IDP Snap Counts: Week 12

Tom Kislingbury

Hi everyone.

There’s only one game left of the regular fantasy season. Hopefully you’ve already clinched your spot in the postseason on the back of having a dominant defense across the board rather than the one or two standouts your opponents have lucked into.

If you want to drive that advantage home, now is the time to make sure you’re adding unheralded vets who the non-playoff teams don’t want because they’re planning on spending way-too-high rookie picks on linebackers and safeties.

Arizona Cardinals

Deone Bucannon took a knock and only played five snaps last week at LB. Josh Bynes stepped in with 58 snaps. Haason Reddick still only saw the field for 24 snaps. They don’t trust him enough to play full-time outside and they’d rather have Bynes on the field inside than ask Reddick to move back. This is not a good look for Reddick.

On the back end Budda Baker played 62 snaps this week. He was obviously going to not continue to have huge weeks but he’s still in a good spot. Keep starting him.

Atlanta Falcons

Damontae Kazee stepped in this week to play 32 snap. It was his biggest week since week four. It was a direct result of both Desmond Trufant and Brian Poole taking knocks at corner. Kazee is designated a safety but as we know the slot is a very interchangeable role now. CJ Goodwin also played 47 snaps at corner.

Baltimore Ravens

Matt Judon has been the most productive edge player in Baltimore but it’s worth noting he’s only played 38 and 39 snaps over the last two weeks. Terrell Suggs has managed 48 and 60 in the same period.

Buffalo Bills

Leonard Johnson and Shareece Wright have played significant time at corner in Buffalo, but Tre White and EJ Gaines are clearly the best options and are the top options at the moment. I think they’re both very solid IDP plays.

Matt Milano continues to play around 15 snaps a week. He’s unstartable at the moment but it’s clear the coaching staff likes him and he’s a very nice stash for 2018.

Carolina Panthers

The awesomely-named Captain Munnerlyn missed out this week. Filling in at slot corner was Kevon Seymour instead.

At LB Thomas Davis has been the full-time player across from Luke Kuechly since week five now. I really thought Shaq had passed him earlier this season. He hasn’t.

Chicago Bears

With Leonard Floyd out and on IR, Sam Acho picked up the slack at outside LB. He played 64 snaps. He hadn’t managed 40 in a week since week one. Pernell McPhee played 45 and Isiah Irving 36. Irving had played a total of five snaps previously this season.

Cincinnati Bengals

Shawn Williams missed out again last week. That’s the third game this season he hasn’t played in. George Iloka has done pretty well in his absence but Iloka is still an unreliable option. The Bengals just don’t ask either of their safeties to play in a role that encourages IDP greatness. Clayton Fejedelem played 34 snaps. He exists purely to confuse me every time I type his name.

Cleveland Browns

Last week I warned you that the Browns would have a lot less volume than the previous week. Against the Jags the team played 858 snaps. This week against the Bengals just 671. That’s about 12-15 snaps per player less.

In particular the LBs suffered. Christian Kirksey went from 78 to 61 snaps, James Burgess 71 to 43 and Joe Schobert 78 to 61, James Burgess had one huge week but it was never going to become the norm.

Volume will be back to normal against the Chargers this week so start your Browns with confidence. Apart from Burgess. He sucks.

Dallas Cowboys

Ugh. Jeff Heath returned as the starter at safety across from Byron Jones. Jones played 56 snaps with Heath on 60. I do not rate Heath at all. Xavier Woods played just 27 snaps which is a pain but I’m still hopeful. He’ll be a much better player than Heath.

At corner Chidobe Awuzie played five snaps this week. First time he’s been on the field since week five. I really like Awuzie as a prospect. He and Jourdan Lewis (40 snaps) should be fixtures for the Cowboys in 2018.

Denver Broncos

Todd Davis played a season-high 51 snaps last week. The Raiders love their power running game so that was likely a gameplan decision. He shouldn’t be started in almost any league.

After Aqib Talib was booted from the game, Bradley Roby managed a season-high 62 snaps and will be a decent option when he fills in for Talib next week too.

Detroit Lions

Miles Killebrew played 32 snaps at safety last week. The most he’s played since week five. Again I think this was gameplan specific as the Vikings are such a run-heavy team but it’s one to watch.

Tahir Whitehead led all LBs in volume with 73 snaps. This is amazing to me. Jarrad Davis has been dialled down from being on the field all the time after his disappointing season. He’s still full of IDP promise but he’s not been nearly as good as we hoped he would be.

Green Bay Packers

Morgan Burnett was the player to own this week as he played 73 snaps and put up nine tackles. Josh Jones saw just 26 snaps in a high-volume week for the Packers.

Jake Ryan had a big week with 52 snaps. His snaps have gone up the last four games in a row.

Houston Texans

Lamarr Houston missed out last week at OLB for the first time since he joined the team. Ufomba Kamalu managed 26 snaps in response.

All the inside LBs picked up snaps this week. Benardrick McKinney (67), Dylan Cole (19), Zach Cunningham (56) and Brian Peters (24) had a role.

Indianapolis Colts

Clayton Geathers returned to the team this week from IR. And played four snaps. Four. Matthias Farley continued as the starter with 58. It’s possible Geathers comes back but I’m starting Farley and keeping him going forwards.

John Simon also returned at OLB with 476 snaps. Barkevious Mingo dropped to spot duty with just 13 snaps as a result.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jags had a big weekly uptick in volume with around 200 snaps more than they did against the Browns a week before. This meant Myles Jack as an example went from 55 to 73 snaps. That has an obvious effect.

Annoyingly Telvin Smith didn’t get the increase as he took a knock. But who didn’t like Paul Posluszny coming in to play 53 snaps?

