on track to set personal records all over the place, currently averaging more than 300 yards per game, 8.7 yards per attempt, and has more 300-yard passing games than he’s ever had in a single season. All of that adds up to being a top-three fantasy quarterback this season.

Dynasty Impact: As Prescott continues to impress in the passing game, he’s going to be hard to ignore in dynasty leagues. It’s hard to see him passing Mahomes or Jackson (more on him below) in dynasty rankings only because Dallas isn’t equipped to support those numbers. But it’s not crazy to slot him in the next tier. He’s just 26 and it would be a huge upset for him to leave Dallas. The only question that remains is if Dallas will continue to support Prescott in the form of Cooper or some other stud receiver. Dallas hasn’t had a receiver this good since Dez Bryant and it would be a shame to curb Prescott’s growth now. Stay tuned to that storyline as it’ll be a big factor if Prescott stays at the top of the dynasty rankings.

Electric Lamar

Congrats if you have Jackson anywhere as he might single-handedly win you a dynasty title. In the passing game, Jackson is on pace for 3,600 yards and 27 touchdowns. Pretty good, right? Now let’s factor in the running game where he’s on pace for 1,200 (!) yards and another ten touchdowns. The rushing stats alone would make him a RB1 but add that to his passing stats and it’s just ridiculous. For every game Jackson hasn’t thrown a touchdown, he’s at least rushed for one. Oh yeah, he’s also just 22 and has a host of receiving options around him that are just as young.

Dynasty Impact: This time last year, it was assumed that any fantasy team with Mahomes at quarterback would have an automatic advantage at the position every week. But not even a full year later and we already have a counter in Jackson. He’s become what we thought peak Cam Newton would be only on steroids (er, in a good way). Currently, Jackson is our fourth-ranked dynasty quarterback but it wouldn’t be ridiculous to say he’s number one. He’s got almost two years on every other top-tier quarterback and still has time to evolve. It’s rare a quarterback in a one-quarterback dynasty league could fetch more than a first-round rookie pick in a trade but Jackson would do it.

Roc Slayton

It was a true breakout game for Darius Slayton in week ten, as he caught balls for 121 yards and two touchdowns. Sure, it helped to have Sterling Shepard and Evan Engram out but Slayton has shown flashes before this week and has been a decent part of the game plan, seeing five or more targets in five of his eight games this season. His 394 receiving yards are third on the team while his five receiving touchdowns lead the Giants.

Dynasty Impact: There’s no doubt that Slayton has been hot and he’s certainly worth more than ranking 81st in our dynasty rankings. However, I don’t see his situation getting better past this season. Both incumbent receivers on the Giants (Golden Tate, Sterling Shepard) have contracts that lock them in for the foreseeable future, not to mention tight end Evan Engram. It’s fair to hope quarterback Daniel Jones gets better but Slayton’s been able to take advantage of this season because of the absence of Shepard (injury) and Tate (suspension). If both of them are healthy and playing, there’s just not enough targets to go around. I’d look to sell high on Slayton.

Thomas Keepers

It’s rare that a receiver can dominate this much of their team’s offense. It’s even rarer for that player to continue dominating opposing defenses. Not only is Michael Thomas leading the league in targets, but he’s also producing the top fantasy receiving season with it. He’s already had five 100-yard receiving games and is on pace for 1,800 yards all while having backup Teddy Bridgewater at quarterback for most of the season.

Dynasty Impact: Thomas is currently our top-ranked dynasty receiver, as he should be. He’s only 26, signed to New Orleans long-term and whether it was Drew Brees or Teddy Bridgewater throwing him the ball, he still produces. The only caveat to a change in any of this is if coach Sean Payton and his offense leave town but there’s no indication of that. Thomas’ challengers to the top spot in dynasty rankings are either older (DeAndre Hopkins) or have not been nearly as consistent (JuJu Smith-Schuster). Treat Thomas as the top receiver in dynasty and keep him at all costs.
