IDP Snap Counts: Week Seven

Tom Kislingbury

Your fantasy season is over half-way through. Of course, anyone reading this column is probably looking at a play-off spot so you’ve got a little bit longer. Keep that streak going!

Arizona Cardinals

Star CB Patrick Peterson came back from injury to play 71 snaps. Kevin Peterson dropped to the bench.

Elsewhere in the secondary Deionte Thompson (64) seemed to seize sole ownership of the starting free safety job with Jalen Thompson managing just seven snaps.

Atlanta Falcons

CB Isaiah Oliver (45) didn’t manage to play the whole game. Blidi Wreh-Wilson (34) stepped in for him.

Kemal Ishmael also was limited to just 38 snaps. Jamal Carter (also 38) filled in for him.

This defense just seems devoid of anything right now. Dan Quinn took them to a Super Bowl but something needs to change here. They look dreadful.

Baltimore Ravens

Marcus Peters (65) stepped in and recorded a pick-six in his first game as a Raven. That was impressive.

Maurice Canady dropped to the bench. Marlon Humphrey (72) played outside with Brandon Carr (70) continuing in the slot.

Josh Bynes (54) and L.J. Fort (56) continue at LB with Patrick Onwuasor still out.

Pernell McPhee played just 12 snaps at OLB. Jaylon Ferguson (46) took advantage. He seems ahead of Tyus Bowser (22) already and is a good target for deeper true position leagues.

Chuck Clark (72) is installed as the starting strong safety. He should be owned in all leagues that start two safeties per team.

Buffalo Bills

Ed Oliver finally had a sack! He played 35 snaps and has been the best interior rusher on the team all year long.

Matt Milano missed the game at LB. Lorenzo Alexander played 70 snaps.

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers played in London last week meaning a bye for week seven.

Chicago Bears

With Akiem Hicks out Roy Robertson-Harris (46), Abdullah Anderson (34), Bilal Nichols (53) and Nick Williams (45) all played on the line. Eddie Goldman of course played nose. He saw 40 snaps.

Cincinnati Bengals

This team is vile.

B.W. Webb (80) and Tony McRae (57) are not good enough at corner. At least Darqueze Dennard (70) returned from injury.

Carlos Dunlap and Carl Lawson both missed the game at DE. Andrew Brown (68) played alongside Sam Hubbard (74). Hubbard has one sack in his last six games.

At LB Germaine Pratt (22) remains a part-time player with Nick Vigil (82) and Preston Brown (49) ahead of him. Only Vigil is really startable.

Cleveland Browns

The Browns enjoyed a bye week and did not play.

Dallas Cowboys

LB Leighton Vander Esch (22) left the game with an injury in the second quarter. Sean Lee (46) stepped up to cover for him.

DT Maliek Collins (41) continues to lead the way for interior linemen on the team. He’s been exceptionally inefficient as a tackler, but he is a good pass rusher and he’s getting the volume.

Denver Broncos

It seems that Alexander James “AJ” Johnson has overtaken Josey Jewell as a starting linebacker. Johnson played 42 and Jewell three.

DE DeMarcus Walker had two sacks but played just 31 snaps. He’d averaged 20 snaps per week before this game. Beware.

Detroit Lions

The Lions used an unusual game-plan this week against the Vikings. The Vikes played the majority of the game with just two receivers and a fullback which meant the Lions were very heavy.

Devon Kennard (69) and Christian Jones (56) both played basically OLB with Jarrad Davis (71) and Jahlani Tavai (60) inside.

Rashaan Melvin (55) and Justin Coleman (65) played most at CB with Darius Slay (18) restricted.

Tracy Walker (62) and Quandre Diggs (55) were the main safeties with Tavon Wilson (18) and Will Harris (23) in secondary roles.

Green Bay Packers

B.J. Goodson (40) remains the second LB behind Blake Martinez (62). That sounds cool but Goodson does not play enough to warrant starting. Oren Burks (14) is playing a tiny role. He has very little immediate chance of turning into a relevant IDP.

Houston Texans

Bradley Roby missed this game at CB. Phillip Gaines (74) again filled in.

Safety Tashaun Gipson (nine) was limited through injury so Jahleel Addae (69) played his biggest game of the season.

Indianapolis Colts

DE Jabaal Sheard (48) is firmly back in the picture. He’s averaged 42 snaps since he returned from injury. That’s second on the team behind Justin Houston (53).

Darius Leonard (65) returned and thrilled his owners. Anthony Walker dropped to just 35 snaps. Bobby Okereke managed just 17.

At safety Khari Willis (65) was the only full-time player. Clayton Geathers (37), George Odum (28) and Rolan Milligan (27) (“who?”) all lagged behind.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Yannick Ngakoue (65) has now outsnapped Josh Allen (39) in five straight games. Allen is the future but he’s a tough start right now.

Quincy Williams (48) returned at LB with Najee Goode (three) losing out. Avoid this headache if you can.

Kansas City Chiefs

Kendall Fuller missed this game. He’s averaged just 50 snaps per game this year anyway. Charvarius Ward (66) and Bashaud Breeland (42) have played about 25 snaps per game more than that. Admittedly Breeland missed time this week which let in Morris Claiborne(24).

LB was a mess. Anthony Hitchens (32) and Reggie Ragland (25) had good games off limited snaps with Damien Wilson (33) and Ben Niemann (34) playing as much but not getting the snaps. Avoid starting any of them until this gets clearer. Absolutely do NOT start Ragland of all people.

Los Angeles Chargers

Melvin Ingram continues to miss games. Uchenna Nwosu (40) continues to stand in for him at DE. Isaac Rochell (33) wasn’t far behind.

