All About the Solo: Week 16

Eric Olinger

One of the most frustrating things in IDP leagues is seeing your stud linebacker fly all over the field on game days only to see the home score keeper dilute his performance by divvying up his tackles as assists. On the flip side, if your league doesn’t score solos and assists too differently, you’ll have a better idea of which teams hand out assists like candy. Not everyone knows this, but the NFL does not recognize a tackle as an official statistic. Tackles are scored by the home team’s official score keeper and those are the stats you see on the news and websites. The league made an effort to standardize what is and isn’t a solo tackle back in 2007 when they sent a video to all NFL teams, but it is still the discretion of the home score keeper. Even after this effort there is a still a large discrepancy from team to team and week-to-week. I will be tracking this throughout the season to give you a better idea of what to expect when choosing your IDPs each week.

For most of us, our league’s championship games were this past weekend and while some of us were given an extra Christmas present of a championship, most of us didn’t win our leagues. Don’t fret, the work never stops with a dynasty league and there are still plenty of moves to be made. In the IDP world, the landscape can change drastically from month to month and even week to week. We’re already seeing the coaching carousel in full swing with Jacksonville and Buffalo firing Gus Bradley and the Ryan brothers. Both Buffalo and Jacksonville home a lot of IDP fantasy assets. There are undoubtedly more firings just around the corner and linebackers will become defensive ends and vice versa in new schemes. Your fantasy teams may drastically change without you ever touching it. Stay focused and stay patient.

And if you’re in a league playing your championship game in week 17, think about firing your commish, but pay close attention to the teams resting starters this week. It’s not just the playoff teams resting players, vets playing in meaningless games often get to sit as well. Games will be won this week with guys you’ve barely heard of. Good luck and may the Force be with you.
