Devy Stock Market

Nathan Powell

The fantasy football stock market is constantly fluctuating and it is always important for us to know which players have a price that has become exploitable, whether it be to buy or sell.

Pieces like this one have been commonplace in the industry for a while in both redraft and dynasty, but I will be focusing on college players for devy dynasty leagues and how their week-to-week performances are affecting their price in those leagues.

Reagor Revival – Jalen Reagor, WR TCU

Reagor came into this college football season as one of the most highly-touted wide receivers in college football. Reagor had 1,061 receiving yards with nine receiving touchdowns in 2018, along with some groundwork with 13 carries for 170 rushing yards and two touchdowns. In his junior season, where many expected his breakout to continue, he has had a mediocre start to the season with less than 30 receiving yards in three of the first four games and has only reached the end zone once.

In game five, we saw more of what we expected, as he had four catches for 69 receiving yards and a pair of scores. I project this to be the turnaround Reagor needs to help return to 2018 form. Now is a good time to check on the Reagor owners in your league to see if the slow start to the season soured them on him at all. I still think the junior wideout is a day two NFL draft pick whenever he comes out, which will likely be in 2020, especially if we see more of what we saw against Iowa State.

Purdue Passing Attack – Jack Plummer, QB Purdue and Brycen Hopkins, TE Purdue

This Purdue pairing had one of the best weekends in college football, helping put them on the radar of scouts and dynasty players.

Jack Plummer, disappointingly no relation to former NFL quarterback Jake Plummer, hadn’t shown much in his sophomore season prior to last week. In his fourth career start, Plummer had a big game against Maryland, throwing for 420 receiving yards and three touchdowns. The 6’5”, 220-pound quarterback has the size of an NFL quarterback and his breakout performance makes him a player to watch the rest of the season for superflex devy players.

His favorite target on the day, Brycen Hopkins, had a big day at tight end with 10 catches for 140 receiving yards. The fifth-year senior tight end, Hopkins has had 77 or more receiving yards in three of five games this season, averaging over 13 yards per catch in four of five games. Hopkins is a player to watch the rest of the season when looking for sleeper tight ends in 2020 rookie drafts.

Aiyuk Looking Awesome – Brandon Aiyuk, WR Arizona State

Aiyuk put himself on the dynasty radar early this season with four catches for 140 receiving yards and a touchdown in week one against Kent State. He has continued his excellent performance throughout the season, making him one of the best seniors to target in rookie drafts, particularly in devy leagues.

Aiyuk has at least four catches in five of six games, 98 receiving yards or more in four of six games, averaging 139 receiving yards in those games, highlighted by seven catches for 196 receiving yards and three touchdowns against Washington State last week. He has shown this season that he’s more than just a college WR1 for a team that just lost one to the NFL, he’s a threat to be a day two NFL draft pick. Aiyuk has the second-highest yards per catch (21) among receivers with at least 30 catches.

Hopping for Henderson – Justin Henderson, RB Louisiana Tech

Henderson is quickly growing into one of the best running backs in college football. The sophomore had a slow start to the season with 41 rushing yards total in the first two games. Since then, Henderson has put up big numbers on limited volume. In the following four games, Henderson has averaged 109 rushing yards per game while averaging only 11.75 carries per game with seven rushing touchdowns, including a pair of three-touchdown performances.

The 5’10”, 218-pound back should be one of the top non-power five players to target in devy this off-season, particularly if we see more performances like last week with 11 carries for 137 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Can We Get Much Higher, Hightower – John Hightower, WR Boise State

Hightower has been one of the best wide receivers in college football in the last two weeks. In his junior season and first season at Boise State in 2018, Hightower averaged 16.3 yards per catch with 504 receiving yards and six touchdowns. He was also a threat on the ground with 163 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

In the first four weeks of this season, Hightower averaged only 50 receiving yards per game. In the last two weeks, he has 11 catches for 246 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns against UNLV and Hawaii. If we continue to see more of what we have seen in the last two weeks, Hightower will be another intriguing senior to watch for the NFL draft next spring.
