Fantasy Stat Pack: Week Six

Ryan McDowell

If you follow me on Twitter, you’ve probably noticed a series of tweets I share on a weekly basis regarding player and team defensive performances, all from a fantasy lens. I’m going to be sharing some of that same information with you here.

I use this each week as I am making my own lineup and waiver wire decisions and thought you might find this valuable as well.

Note: The scoring system used for this data is always PPR with four points for passing touchdowns.

All year to date fantasy ranks are based on total points.

Quarterbacks

Week Six QB1s (top 12 scorers)

Rank Player
QB1 Matt Ryan, ATL
QB2 Lamar Jackson, BAL
QB3 Deshaun Watson, HOU
QB4 Russell Wilson, SEA
QB5 Kyler Murray, ARI
QB6 Kirk Cousins, MIN
QB7 Tom Brady, NE
QB8 Carson Wentz, PHI
QB9 Sam Darnold, NYJ
QB10 Baker Mayfield, CLE
QB11 Patrick Mahomes, KC
QB12 Aaron Rodgers, GB

Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins produced his second straight QB1 game in Week Six after four consecutive performances outside of the top twenty fantasy scorers. The Jets got Sam Darnold back and he immediately produced one of the best games of his young career, finishing as the QB9 for the week. While Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has finished as a QB1 in all six games this season, in the past three games he has finished as the QB11, which is below the lofty expectations fantasy players have for him.

QB7 Kyler Murray, ARI
QB8 Tom Brady, NE
QB9 Carson Wentz, PHI
QB10 Jameis Winston, TB
QB11 Gardner Minshew, JAX
QB12 Aaron Rodgers, GB

Now six weeks into the season, we are starting to see some stability in the ranks at all positions, especially quarterback. Lamar Jackson became just the third quarterback since the merger to rush for 150 yards in a game and used that performance to flip flop spots with Mahomes. With the Colts and Jacoby Brissett on bye, he fell from the QB12 spot while Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers climbed into the QB1 range.

QB1 Games this Season

QB1 Games Players
6 Patrick Mahomes
5 Carson Wentz, Lamar Jackson, Tom Brady
4 Dak Prescott, Deshaun Watson, Matt Ryan, Russell Wilson
3 Jared Goff, Kyler Murray

0 BUF, CHI, DEN, NE, TEN

Through six weeks, the Cardinals, Falcons and Giants have each allowed five QB1 games, making them obvious targets when selecting a signal caller for the week. Arizona will travel to New York to face the Giants, pitting two of these poor pass defenses against each other. Rookie Kyler Murray has already established himself as a weekly fantasy starter, but fellow rookie Daniel Jones is also a worthy option in this juicy matchup. Meanwhile, the Falcons will face the Rams in what should be a bounce back game for Jared Goff, who managed just 1.12 fantasy points and a QB29 finish last week.

Five teams have still yet to allow a top-twelve quarterback performance this year. The Bills (vs. Josh Rosen/Ryan Fitzpatrick) are almost certain to extend their streak while the other four squads face interesting tests. The Bears host Teddy Bridgewater and the Saints in a battle of two low-scoring teams and the Titans face off against struggling veteran Philip Rivers and the Chargers. New England gets their second game of the season against the Jets, though this time that includes Darnold. Finally, the Broncos stream could come to a screeching halt as they try to stop the Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes on Thursday night.

Running Backs

Week Six RB1s (top 12 scorers)

Rank Player
RB1 James Conner, PIT
RB2 Nick Chubb, CLE
RB3 David Johnson, ARI
RB4 Devonta Freeman, ATL
RB5 Ezekiel Elliott, DAL
RB6 Chris Carson, SEA
RB7 Jamaal Williams, GB
RB8 Christian McCaffrey, CAR
RB9 Miles Sanders, PHI
RB10 Carlos Hyde, HOU
RB11 Leonard Fournette, JAX
RB12 Adrian Peterson, WAS

When Bill Callahan took over as the Redskins interim head coach following Week Five, he promised to build the offense around the running game. That’s easy to say when the Dolphins are next on the schedule. That resulted in veteran Adrian Peterson’s first RB1 game since Week Eight of last year. The Packers got Jamaal Williams back on the field and he took over after Aaron Jones botched a pair of important plays. Williams finished with over 130 total yards and a touchdown. Eagles rookie Miles Sanders produced the first RB1 game of his career, though most of his damage came as a receiver. Over two-thirds of Sanders’s fantasy points so far this season have come from his work as a receiver.

Year to Date RB1s

Rank Player
RB1 Christian McCaffrey, CAR

RB3 Austin Ekeler, LAC
RB4 Nick Chubb, CLE

RB6 Aaron Jones, GB
RB7 Alvin Kamara, NO
RB8 Ezekiel Elliott, DAL
RB9 Leonard Fournette, JAX
RB10 Mark Ingram, BAL
RB11 Chris Carson, SEA
RB12 James Conner, PIT

Cardinals back David Johnson had another big week as a pass catcher and used that to move up from RB7 to RB5 for the week. Jones struggles in Green Bay dropped him a couple of spots from last week while Ezekiel Elliott moved up from RB11 to RB8. On a bye, Derrick Henry fell out of the RB1 range, as did Broncos back Phillip Lindsay. They were replaced by last week’s RB1 James Conner along with Chris Carson.

0 NE, PHI, PIT, SF, TEN

The Bengals remain the gold standard of bad rush defenses this season. Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette is one of only three backs playing over 90% of his team’s snaps and now faces the best matchup in the league. Fournette should be the first player in your lineups this week. While not nearly as bad as the Bengals, five other teams have allowed at least four RB1 games this year. The Browns are on bye, but the others should be targets this week. They include Detroit (vs. Dalvin Cook), the Chargers (vs. Henry), Miami (vs. Frank Gore/Devin Singletary) and Seattle (vs. Mark Ingram).

