DLF’s 2017 IDP Predictions: Comeback Player of the Year
At this time of year there is absolutely no shortage of fantasy football articles, information, metrics and ADP but it always comes back to one question: “who are you drafting/avoiding?” We get a lot of those kinds of tweets and predictions are my favorite part of the preseason. If you have as many hits as you did misses you did great but nobody remembers the hits. Instead, you’ll be crucified for that one miss…and I love it. So I asked my DLF brethren to give me their IDP predictions for 2017. We’ll undoubtedly have some of those hits and misses so let’s get right to them. Today we’re focusing on the “IDP Comeback Player of the Year.”

JJ Watt, DE HOU
Duh. – Doug Green
Reshad Jones S MIA
Many will pick J.J. Watt, and rightfully so, but I’m going a different path with Reshad Jones. He’s one season removed from being the clear cut DB1 after amassing 135 total tackles in 2015. He missed ten games last season with a shoulder injury. He’s back now and the Dolphins haven’t addressed their LB issues so I’m expecting Jones to eat once again and contend with Landon Collins and Keanu Neal for top defensive back honors. – Brandon “Bee” Salamat
Robert Quinn, LB LAR
Another homage to balanced scoring, Robert Quinn is one year ahead of Watt in recovering from the ever-challenging back injury. Also, Wade. Phillips. –Bob Brannon
Danny Trevathan
I’m going out on a limb again, but coming off of a patella tendon tear, Trevathan might surprise as a useful linebacker for owners this year. He should easily surpass Jerrell Freeman in terms of production once healthy. –Adam Tzikas
JJ Watt, DE HOU
Jeremy Funk tells me he’s going to be fully fit again. Even if he’s not, 80% of Watt is probably still the best edge rusher in football. Any other player getting 20 sacks would be a huge, newsworthy year. For Watt it would simply be business as usual. – Tom Kislingbury
JJ Watt, DE HOU
Admittedly, I’m a sucker for a great story. JJ Watt will be remembered for what he’s doing for the community of Houston as much as for how dominant a football he was when all is said and done. It’s just too great of a storyline for him to not come back and get right back into the path of destruction for opposing quarterbacks. Admittedly, his back problems are a concern. However, I believe he may be part robot and I expect a monster season. – Ken Kelly
NaVorro Bowman, LB SF
Clearly the correct answer to this question is J.J. Watt, but an honorable mention and my selection is 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman who is returning from a torn Achilles tendon. Many people are selling Bowman due to the multiple lower leg injuries and the presence of rookie sensation Reuben Foster but I’m still a believer. New defensive coordinator Robert Saleh seems to be turning the heat up on this defense with his exotic schemes. In week three of the preseason he rolled out a package with six defensive backs, Foster and four down linemen. When asked after the game if Bowman would lose passing down work he heaped praise on Bowman’s coverage ability and stated that particular package will be run with both Foster and Bowman at times. This defense can support (and has supported) two worthwhile linebackers in the past and I fully expect it to happen again in 2017. Saleh run a scheme derived from the Seahawks style of play and Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright have both been IDP producers. – Eric Olinger
