The DLF Mailbag

Matt Price

Welcome back to the DLF Mailbag! Let’s get to your questions.

1.) I recently traded away Dez Bryant, Jordy Nelson, and DeSean Jackson. Leaving me with these starters: Brees-Hunt-Julio-Alshon-Ingram-DT-RoJo-Delanie. I basically have no bench to speak of besides Deshaun Watson.

Let me say I’m team #alwaysjulio. That being said, I let it be known if anyone was interested in him, I would listen to offers. Only two owners responded with interest. The current offer proposed to me is DeVante Parker, Sterling Shepard, Marlon Mack, Chris Thompson, and Kenny Stills for Julio Jones. This owner owns Christian Kirk, but is reluctant to include him in a deal. I would do Parker, Shepard, Kirk, and one of Mack/Thompson/Stills for Julio. But he won’t.

Do I have “Julio goggles” on and should accept the current offer or should I hold out for Kirk?

Option 3: Wait until the season starts and for a better offer when owners need a stud if I’m not in the hunt.

Jared in Alabama

12 team half ppr, start 1 QB 1 RB 2 WR 3 FLEX 1 TE

Jared,

If you are just interested in diversifying assets to build depth then I think either deal is fine. I agree with you it would be nice to get Kirk here, but from a straight value standpoint, I think it’s fine either way.

I think we can tell ourselves a story about how Parker will finally break out and if not Stills will. Mack is a nice upside dart throw who should get enough opportunity to be an RB2 or better for fantasy in 2018. Chris Thompson is a productive receiving back.

All that said, I still want the Julio side. This is a classic case of trying to turn four quarters into a dollar. The other owner is trying to consolidate a bunch of small pieces into an elite piece. Unless I’m not competing, I prefer the Julio side. I think he will continue to produce WR1 seasons for the next several seasons. Keep your stud receiver and your four extra roster spots. If roster spots aren’t an issue and these will upgrade you across the board I guess I can see it, but with the information I have, I prefer the stud.

Looking at your starting lineup it seems like you have a good chance to compete in 2018 so if you are still keen on moving Julio, why not wait to A.) see if you’ll be in contention and B.) if not sell him in-season when veterans hold more value to teams looking for that final piece for their title run.

2.) What is DeMarco Murray’s value once signed? What are the best landing spots?

Andy E in Sacramento, CA

12 team half ppr, start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 SFlex, 3 flex (.5 per 1stD, TE premium)

Andy,

Clearly with the news of DeMarco Murray retiring, this question has already been answered for you. But prior to the announcement, I was thinking about this too and like where your head was at. For me specifically, I thought he would end up in Buffalo with all the negative press around LeSean McCoy right now. I liked the potential for him to get significant work somewhere so much that two days prior to his retirement I traded two fourth-round rookie picks for him.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know you weren’t the only one looking forward to Murray landing in a good situation for 2018.

3.) Hi guys. In a keeper / dynasty league where we keep 10 and have a rookie + draft in August. I am picking sixth in the draft and need to keep two of Tevin Coleman, D’Onta Foreman, Marlon Mack, Chris Hogan, Jimmy Garoppolo, David Njoku. Leaning toward Coleman and Garoppolo, but would appreciate your thoughts. I Have a solid top eight with Aaron Rodgers, Odell Beckham, Melvin Gordon, Devonta Freeman, LeSean McCoy, Alshon Jeffery, Tyreek Hill, and Allen Robinson.

Andrew in Toronto

12 team non-ppr, start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE DST, K

Andrew,

Nice squad! If Shady gets suspended then it throws a bit of a wrench into your running back depth, but even without him this is a strong team, Unless there will be nothing else out there at quarterback then I would throw Garoppolo back in the pool and hope to just draft him again.

I’d rather keep Marlon Mack as your RB4, because we know he is going to have a role in 2018. With the rate at which running backs are injured, having four players you can plug in weekly is a nice situation to be in. I have a feeling you’ll be able to find a quarterback who isn’t being kept easier than you will be able to find a running back you want to start. Not knowing that information, it’s tough to make that call for you,

If you have absolutely no shot at getting another quarterback, I can see choosing to keep Garoppolo. If you can get someone else in the draft then I think you have to keep Coleman and Mack.
