Twitter Observations: Week Seven
It was a weird week in fantasy. Not only were there several studs on bye weeks (Christian McCaffrey, JuJu Smith-Schuster) which forced several odd plays but some of those plays surprising racked up points. If you stacked Jacoby Brissett and Zach Pascal or started Alex Erickson for some reason, you had a good week. But, as we know, one week doesn’t make a dynasty team and doesn’t necessarily bode well for the players dynasty prospects – just like the players below may or may not have seen their dynasty prospects change this weekend either.
Let’s logon and find some of the more interesting tweets of the week.
A reminder: This space will be dedicated to an assortment of things we find on Twitter and what it means for our dynasty teams. Most fantasy tweets undoubtedly have a redraft slant to them but we’re here to talk about the dynasty implications.

No. No one saw this week coming. Not even the most ardent Chase Edmonds truthers could not have seen a three-touchdown day to go along with his 150 total yards. But here we are and could, possibly, be here again next week as the injury that sidelined David Johnson lingers. Even if Johnson returns this season, it’s not a given he’ll return to the workhorse role he’s filled the last few years in the desert.
Edmonds is averaging over 5.5 yards-per-carry and looks like a possible redraft league winner. Meanwhile, Johnson has looked downright pedestrian, rushing for just 300 yards on 77 carries and, sadly, has more yards receiving (315). It’s not unreasonable for the Cardinals to try and get both Edmonds and Johnson on the field at the same time, especially considering the lackluster receiving options Arizona is currently fielding.
Dynasty Impact: The buy window is closing fast as Edmonds is still only ranked 53rd in our dynasty rankings but will change rapidly after last week. It may plateau once Johnson fully returns but what about after this season? Edmonds is still just 23 and has two years left on his rookie contract while Johnson, who turns 28 in December, also has a contract that expires in two years albeit at a much higher price. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Cardinals attempt to find a trade partner in order to save some cap space. After all, why do you need a 28-year old running back that costs north of $10 million dollars while you’re in the middle of a rebuild?
Enter the Boyd
Tyler Boyd through the first 5 weeks:
-Caught 37 of 50 targets (74.0%)
-406 yards (81.2 per game)
-1 TD
-11.0 yards/rec
-Faulted with 1 INTTyler Boyd in the last 2 weeks:
-Caught 8 of 21 targets (38.1%)
-65 yards (32.5 avg)
-0 TD
-8.1 yards/rec
-Faulted with 1 INT & 1 Fumble.— Evan McPhillips (@emcphil) October 20, 2019
It’s certainly been slow going for Tyler Boyd these last two weeks but you could say that about the entire Bengals offense. They’ve failed to total more than 300 total yards of offense over that span while quarterback Andy Dalton’s turned it over four times. On the season, the Bengals have failed to top 23 points in any game this season and have totaled more than 300 yards of offense just half the time. The injury suffered by AJ Green in preseason didn’t help matters and it won’t be long until there’s a quarterback change after Andy Dalton’s thrown eight picks this season plus another three fumbles lost. In short, they’re bad.
Dynasty Impact: Despite the onslaught of inevitable changes in Cincinnati this off-season, Boyd won’t be one of them. He just signed an extension and will be just 25 when the 2020 season starts. Chances are Green has moved on while the Bengals surely will attempt to upgrade at quarterback. Boyd is currently ranked as a top-20 dynasty receiver and should be treated as such.
Auto Raider
Darren Waller in six games this season:
50 targets
44 receptions
485 yards
2 TDs— Ian Hartitz (@Ihartitz) October 20, 2019
Waller was a popular choice off waiver wires this past off-season after winning the competition to replace Jared Cook at tight end in Oakland. Cook was fifth among tight ends in targets last year but signed with New Orleans in free agency and took with him over 100 targets. Enter Waller, who has had quite a roller coaster of a career including being suspended for a good chunk of his career due to substance abuse violations. Not even halfway through this season and you see the numbers he’s generating on his way to literally being the top fantasy tight end so far.
Dynasty Impact: Waller has been amazing but I wouldn’t get too carried away. He’s currently a top-ten dynasty tight end but, in reality, there’s not much room for growth. You could easily argue he’s a better asset than OJ Howard or even Zach Ertz at this stage. But beyond those two there are several younger, more proven tight ends ahead of him while being one of the oldest of the TE1 bunch. Treat Waller as A TE1 just not THE TE1.
Remember that one Titan?
So Titans fans…we good with Tannehill now, or…?
— Benjamin Allbright (@AllbrightNFL) October 20, 2019
It’s not exactly the dawn of a new era in Tennessee with Ryan Tannehill at quarterback but the offense did look a lot better and the Titans won which made people forget about Marcus Mariota, if only for a week. The Titans threw for over 300 yards for the first time this season thanks to Tannehill while highly-touted receivers Corey Davis and AJ Brown, both drafted to help Mariota, looked like the receivers they were drafted to be. Davis led the Titans with six receptions for 80 yards and a score while Brown caught six passes on his team-leading eight targets for 64 yards. Hell, even tight end Jonnu Smith got in on the action after Delanie Walker went down, totaling 64 yards on just three catches.
Dynasty Impact: No Titans players will have more riding on a quarterback change than Davis and Brown. Both are currently ranked in the top 35 in our receiver rankings but were severely at risk of dropping if Mariota’s poor play continued. It was almost to the point that they would have been a good buy-low as we approached the trade deadline as surely the Titans will have a different signal-caller next year. That may not be possible now that Tannehill is in. Both Davis and Brown are a hold.
