Voxer Superflex Rookie Mock Draft

The DLF Voxer chat has been incessantly filled with draft talk since ever since the first rookie rankings came out on DLF months ago. Like the rest of DLF’s community, we’re constantly talking player values, rankings, and where we wanted to see rookies land in the NFL draft last month.

So, in culmination of the NFL draft, we had a quick two-round mock draft where anyone could chime in to select a player still on the board. Here’s come quick details on the draft; then let’s get into the picks!

  • This was a superflex draft.
  • Once someone made a pick, they had to wait at least five more picks before selecting another so that more voices could be heard.
  • I didn’t participate, so any commentary I provide below is objective to the draft

Early Round One

1. Saquon Barkley (RB1)

2. Baker Mayfield (QB1)

3. Nick Chubb (RB2)

4. Sam Darnold (QB2)

Even in this Superflex format, there wasn’t any doubt that Saquon Barkley remains locked in at the first overall pick.

Where do the rookies land in our 2QB Dynasty Rankings?

The main question heading in was where the quarterbacks would slot in amongst the draft’s top running back and receiving prospects. We had two quarterbacks go in the early first round of this draft, Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold, who were also the first two to go in the NFL draft.

Rounding out the top of the first round, Nick Chubb, another new Cleveland Brown, retained his pre-draft buzz to find himself picked third overall in this mock.

Mid Round One

5. Derrius Guice (RB3)

6. Rashaad Penny (RB4)

7. Josh Rosen (QB3)

8. DJ Moore (WR1)

Despite his draft day slide, few have lost faith in Derrius Guice as a top running back in this year’s class. His slide in this draft didn’t last nearly as long, coming in at five overall.

We see Rashaad Penny, a personal favorite of mine since January, come off the board in this range. He’s been a riser throughout the entire draft process.

Rounding out the middle of the first round is Josh Rosen, many people’s top rated quarterback pre-draft, and DJ Moore, the first receiver taken in both the NFL and this Voxer draft.

Late Round One

9. Lamar Jackson (QB5)

10. Ronald Jones (RB5)

11. Sony Michel (RB6)

12. Courtland Sutton (WR2)

With quite possibly the highest fantasy ceiling amongst this year’s quarterbacks, Lamar Jackson is a late first round pick in this mock draft. He may have to wait behind Joe Flacco for the immediate future, but a late first selection here could prove to be a steal in 2019.

We also see two more running backs, Ronald Jones and Sony Michel, get selected in this range. Jones has been highly criticized by analysts this off-season regarding his size and receiving ability, but his landing spot certainly pushes him up the board. Michel, on the other hand, was a consensus early pick only a month ago, but has slid down draft boards a bit recently, including in this mock.

Courtland Sutton, who seemingly has the highest upside of any receiver in this class, rounds out the first round.

Early Round Two

13. Josh Allen (QB5)

14. Calvin Ridley (WR3)

15. Anthony Miller (WR4)

16. Christian Kirk (WR5)

The second round kicks off another quarterback, Josh Allen, and a small run of wide receivers. Allen, though constantly criticized this offseason, was still a top ten NFL draft pick and will have every opportunity to succeed in Buffalo.

Calvin Ridley, Anthony Miller, and Christian Kirk are all receivers who found themselves in good situations thanks to the NFL draft and are in positions to succeed right away. They all present solid value in the beginning of round two in this Superflex mock.

Mid Round Two

17. Royce Freeman (RB7)

18. Kerryon Johnson (RB8)

19. James Washington (WR6)

20. Michael Gallup (WR7)

After the mini-run of receivers, the next two picks finish up the consensus top eight running backs. Royce Freeman and Kerryon Johnson seem to be compared a lot this off-season as comparable value picks in rookie drafts. Both have the opportunity to produce startable fantasy numbers as soon as this year.

James Washington and Michael Gallup wrap up the middle of the second round. While Washington was taken higher in the NFL draft and was considered an overall better prospect than Gallup by most, his value has taken a hit post-draft as he enters a crowded Steelers receiving core. Gallup, on the other hand, has the upside to be the best wide receiver in this class in year one, going to a decimated Cowboys pass-catching group with the loss of Dez Bryant and Jason Witten this off-season.

Late Round Two

21. Mike Gesicki (TE1)

22. Dante Pettis (WR8)

23. D.J. Chark (WR9)

24. Tre’Quan Smith (WR10)

We finally get the first tight end of the draft here in the later part of the second round. While Mike Gesicki may not be heralded on the same level as last year’s tight end group, he is as athletic as it gets and is in a great position to be a key part of Miami’s offense.

Dante Pettis stands as one of the biggest risers after the NFL draft, being paired up with Jimmy Garoppolo for the foreseeable future.

DJ Chark and Tre’Quan Smith both land in situations where, if they beat out competition, could be in line for a sizeable workload moving forward. They are both high upside plays worthy of late second round picks.

Wrap-up

Superflex rookie drafts are always interesting in that the quarterbacks start to be in the same conversation as many of the upper-tier players that have been mentioned throughout this draft season. You can see the value the DLF staff puts on quarterbacks with all five coming off the board within the first 13 picks.

Overall, the running backs and quarterbacks remained the top picks in this mock draft, while receivers dominated the second round. This is a phenomenon I would expect to continue as rookie drafts unfold this off-season.

Hopefully this gave you some insight into how the DLF staff is thinking about Superflex rookie mocks at this point in the off-season.