A handful of teams have yet to allow a top-twelve running back performance this year. The Steelers will sit out this week but the others will make for difficult challenges for their opponents. The Patriots (vs. Le’Veon Bell), Eagles (vs. Elliott), 49ers (vs. Peterson) and Titans (vs. Melvin Gordon/Austin Ekeler) are each matchups to consider this week.

Wide Receivers

Week Six WR1s (top 12 scorers)

Rank Player
WR1 Stefon Diggs, MIN
WR2 Terry McLaurin, WAS
WR3 Chris Godwin, TB
WR4 Tyreek Hill, KC
WR5 Curtis Samuel, CAR
WR6 Alshon Jeffery, PHI
WR7 Robby Anderson, NYJ
WR8 Golden Tate, NYG
WR9 Mike Evans, TB
WR10 Julian Edelman, NE
WR11 Julio Jones, ATL
WR12 Jaron Brown, SEA

The squeaky wheel in Minnesota, receiver Stefon Diggs, finally got the looks he’d been begging for and responded with three touchdowns and 167 yards, good for the WR1 by a wide margin. Redskins rookie Terry McLaurin was back on the field and produced his first ever WR1 game, thanks to a pair of touchdowns. Golden Tate (vs. the Patriots) and Alshon Jeffery (vs. the Vikings) became the first receivers to produce a top-twelve game against their respective opponents this season.

Year to Date WR1s

Rank Player
WR1 Chris Godwin, TB
WR2 Michael Thomas, NO
WR3 Cooper Kupp, LAR
WR4 Amari Cooper, DAL
WR5 DJ Chark, JAX
WR6 Keenan Allen, LAC
WR7 Julio Jones, ATL
WR8 Mike Evans, TB
WR9 Adam Thielen, MIN
WR10 Tyler Lockett, SEA
WR11 Julian Edelman, NE
WR12 Courtland Sutton, DEN

The top half of the WR1 list was largely unchanged from last week as Buccaneers breakout receiver Chris Godwin remains the WR1 for the season. His teammate Mike Evans jumps back into the top-twelve, moving to WR8. Adam Thielen moved up from WR12 to WR9 while Courtland Sutton dropped to WR12. Veteran Julian Edelman made his way into the WR1 range and Will Fuller and Tyler Boyd each dropped out of the group.

2 ARI, CHI, CLE, DAL, DET, GB, HOU, JAX, KC, LAC, NYJ, OAK, SEA, SF
1 BAL, BUF, CIN, DEN, MIN, NE, PIT, TEN

With the Buccaneers on bye in Week Seven, that leaves the Eagles as the top target of the week. Philadelphia faces division-rival Dallas this week, who could be without star receiver Amari Cooper, who is dealing with a quad injury. Michael Gallup would become a must start option as the top target for quarterback Dak Prescott. The Falcons must deal with stopping the Rams trio of talented pass-catchers Brandin Cooks, Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp.

While no team has a spotless record when it comes to allowing WR1 performances this season, one-quarter of the league has surrendered just one top-twelve game. Among the receivers that must deal with these defenses this week are: Tyler Lockett, DJ Chark, Dede Westbrook, Tyreek Hill, Kenny Golladay, Robby Anderson and Keenan Allen.

Tight Ends

Week Six TE1s (top 12 scorers)

Rank Player
TE1 Hunter Henry, LAC
TE2 Austin Hooper, ATL
TE3 George Kittle, SF
TE4 Mark Andrews, BAL
TE5 Ricky Seals-Jones, CLE
TE6 Darren Fells, HOU
TE7 Jared Cook, NO
TE7 (tie) Cameron Brate, TB
TE9 Maxx Williams, ARI
TE10 Ryan Griffin, NYJ
TE11 Jason Witten, DAL
TE12 Travis Kelce, KC

The Chargers got Hunter Henry back on the field and all he did was put up the best fantasy performance of any tight end this season, scoring twice against the Steelers. Darren Fells just might be for real, posting his third TE12 game of the year, while Saints veteran Jared Cook cracked the top-twelve for the second week in a row.

Year to Date TE1s

Rank Player
TE1 Austin Hooper, ATL
TE2 Mark Andrews, BAL
TE3 Travis Kelce, KC
TE4 Evan Engram, NYG
TE5 Zach Ertz, PHI
TE6 Will Dissly, SEA
TE7 Darren Waller, OAK
TE8 George Kittle, SF
TE9 Greg Olsen, CAR
TE10 Jason Witten, DAL
TE11 Delanie Walker, TEN
TE12 Gerald Everett, LAR

Again, we saw little change among the top tight ends since last week. Mark Andrews swapped places with Giants tight end Evan Engram, who sat out the game with an injury. Eagles veteran Zach Ertz wasn’t even in the top-fifteen fantasy tight ends for the week and scored just over seven fantasy points but somehow climbed the season-long ranks from TE7 to TE5.

The Cardinals have been outright pathetic against tight ends this season, allowing the overall TE1 in Week Two and four overall TE2 games. The Giants expect Engram back on the field this week and he should be in for a monster game. The Colts and Steelers have each given up four TE1 games this week. While Pittsburgh is on a bye, Indy faces the suddenly hot Fells and Houston.

The Patriots are yet to allow a TE1 game and face the Jets and Ryan Griffin this week. New York was hoping to have Chris Herndon back by now but he is dealing with an injury.

Finally, here is the chart summarizing how teams have fared against each position. I’ve also included the schedule for this week for reference.
