IDP Rookie Tracker: Week 5

We have reached the quarter pole of the NFL season. Our 15 IDP rookies that we have been tracking have frankly looked like the first-year players they are. However, several of them are beginning to round into shape and we have some news to cover.

As we move into the second quarter of the season we should get a strong idea of who will become fixtures in your lineup.

Haason Reddick: We start this week with some news. Reddick will move from the inside linebacker spot he has been manning all year, to the outside linebacker spot that he played in college. This should be a good switch for him and bring some more production. In Week 4 Reddick played 48 snaps and recorded just two solos.

Duke Riley: Things are starting to trend down for Riley. He played only 39 snaps and turned in just two assists. DeVondre Campbell seems to have re-secured the weakside job, which leaves Riley as a rotational player. The Falcons are on a bye this week, so we’ll see if Dan Quinn makes any changes.

Taco Charlton: Speaking of trending the wrong way, Charlton has seen his snap count continue to sink, down to 22 this past week. He had only an assist. Dallas simply needs more out of the Michigan product.

Jarrad Davis: Good news, Davis wasn’t listed on the injury report with a concussion this week. Bad news, he’s now listed with a neck injury. Either way, he’s missed two weeks and it’s still up in the air whether he will play this week or not.

Derek Barnett: Now here’s a player on the uptick. Barnett played 24 snaps, which about what he’s been averaging. He turned in two solo tackles and a fumble recovery. Now obviously, that is a little bit luck, but the fact he is putting up just more than a couple of tackles is promising.

Solomon Thomas: Speaking of uptick, Sunday was Thomas’ best day as a pro. He played 69 snaps, the most in the front seven. Thomas turned in five solos and a sack. That is excellent work for the No. 3 overall pick. This is a positive sign going forward.

Reuben Foster: Once more Foster was out with his ankle injury, though SBNation reported that Foster is beginning to take part in warmups with the team. Apparently the target is for Foster to play next week, so let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Jonathan Allen: Allen had a bit of an average game this week against Kansas City. He played 37 snaps, the most along the defensive line. The downside is he only recorded three assists. I do like that Washington’s staff is letting him play. That should mean that numbers will follow soon.

Myles Garrett: Bad news, he didn’t play again. Good news, he will this week. Garrett tweeted on Wednesday that would be returning this week. He also gets bonus points for doing so in Spanish. While I don’t think he’s have a ton of numbers this week, it will be good to see him out there and see what he can do.

Jabrill Peppers: So, if you get points for return yards, this was your week to play Peppers. He returned five kicks and another three punts. But you drafted him for his play defensive back, well, this wasn’t an all-star week. Peppers played 62 snaps, but yielded on four tackles, two solos.

Zach Cunningham: Cunningham has entrenched himself a the LB1 for the Texans. He played 32 snaps, four more than Bernardrick McKinney. Cunningham had three tackles, two solo on the day. If you managed to pick him up during your draft after the third round, pat yourself on the back.

Charles Harris: Playing in London wasn’t really Harris’ thing. He played 35 snaps and had just one solo tackle to show for it. Like Allen above, he’s getting snaps, so production should follow.

Jamal Adams: Yes, it was an overtime game, but 77 snaps is just crazy to think about. In that he recorded five tackles, three solos. Adams and Peppers were arguably a coin flip and so far their numbers are very similar.

T.J. Watt: Watt is rounding into a nice OLB play. He was tied for the linebacker lead in snaps with 67 and recorded four solo tackles.

Jayon Brown: Brown recorded four tackles on 33 snaps. He is firmly planted as the LB3. He was always an insurance policy, but I would have a hard time starting him at this point.
