DLF’s 2017 IDP Predictions: Most Undervalued Player

Eric Olinger

At this time of year there is absolutely no shortage of fantasy football articles, information, metrics and ADP but it always comes back to one question: “who are you drafting/avoiding?” We get a lot of those kinds of tweets and predictions are my favorite part of the preseason. If you have as many hits as you did misses you did great but nobody remembers the hits. Instead, you’ll be crucified for that one miss…and I love it. So I asked my DLF brethren to give me their IDP predictions for 2017. We’ll undoubtedly have some of those hits and misses so let’s get right to them. Today we’re focusing on the “Most Undervalued IDP Player”.

Derek Wolfe, DE DEN

Nobody ever talks about Wolfe, but he’s the blue collar run stuffer who allows Von Miller to eat quarterbacks for his mid-afternoon snack. – Doug Green

KJ Wright, LB SEA

Wright hasn’t missed a game in three seasons, has averaged 123 tackles a season, and is the LB25 in ADP. That’s solid value for a top tier LB2, as he’s finished LB18 and LB14 the last two seasons and shown a high level of consistency. Don’t disrespect the Wright. – Brandon “Bee” Salamat

Whitney Mercilus, LB HOU

Check out my linebacker rankings and tell me I have Whitney Mercilus way too high. He’s a beast if your league recognizes sacks are worth something. –Bob Brannon

Brandon Graham, DE PHI

In almost all scoring systems I love defensive ends because the drop-off is so steep. There just aren’t many consistently effective pass-rushers. Although he has never put up huge sack numbers, Graham is one of those elite pass rushers. He was third in pressures in 2016 and I like him to improve his numbers this year. Remember another pass rusher who had a load of pressures but not sacks? Khalil Mack as a rookie. Brandon Graham is going absurdly cheap and I’m buying him wherever possible. –Tom Kislingbury

Thomas Davis, LB CAR

Yes, he’s old. Yes, this could be his last season. Yes, he’s had countless knee problems. Still, this is a player with five straight 100 tackle seasons who can be had for cheap in many dynasty leagues. While teams need to be built on youth, having a veteran presence like Davis as your third linebacker is a luxury most teams would love to have. When I consider “undervalued,” I look at what you can get in terms of production vs. price and I like what Davis continues to bring to the table, year after year. – Ken Kelly

Robert Quinn, OLB LAR

Do I wish he remained a defensive end for IDP purposes? Of course. Do I believe he has big time upside as a 3-4 outside linebacker in Wade Phillips’ defense? Absolutely. Wade Phillips has coached Von Miller, DeMarcus Ware and Shawn Merriman to elite fantasy seasons from the outside linebacker position and I believe he’s smart enough to maximize the vast potential of the oft-injured Robert Quinn. I’m expecting 12+ sacks in 2017. – Eric Olinger

There are a whole host of possibilities for the most undervalued IDP in dynasty leagues. A strong case can be made for Derek Wolfe, who sets the stage for Von Miller. KJ Wright could be the most unheralded player on the Legion of Boom. Whitney Mercilus is “mercilusly” overlooked in many rankings systems out there. Brandon Graham is a truly elite pass rusher with potential to be even better. Robert Quinn is poised for a huge year. Thomas Davis continues to be “old reliable.” There is much more to an IDP league than JJ Watt, Landon Collins or Khalil Mack. Who is your Most Undervalued IDP Player?
