Five Names to Target During Devy Drafts

Tyler Morales

Ever since I joined my first Devy Dynasty fantasy football league last year I have been obsessed. For the scouting nerds like myself, this fantasy football league catered to my every need and became my favorite type of fantasy league. Dynasty drafts have been going for sometime now and I have noticed a few players that have not been getting the attention they truly deserve. In this article I will discuss five of my favorite devy prospects that are going unnoticed and that need to be targeted in every format.

Patrick Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech, Junior

2015 stats: 4,653 passing yards, 36 TDs, 63.5 completion percentage
456 rushing yards, 10 touchdowns

One of the most talented quarterback prospects in college football is not getting the type of attention he deserves. I selected him in round nine during one of my devy drafts and quite frankly that is ridiculous. Mahomes stands at 6-foot-3 and weighs in around 220 pounds. On the field Mahomes is a magician and is one of the most gifted quarterbacks in all of college football. He has a rocket arm which allows him to make all the throws on a football field. His accuracy is a bit spotty at times but he shows flashes of absolute brilliance in the pocket During his sophomore season, he made some of the best throws you will see during the 2015 season. He is also a top notch athlete as well; he was a pitcher for the Texas Tech baseball team before quitting to fully focus on football. In high school he was clocked in at a 4.62 40-yard dash according to his Hudl.com page. Outside of Deshaun Watson, nobody has the potential and ability like Mahomes. Make sure to target him during your devy drafts because the sky is the limit for this kid and it’s only a matter of time before he gains national notoriety.

Shelton Gibson, WR, West Virginia, Junior

2015 stats: 37 receptions, 887 yards, 24.0 average, nine TDs

The 5-foot-11, 195 pound Shelton Gibson led the Mountaineers with 887 yards while being second on the team in both receptions and targets. This man is a flat out playmaker and is lethal with the ball in his hands. According to multiple websites, Gibson recorded a 4.42 40-yard dash in high school and has only gotten faster. I was able to nab Gibson in the 19th round of my devy draft which is impressive for someone who is going to be the team’s top target next year. Don’t be shocked if by year’s end you hear Gibson’s name come up in the NFL draft conversation as a round two selection. Keep an eye out for Shelton Gibson and make sure you consider him in all devy drafts as a late round selection.

George Campbell, WR, Florida State, Sophomore

2015 stats: 3 receptions, 42 yards

This former five-star recruit is a freak of nature. Campbell stands at 6-foot-4, 192 pounds and clocked in at a 4.37 40-yard dash during the 2013 Nike Opening Camp as a junior. Campbell oozes with the kind of potential someone would want in a devy player. Campbell did not see the field much as a wide receiver during his freshman year at Florida State but this year he is poised for a breakout. He should be in line for many more snaps this year and should be able to showcase the talent we know he has. Coach Jimbo Fisher wants Campbell to be more consistent this year but is talking very highly of him. I have not seen Campbell’s name mentioned anywhere but I selected him in the middle rounds as a flier. The size and talent is there he just needs to capitalize on it. He has Dorial Green-Beckham like potential and I think this year we could see some of it.

Demore’ea Stringfellow, WR, Ole Miss, Junior

2015 stats: 36 receptions, 503 yards and five touchdowns

ESPN’s Travis Haney said Stringfellow will “become Chad Kelly’s go-to target in 2016.” This is huge news for someone as talented as Stringfellow. He will replace the target monster Laquon Treadwell as the team’s number one wide out. Stringfellow was a former top-100 recruit who originally committed to play at Washington. He was charged with fourth-degree assault while at Washington. He then transferred to Ole Miss and showcased his abilities as the team’s third/fourth option. The junior is listed at 6-foot-3, 229 pounds and has the size/speed/strength to become an elite wide receiver at Ole Miss. He is as gifted as anybody on this list and has to potential to be the best pro out of everybody. Expect Stringfellow’s numbers to double next year and I would expect him to declare for the draft if he fully maximizes his talents this upcoming season. He has first-round potential.

Marlon Mack, RB, USF, Junior
2015 stats: 1,381 yards, 6.6 average, eight touchdowns.

Mack has quietly been one of the most productive running backs in all of college football these past two seasons. Mack was a 1,000-yard rusher his freshman year and took the AAC by storm. Mack is a durable 6-foot-0, 200-pound running back who has a knack of getting positive yards every time he touches the ball. Next year’s class has the potential to be the best running back class ever and someone like Mack would be the star of the show in any other class. I stole Mack in the 21st round of my devy draft and smiled from ear to ear when I did it. Mack is already second all time in rushing at USF. He racked up 220 yards and two touchdowns against Temple which was one of the top defenses in the country last year. He has NFL starting potential and in a class that has the talent that next year’s running backs do he is likely to be forgotten. Take him whenever you feel comfortable because he will be worth it. Mack has too much talent to ignore.
