Dynasty Waiver Wire: Week 15

Jeff Haverlack

Welcome to our weekly in-season coverage of waiver wire considerations for this week!

We won’t be forcing waiver wire advice or suggestions.  Instead, expect to see a wide-ranging number of players each week, based solely on increasing snaps, injury or any combination of events that suggest a player’s status could change in the future.  You can expect we will be providing a bit of justification for the addition as well as just how deep the particular player is.  We are only highlighting those players that we believe deserve some level of attention, not merely players who happen to see targets or log a carry. As is always the case in fantasy, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Whether you are a multiple-year winner or in a constant state of rebuilding, the waiver wire is, arguably, your largest source of talent from which you will build your future dynasty.  Being first to act and last to react, year over year, will play a huge role in the building and shaping of your team(s).  It takes a lot of commitment to stay that engaged, but it’s an activity that will pay dividends every year.

Week 15

The year is getting long in the tooth as my mother was fond of saying (not in that context however) and the player pool to target is drying up.  Many of the names to consider from this point forward will be short-term adds due to injury.  On occasion, teams out of the hunt do play younger players and some will spark more excitement and earn more snaps.  These are the players we’re most excited about targeting.

Good luck in the playoffs!

Without further delay, let’s get to your weekly waiver wire additions:

Nick Foles, QB PHI

No surprise here in that Foles is next-man-up with the unfortunate ACL injury to Carson Wentz.  Wentz is due to undergo surgery in the next few days and his 9-12 month recovery time will threaten his ability to be under center when the 2018 season kicks off.  ACLs are notorious in not only their physical recovery time but also for their emotional recovery.  It takes months following physical healing for the player to fully overcome the mental aspects of the injury and learn to trust the joint again.  That said, the quarterback position is easier to return from on the earlier side of the time-table.

Foles is a veteran with a similar skill-set to that of Wentz, in that he’s able to throw off the run.  He’s not an exciting replacement but he’ll be a quality add into the last games of the season, especially in 2QB formats.

T.J Yates, QB HOU

It’s an unfortunate set of events for DeAndre Hopkins owners in that Yates is set to start in week 15.  At least he has eyes for Hopkins.  Hopkins, for his part, has produced well under all three quarterbacks this year and he’s an automatic start regardless of who is under center, but expect a small decrease in efficiency at the very least.  Beyond week 15, Yates can be returned to the free agency pool unless something occurs that keeps him at the helm.

Geronimo Allison, WR GB

Allison is likely already rostered in deeper leagues and he’s one of my favorite stashes for 2018.  Devante Adams is a free agent in 2018 while Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson are both free agents in 2019.  It will require some level of patience, but you can expect Allison to see serious field team in event of injury, departure of Adams or the retirement of Nelson.  Allison is an exclusive rights free agent in 2017 so the Packers will have to determine at what level to tender him, if at all.

Bryce Petty, QB NYJ

Another addition due to injury.  McCown will miss the remainder of the season due to a hand injury requiring surgery.  It’s now the Bryce Petty show and, potentially, Christian Hackenburg should Petty not show well.  Not much to see here unless Petty lights it up and that’s just not likely to happen.  He’s a short term add for 2QB formats and, even then, chances are you’ve lost already if you’re forced to start him.

Other Deep League Considerations

Brian Hill, RB CIN
Elijhaa Penny, RB ARI