Marcell Dareus played his heaviest volume for the Jags at DT with 38 but that’s still fairly low. He’s only owned because he’s got a famous name.

Kansas City Chiefs

Reggie Ragland. Remember him? He played 42 snaps this week on top of his 47 in week eleven. During that period Derrick Johnson has seen 35 and 44. Ragland has a great chance to be relevant going forwards.

Allen Bailey also returned with 16 snaps. He’s been useful at times this season.

Los Angeles Chargers

This was a really low-volume week for the Chargers with just 605 as a team. They saw over 900 twice in their previous three games. So everyone lost playing time this week.

The one exception being Denzel Perryman. He saw 50 snaps and is clearly Gus Bradley’s favourite option at this stage. This is awesome news for him.

Leading the chase for the other LB spot is “safety” Adrian Phillips. He played 48 snaps this week and looks like he could easily play the Telvin Smith role in Bradley’s defense.

Los Angeles Rams

This was a big team drop in volume this week with around 125 snaps fewer than the previous week.

As an example Alec Ogletree (78-57) and Mark Barron (78-56) both lost around a quarter of their playing time compared to a week before.

Miami Dolphins

With William Hayes out at DE Terence Fede stepped up to play 27 snaps.

Interestingly at safety Michael Thomas played 30 snaps with Reshad Jones (69) and TJ McDonald (67) the full time players. Obviously it didn’t work as the Patriots trounced the Dolphins again.

Minnesota Vikings

Andrew Sendejo came back in at safety to play 59 snaps. Poor Anthony Harris was unceremoniously again. That’s three times that’s happened this season now.

Brian Robison came back to play 16 snaps at DE with Stephen Weatherly falling back to just 15. Neither is startable.

New England Patriots

Trey Flowers had his best day in a while and amazingly did it from just 35 snaps. With Cassius Marsh out of town the DE who got some playing time opposite Flowers was… Eric Lee. He played 25 snaps to Deatrich Wise’s 32.

At LB Kyle van Noy managed 51 snaps (in the inefficient Hightower role) with Elandon Roberts (34), David Harris (21), Marquis Flowers (21) and Trevor Reilly (12) all getting some time.

New Orleans Saints

Kenny Vaccaro played 77 snaps this week. I’d say at safety but really he’s playing in the slot full time at this stage. You shouldn’t be starting him. Vonn Bell (74) is the far better option based on usage.

At LB Craig Robertson (64) and AJ Klein (77) are back as the main options but they’re both amazingly inefficient. Klein has a tackle on 8% of his snaps. That’s about the same as Matt Judon and Vince Biegel.

With Alex Okafor out Trey Hendrickson played 33 snaps but David Onyemata played 40. I’m a Hendrickson fan but we might have to wait until 2018.

New York Jets

The Jets remain extremely consistent on defense. The only significant change this week was Morris Clkaiborne being back to full health and playing 68 snaps.

New York Giants

Another week another combination of LBs. This week Kelvin Sheppard (66), Jonathan Casillas (60) and Devon Kennard (37) played. Only one of them (Casillas) played more than 20 snaps last week.

Oakland Raiders

Cory James suffered a knock this week and only played 15 snaps. Nicholas Morrow stepped up to 43 snaps in his absence. NaVorro Bowman remains the top option with 59 snaps.

At safety Reggie Nelson (51) and KarlJoseph (43) remain starters with Obi Melifonwu reduced to a single snap. He’s been a low-key disaster so far.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles absolutely hammered the Bears last week and took the opportunity to rest some players.

Malcolm Jenkins was one and managed just 44 snaps. Jaylen Watkins (11) and Corey Graham (20) filled in.

Nigel Bradham (44) and Mychal Kendricks (38) also got a rest with Najee Goode (17) and Kamu Grugier-Hill (11) getting some snaps.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Mike Mitchell returned to fitness at safety. He played 55 snaps with Robert Golden reduced to just a solitary snap.

James Harrison hasn’t played a snap since week seven and has only lined up 29 times this season. It’s a strange strategy.

Seattle Seahawks

Michael Wilhoite stepped in to play 34 snaps at LB. KJ Wright (56) and Bobby Wagner (56) remain the fulltime starters of course.

Jarran Reed (27) and Quinton Jefferson (32) both stepped in to play after missing out last week. Naz Jones (23) and Sheldon Richardson (29) lost playing time correspondingly.

At DE Marcus Smith is back to strength and played 39 snaps. The most he’s managed all season. Dion Jordan did not play this week. Some people thought he might actually be a good player in Seattle. Clearly that’s not going to happen.

San Francisco 49ers

At DE Leger Douzable missed out entirely after being very useful recently. Cassius Smith stepped in immediately to play 27 snaps on his debut. Solomon Thomas made his return too to play 49 snaps.

At safety Eric Reid continues to be the man to own at stroing safety. He played 67 snaps this week. Antone Exum played 4o snapos next to him.

The 49ers have been utterly crippled by injuries on defense this year. They’re going to be so much better in 2018.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

There were almost no changes week on week here. William Gholston came back at DE to play 36 snaps with Robert Ayers not playing. That’s it.

Tennessee Titans

Fan favourite LB Jayon Brown took a hit this week. He only saw 22 snaps compared to 49 last week. Avery Williamson played 41 after 27 last week.

Washington Redskins

Martrell Spaight did not play on Thanksgiving which meant Zach Vigil (39) and Josh Harvey-Clemons (17) both got time at inside LB next to Zach brown (55). I don’t care. I’m not touching the second Washington LB whoever it is at the moment. It’s been unproductive all season long. I advise you also ignore the spot.

Phew. That’s it for this week. I hope you have another great week and your IDP teams are dominating your leagues. Thanks for reading everyone and good luck!
