FanDuel Bargains: Week 17

Mike Valverde

Editor’s Note: We’re going to be bringing you an unprecedented amount of content this year during the season, mostly dynasty related. However, seeing the explosion of DFS games, we’ll also be ramping up our Daily coverage, similar to last season. Even if you don’t play in DFS games, these articles can help you in making lineup decisions or judge the current value of your dynasty assets.

Over the next 17 weeks (and into the post-season), I’ll be highlighting some of the best bargains on the best daily site in the industry, FanDuel.

Keep in mind that these suggestions are for GPP (Guaranteed Prize Pool) tournaments with more than 50 participants where players are looking for bargains to fill out their lineups after already inserting their “studs” for the week. Many of them are risky plays and shouldn’t necessarily reflect good choices for head-to-head or 50/50 games. Rankings courtesy of ESPN.

Quarterback

E.J. Manuel, QB BUF ($5,000)

Tyrod Taylor will not play, and Manuel gets the start against the Jets. When you throw in his $5,000 price tag, it makes this an easy pull. His last game played was in October against the Jacksonville Jaguars, when he tossed two touchdowns and 298 yards. The Jags and Jets play a similar type of defense; it’s called crappy. The Jets have allowed 30 passing touchdowns, which trails only the woeful Browns in that department. I don’t see why Manuel can’t hover around his totals against Jacksonville this week versus the Jets.

Running Back

Robert Kelley, RB WAS ($5,900)

The Washington Redskins still are still fighting for a playoff position which means Robert Kelley will get the workload necessary to win. He didn’t play up to par last week when he faced off against an average rushing Chicago Bears defense. He was only able to put up 9.2 FanDuel points and has a tougher matchup against the Giants this week. New York has the seventh toughest defense against the run and only allow 13.9 points to running backs. But in week 17, it is difficult to find a low value with the volume he will get. Plus, Kelley is no slouch. He has been putting up over double-digit points in the two prior weeks to the Bears game.

Jacquizz Rodgers, RB TBY ($5,200)

With both Doug Martin and Charles Sims out for the game tomorrow, Rodgers should get all the reps he can handle. Tampa Bay is still technically alive in the playoff hunt, and Rodgers has something to prove. He has been bounced around in his six seasons, playing for three different teams, and hasn’t had over 100 carries until this year. He has played well in 2016 and could parlay this into a bigger contract. He’s a solid receiver and excellent in pass protection, which means he’ll be an every-down player once again. The Bucs face the Carolina Panthers this week, and Luke Kuechly will be out. Since Kuechly has been out of commission, the Panthers have allowed the 12th-most fantasy points per game to running backs over the past four weeks. His $5,200 price tag is also nice.

Wide Receivers

Jermaine Kearse, WR SEA ($4,500)

Jermaine Kearse will have more targets go his direction with the Tyler Lockett out (broken leg). When Lockett went down, Russell Wilson went to his direction. Kearse had nine targets and caught four passes for 37 yards and a touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals. This week the Seahawks have a much easier matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. San Francisco passing defense has allowed 29 passing touchdowns, the fourth-worst in the league. Facing the 49ers and having a $4,500 price tag is a great combination. The 49ers are 27th in fantasy points allowed to wide receivers with 24 a game.

Steve Smith, WR BAL ($5,800)

This could be the last hoorah for Steve Smith, and that means he should be in your lineup. With the Ravens out of the playoffs, Joe Flacco will look his direction as much as possible. At 37-years old Smith has played the game like a 28-year old. He is getting six-plus targets in every game but two this season and has touchdowns in back-to-back games. I am willing to be that Smith gets in the end zone once again, as Flacco will go all-out to get him the ball. Cincinnati has a strong passing defense allowing just 16.5 fantasy points per game, second-best in the NFL.

Tight End

Charles Clay, TE BUF ($5,600)

Charles Clay has turned his horrible season around. He went scoreless in his first 11 games. The last three have made up for most of the ineptitude. He has scored four touchdowns over that span and was good for 18 catches on 23 targets for 209 yards. Last week, he caught two scores and ran for 85-yards.   Now the Bills will face the New York Jets passing defense. What also could be a benefit is E.J. Manuel is making the start. Look for Manuel to keep his tight end busy against the poor secondary of the Jets. Clay and Manuel could make a nice stack play.