At DT rookie Jerry Tillery played by far his heaviest workload with 47 snaps. Before now he hadn’t hit 30. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.

At LB Gus Bradley still hates our teams. Thomas Davis (53) and Denzel Perryman (44) lead the way but the others are all getting 20-odd snaps too.

Strong safety Rodric Teamer (64) had a really good game. You all own him already I suspect. You can laugh at the person in your league that signed Rayshawn Jenkins last week (I bet someone did).

Los Angeles Rams

As suspected Troy Reeder (19) played limited snaps. Outside of Cory Littleton (46) there is no startable LB.

The Rams continue to use three safeties heavily even with John Johnson on IR. Taylor Rapp (54) led the way with Eric Weddle (46) limited and Marqui Christian (44) in the mix.

With Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters out of the picture Troy Hill (46) and Jalen Ramsey (36) led the way at corner. Ramsey will play more going forwards. Darious Williams (19) and David Long (nine) also saw snaps.

Miami Dolphins

Eric Rowe (56) is an OK corner start. Ignore the rest of the dross the Dolphins are trotting out there.

Charles Harris (39) played much more than last week but you can do better than Miami DEs.

Rookie DT Christian Wilkins was ejected from the game after just two snaps. Wat a dolt.

Sam Eguavoen (16) looks done as an IDP. He can be safely cut. Raekwon McMillan (40) is not a full-time player wither though. Just avoid the position here.

Safety Reshad Jones did not play this week. If you haven’t sold him already you missed your chance.

Minnesota Vikings

No significant changes this week for the Vikings. They’re among the most stable of all defenses in the NFL this year. Mike Zimmer is close to cracking a smile. As close as he ever gets anyway.

New England Patriots

With DE Michael Bennett suspended this week for a “philosophical disagreement” the other ends played a little more. Not much more. Shilique Calhoun (21), Chase Winovich (20), John Simon (21) and Deatrich Wise (19) all remain poor IDPs though.

New Orleans Saints

P.J. Williams did not play in this game which left rookie Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to play 59 snaps in the slot.

LB A.J. Klein was limited to just 32 snaps. Busted-up Kiko Alonso (39) played his heaviest game as a Saint.

New York Jets

Star LB C.J. Mosley (68) finally returned after missing the last four games. He played alongside Blake Cashman (74) with Neville Hewitt and Albert McClellan out.

New York Giants

David Mayo (30) didn’t play much at LB but had a decent day anyway. Use this as the opportunity to sell. Alec Ogletree (65) is the only startable option here.

Oakland Raiders

Clelin Ferrell (37) returned at DE after missing the London game. Maxx Crosby (42) seems to be the best option across from him.

Nicholas Morrow joined Tahir Whitehead (both 60) at LB.

Karl Joseph and Erik Harris (both 60) continue at safety. Hilariously the broadcast introduced Lamarcus Joyner (44) as “FS”. He’s been playing in the slot all season.

Philadelphia Eagles

After the Eagles cut LB Zach Brown last week there’s been a lot of debate about who will play. Nigel Bradham was out this week too which has muddied the waters. Nate Gerry (70) and Kamu Grugier-Hill (59) led the way but there’s likely just one full-time job here. And it should be Bradham when he’s back. Gerry is interesting but not a 100% player.

Jalen Mills made his first appearance of the season and saw 64 snaps. Rasul Douglas (63) played across from him with Orlando Scandrick (36) in the slot.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers have a bye week to try and find some semblance of an NFL quarterback.

Seattle Seahawks

DT Jarran Reed (50) returned from suspension this week. Poona Ford (34) lost most snaps but Al Woods (30) lost out too.

Rookie safety Marquise Blair (59) played his first real game (he had 12 snaps previously) and Twitter has got excited but when Bradley McDougald returns he’ll likely head back to the bench.

San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers played just 48 defensive snaps this week. The downpour had something to do with that, but they’ve averaged just 51 in their last four games. This is a low-volume defense.

DeForest Buckner (43) has played just 269 defensive snaps this season. He’s on track for 717 snaps. He’s never played less than 850 before and has averaged 908. 2019 is going to be a disappointment for his owners.

Nick Bosa (41) however is still a force. He is ridiculously good, and because he hasn’t quite had the sack numbers his play deserves he isn’t getting the plaudits he deserves. He’s going to be a pro bowl player before too long.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bucs had a bye week after traveling to London last week. Which apparently is such a long way you need a week to recover.

Hint: it’s not.

Tennessee Titans

Rookie Jeffery Simmons (21) managed to get on the field! Lots of people thought he would miss the whole season after he hurt himself in the pre-draft process, so this is a triumph. He also managed a sack which was just cool.

Jayon Brown missed the game at LB which allowed Wesley Woodyard (57) to fill in again.

Harold Landry (59) remains the only option for IDP leagues at OLB. Cam Wake (22) is a long way back.

Washington Redskins

Josh Norman missed the game at CB. Fabien Moreau (63) and Quinton Dunbar (64) played outside with Jimmy Moreland (35) in the slot.

Safety Montae Nicholson (31) was limited so Troy Apke (35) stepped up alongside Landon Collins (64). You may remember Apke from his rapid 4.3 40 time which seemed to shock Deion Sanders. Sanders refrained from being overtly racist about this but did a poor job of hiding it.

If you’re in contention, then don’t let up. There are titles to be won and IDP points to be found. If you’re out of contention, then keep signing players and flipping them for future picks. Anything you can get is pure profit.

Thanks for reading.
