DLF’s 2017 IDP Predictions: Most Overvalued Player

Eric Olinger

At this time of year there is absolutely no shortage of fantasy football articles, information, metrics and ADP but it always comes back to one question: “who are you drafting/avoiding?” We get a lot of those kinds of tweets and predictions are my favorite part of the preseason. If you have as many hits as you did misses you did great but nobody remembers the hits. Instead, you’ll be crucified for that one miss…and I love it. So I asked my DLF brethren to give me their IDP predictions for 2017. We’ll undoubtedly have some of those hits and misses so let’s get right to them. Today we’re focusing on the “Most Overvalued IDP Player.”

Frank Clark, DE SEA

They have three players better on that line who aren’t walking, talking suspensions. People point to his production, but he carries too much risk for my taste. – Doug Green

Ziggy Ansah, DE DET

He’s currently being drafted as the DE8 in drafts and that’s way too high in my opinion as I’m one to think he’s already peaked. With the lack of talent on that defensive line there’s even more concern going forward.  If you’ve sold him, good for you because his time as a DE1/DL1 are far gone and he’s on my hard pass in dynasty and redraft. – Brandon “Bee” Salamat

NaVorro Bowman, LB SF

Unfortunately, I really like this player, but Bowman is on the wrong side of aging linebacker coming off a second leg injury. I have him as LB53. Adam Tzikas has him as his LB6 for context. –Bob Brannon

Kwon Alexander, LB TB

This feels a bit like heresy at this point but I stand by it. While Kwon is without a doubt a great linebacker, I think we need to take a step back and look at the process that lead him to being ranked in middle tiers before his breakout. One aspect we might be looking over as IDP players is the talent and ability of Lavonte David. If he returns to form, Kwon will see a decrease in numbers. The LB3 is a tad high for me. – Adam Tzikas

Grady Jarrett, DT ATL

Everyone remembers his three sacks in the Super Bowl. Very few people remember that he had just three sacks in the whole regular season. He’s nowhere near the elite level of tackles but people are hyping him up on the back of the “Big Game.” How did that work out for Kony Ealy in 2016? –Tom Kislingbury

Deone Bucannon, LB ARI

Bucannon was one of my favorite IDP assets when he was a safety playing a “dime linebacker” role but when his official position was switched to linebacker it took all that value away. His production per game hasn’t changed much over his three year career but the difference is the positional surplus at the linebacker position. His 91 total tackles last year would’ve tied him for ninth among defensive backs, instead he finished 34th among linebackers. His current ADP is LB19 and I don’t think it’s indicative of what we’re going to see from here on out. – Eric Olinger
