IDP Buy Lows and Sell Highs

Doug Green

We just passed the quarter-pole of the fantasy season. It’s time to take look in the mirror and have an honest conversation with yourself. Is my team a contender or a pretender?

Are you 2-1, but needed some Fitz-magic to pull out wins? Have you started 1-2, but just got back Reuben Foster? Sometimes it’s difficult to tell if you are about to start kicking butt, or if you should start over. A shrewd owner needs to make that call quickly and decisively.

No matter which way you’re trending, we’re here to help you out with some buy low/sell high candidates for you to set yourself up for a push or for next season.

Buy Low

Sam Hubbard, DE CIN

I love everything I see from this kid. He plays with a relentless motor and plays on a unit which produces fantasy options on every level of the defense. He has legitimate top-12 defensive end potential very soon. The price tag will only go up. — Eric Olinger

Stephen Weatherly, DE MIN

Whatever is going on with Everson Griffen, it’s unlikely to resolve very soon. Weatherly put up five solos, two assists, and a sack in Griffen’s absence. — Steve Schulz

Jason Pierre-Paul, DE TB

He’s already got ten tackles and three sacks to go with a forced fumble this season. He’s been looked over thanks to what’s happening on the offense and the two linebackers. He’s someone who you can pick up for a late pick. — Doug Green

Aaron Donald, DT LAR

He has 15 pressures through three games. He gets Minnesota, Seattle, and Denver in his next three games. Kirk Cousins is second among quarterbacks in drop back pressures, and Russell Wilson is fifth. His sacks will come. He started off 2017 with one sack in his first four games, then had a sack in each of his next four. If an owner is impatient, now is the time to make your move. — Bee Salamat

Joey Bosa, DE LAC

His injury sucks, but it’s not major. We’ve all seen what he can do when he’s right, and it’s pretty dang scary. Much like Donald above, if you’ve got an owner in your league who is jumpy or injury-adverse, go get the DE1 and have him reinforce your run to the title. — Doug Green

Sell High

Sean Lee, LB DAL

The plan was to pass the torch to Leighton Vander Esch, and that plan was expedited when Lee injured both hamstrings in back-to-back weeks. — Eric Olinger

Bobby Wagner, LB SEA

Let’s be serious, the Seahawks are kind of a mess. The Legion of Boom is more like The Legion of Boo. The defensive line has been meh. Wagner is 28 years old and due $10.5m next year before hitting free agency. His talent isn’t dropping but the supporting cast is, and that means more focus is going to go to him. — Doug Green

Deone Bucannon, LB ARI

Take what you can get for him because name recognition is your only asset with him right now. Josh Bynes and Gerald Hodges have taken away all of the snaps, and Bucannon is one the league’s most injured players. — Steve Schulz

Karl Joseph, S OAK

To be honest, I don’t even know if you can sell Joseph high. You might have a hard time selling him low. But the Raiders defense is a steaming pile of, well, not good. I thought a couple of years ago that Joseph was going to rank side-by-side with Keanu Neal for their careers. Get out while you can. — Doug Green

Leonard Williams, DE NYJ

He’s only 24 years old and was the sixth overall pick in the first round in 2015. But Williams is missing something, posting zeros on the stat sheet in both week one and week three. Sell him before anyone notices he’s not contributing on the Jets D. — Steve Schulz

Eli Harold, LB DET

He’s got three sacks on the season, but only five tackles. Even with Matt Patricia at the helm, I just don’t see Harold keeping up this sack pace. Try to move him before your league-mates figure it out. — Doug Green
