DraftKings Bargains: Week Nine

Bruce Matson

Salaries are very tight on DraftKings this week and we have to scrummage extra hard through the bargain bin to find cheap reliable players to put in our lineups. The salaries have stabilized for the season which means there are no more free squares to throw into your lineups. Being frugal with every lineup decision is essential to maximizing your results.

Quarterback

Joe Flacco, BAL ($5,300)

Flacco is set for a prime matchup against a Pittsburgh Steelers team allowing 265 passing yards per game. Even though Baltimore has one of the top pass defenses in the league, this game should still be high scoring which will fuel Flacco’s fantasy output.

So far this season, he is averaging 17.4 fantasy points per game. The odds of him bottoming out this week are very slim. He should easily pass for 250 yards and a touchdown or two. This doesn’t sound much, but when you add in how his cheap price tag could allow you to pay up at other positions, justifying his moderate scoring output. Cheap players like Flacco allow you to jam in more expensive options into your lineup which will maximize your team’s overall value.

At $5,300, he’s one of the cheaper starting quarterbacks on DraftKings. He has a relatively safe floor and we know that if this game becomes a shootout then he might morph into a QB1. Even if he scores just 15 fantasy points, it’s still worth it to roster him because he will allow you to stretch your bankroll at other positions. Quarterback is one of the positions you want to pay down on because there’s less volatility at the position and there’s not much of a drop off from a low-end QB1 to mid-level QB2.

Vegas has the over/under set at 47 points and they also have the Ravens favored by three points. The over/under suggests that this could be a high scoring affair. We could see a game script that could cause Flacco to throw the ball over 40 times. The last time he played the Steelers he passed for 363 yards and two touchdowns.

Other options: Matt Ryan $5,700, Philip Rivers $5,600, Case Keenum $4,900

Running Back

Nick Chubb, CLE ($4,500)

Chubb is rolling into week nine with a very advantageous matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. They are currently allowing 127.6 rushing yards per game. He has the ability to break off a long run on any given play. After two straight middling fantasy performance, Chubb looks to make his mark against one of the hottest teams in the NFL.

Everything is according to price when you are trying to find the right values for your DraftKings lineup. At $4,500, Chubb has the potential to deliver you RB1 results while allowing you to pay bargain basement prices. It’s hard to find quality running backs at a discount this late in the season. Therefore, you have to take chances on some boom-bust propositions. There is some risk associated with Chubb this week, but his upside makes him a great play in tournament lineups.

The over/under for this game is set at 51.5 points and the Chiefs are favored to win this game by nine points. The Browns are expected to get blown out in this game which means they might abandon the run. The caveat to that statement is that if things get too far out of hand then the Chiefs’ run defense might soften up, giving Chubb opportunities to bust out a big run. He’s not the safest play but he could prove to be the most valuable come Sunday.

Other options: Adrian Peterson $6,000, Isaiah Crowell $4,200, Devontae Booker $3,700

Wide Receiver

DeSean Jackson, TB ($5,000)

Ryan Fitzpatrick is back under center for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The recent controversy at quarterback could land a helping hand to Jackson’s fantasy value in all formats. He will be playing against a Panthers defense allowing a 9.1 average depth of target. They also have allowed 2,443 air yards to opposing offenses which means teams are not afraid to attempt the deep ball against them. The Buccaneers will look to exploit this matchup by using Jackson as a homerun threat.

He’s not super cheap but his price tag is low enough to make him an easy add for your lineups. Jackson and Fitzpatrick definitely have a solid rapport and things can heat up between the two as early as this week. As we all know, he has the reputation of being a high-floor low-ceiling fantasy asset. There’s a chance he could be one of the highest scoring wide receivers this week and there’s also the chance that he scores you hardly anything at all. With that being said, he’s a great play for tournament lineups.

Vegas has the over/under set at 55 points with the Panthers favorited win by seven points. The game script should favor the pass and Fitzpatrick should be dropping back to pass a good 35-50 times in this game. Jackson could be one of the top performers this week in fantasy.

Other options: Calvin Ridley $5,700, Kenny Golladay $5,500, Josh Reynolds $4,500

Tight End

Kyle Rudolph, MIN ($3,600)

It’s been an up and down year for Rudolph. Going into this season we were expecting more out of him. This week he will be playing at home against a Detroit Lions defense who is giving up on average 13.4 fantasy points to the tight end position. In his last 12 games against the Lions, he has averaged four catches for 34 yards and .5 touchdowns. This isn’t a prime matchup, but he still has the potential to produce a TE1 week.

Tight end is one of the most volatile positions from a week to week standpoint, making it more logical to pay down at the position while constructing lineups on DraftKings. Rudolph is a very cheap option at $3,600 and he’s also a very safe play because you know he’s going to see a few targets in the passing game.

The over/under for this game is at 49 points and the Vikings are favorites to win this game by five points. There should be enough scoring in this game to fuel both offenses and Rudolph should receive enough targets to give him a chance to put up decent numbers this week. If anything, we are hoping for a touchdown out of Rudolph.

Other options: Austin Hooper $3,800, Vance McDonald $3,700, Benjamin Watson $3,200
