DLF’s 2016 IDP Predictions: Fantasy MVP

Eric Olinger

I love this time of year. Even though most of our dynasty league drafts have long come and gone, there’s plenty of maneuvering to do through the month of August and into September. My favorite articles to read anywhere, not just at DLF, are roundtable type of articles. It’s awesome to hear the opinions of many fantasy football analysts when they’re asked the same question in the same context. The IDP team at DLF was asked to give their 2016 candidates in the following categories;

  • Fantasy IDP MVP
  • Fantasy IDP Rookie of the Year
  • Most Overvalued Dynasty IDP Player
  • Most Undervalued Dynasty IDP Player
  • Fantasy IDP Sleeper
  • Best Dynasty IDP Buy
  • Best Dynasty IDP Sell
  • Fantasy IDP Comeback Player of the Year

This article focuses on the Fantasy IDP MVP for 2016. Let’s get started!

Lavonte David, LB TB- David’s on-field performance slumped a bit last year, but his production remained as consistent as ever. I think he can take his play to another level in his fifth season in the NFL and become the highest scoring linebacker in IDP leagues. – Alex Onuschcocox

Carlos Dunlap, DE CIN- The guy is virtually unblockable, and he constantly fills the stat sheet. This is the year that Dunlap leaves J.J. Watt in his dust. –Dan Sainio

Fletcher Cox, DT PHI- A top-12 overall defensive player in 2015 scoring, MFL (via RotoWorld’s depth charts) moved Cox from defensive end to defensive tackle to significantly boost his value. With his contract negotiations settled and no questions about his motivation, he will put up monster defensive tackle numbers. – Jaron Foster

Alec Ogletree, MLB LA- Mack will be a favorite for the IDP MVP if a position designation change to defensive end happens, but if not, Alec Ogletree. The Rams still aren’t good enough to win many games, so teams are likely to be running against them frequently in an effort to burn the clock. Before his injury last year, Ogletree was a top five linebacker which should continue, if not improve, in 2016. The top linebacker is a realistic possibility. -Steve Wyremski

Luke Kuechly, MLB CAR- I’m sure this is no secret here and not going out on a limb at all, I like being right about at least one thing this season and it’ll be Kuechly being the IDP MVP, especially with Watt possibly being slow the first few games. –Adam Tzikas

Lavonte David, LB TB- I don’t think I’m really going out on a limb here, but I think Lavonte David is the favorite for the IDP MVP. Whether your league has tackle heavy scoring, big play, or balanced, David is likely to score very highly. –Zach Bahner

Luke Kuechly, MLB CAR- Watt’s injury could cost him not only a few games, but some of his legendary conditioning.  This positions Kuechly to be the IDP king for 2016 as long as he can stay healthy.  A true stud. –Trevor Bucher

Sean Lee, WLB DAL- Lee is a tackling machine and he’s always around the ball. Dallas’ defensive line is atrocious which should allow some added opportunities for him to get tackles. His health is a concern because he gets injured nearly every year, but for this season he’s a candidate to finish as the highest scoring linebacker in fantasy. –Bruce Matson

Luke Kuechly, MLB CAR- Normally it would be JJ Watt, hands down, but his injury could hurt his production this year as he appears to be rushed back from surgery. Therefore, Luke Kuechly appears to be the player next best able to crush it this season.  –TheFFGhost

ogletreeAlec Ogletree, MLB LA- With the departure of James Laurinaitis to New Orleans, the Rams have shifted Alec Ogletree into the middle of their 4-3. Few middle linebackers have the benefit of a front four as potent as the one Ogletree has in front of him. Prior to the ankle injury which shelved him for most of 2015, he posted consecutive 95 and 84 tackle seasons his first two years as a pro. As a true three down linebacker with athleticism to burn, Ogletree can not only rack up tackles, but drop into coverage and make plays in pass defense as well. He was a very good outside linebacker, but with Aaron Donald and Robert Quinn creating havoc in front of him, he’ll have the opportunity to compile a ton of tackles, and be one of the league’s best inside linebackers by season’s end. Statistically, perhaps the best. –Mo Brewington

Khalil Mack, DE OAK- Wherever he lines up on the field this year, he’s going to be an absolute beast. I think he’s the top IDP scorer, think of JJ Watt a few years back. NFL Defensive MVP.–Bill Edwards

Khalil Mack, DE OAK- He got moved back to the best classification for him just in time. Watt could miss a few games this year, and that could bump Mack over him in terms of total value this season. Mack has a 20-sack, 70-tackle ceiling at a premium position. –Joseph Redemann

Khalil Mack, DE OAK- Mack’s position was officially changed on Rotoworld’s depth charts while I was collection these submissions. I have a feeling some of the guys who submitted early may have taken Mack as well. Like previously mentioned, Mack is going to put up ridiculous numbers for a defensive end. This is nearly identical to the early career situation in which Terrell Suggs was one of IDP’s most sought after commodities. – Eric Olinger
