The Dynasty Aftermath, Week Twelve

Ken Kelly

Welcome to DLF’s Dynasty Aftermath. This staple article is our longest running signature piece as we have a little fun after a tough week at the Dynasty League Football office. You’ll find this article will review the week’s happenings in a variety of ways and help set you up for the coming weeks as we spin around the league in the way we know best.

I have a go-to when I get stressed out.  I eat!  I eat and eat and eat.  I do love my junk food and even though it’s not good for me long-term, it sure does work in the short term.  In fantasy football, we all have our junk foods – those things we fall back on when things get tough.  For me, it’s my ability to make a timely trade.  For others, it’s their ability to scour the waiver wire.  Whatever it is for you, it’s time to make those moves you need to as the season is getting as thin as a Nilla Wafer!

In honor of Sundays full of junk food, we bring you the Weekly Aftermath.

Week Twelve Fantasy MVP

When I mentioned Tyreek Hill as a player to pick up off waivers after week one, I honestly thought we had a player who had some long-term potential, but also one who was going to be a player at the bottom of your roster stash who you would likely be debating cutting later in the season if someone else emerged.

Wrong.

Hill has been a revelation for the Chiefs and has really come on with the injury to Jeremy Maclin. This week, the dynasty playmaker had three total touchdowns, with nine catches and TEN targets.  He’s now posted double digit scoring in five of the last six weeks.  In leagues with special teams scoring, he’s quickly becoming a must start.  Hill is better than a junk food binge at the moment – he’s the whole Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory.

Week Eleven Fantasy LVP

The smoke has been there for a month or so, but things really hit the fan for Brandin Cooks this week as he wasn’t even targeted in a game the Saints won 49-21. Michael Thomas is emerging and there are just too many good options for Drew Brees to force-feed Cooks, especially when he’s drawing the other team’s best cornerback. There are going to be some big games for Cooks coming up, but expect some clunkers as well. This is like ordering pizza from a new restaurant and tasting nothing but salt.

Gut Checks

I’d be worried if I ate like Ken Kelly.  That’s a REAL gut check.

I’d be worried if I was playing against Kirk Cousins.

I’d be worried if I was expecting consistency from Jared Cook.

I’d be worried if I didn’t have a Sonic in my town.

I’d be worried if I think Marqise Lee’s production is a fluke.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t really curious about what the future held for Terrelle Pryor in free agency.

I’d be worried if I had Todd Gurley.

I’d be worried if I thought Tyler Boyd was going to step in and be AJ Green.

I’d be worried if I didn’t think Marcus Mariota was a QB1.

I’d be worried if I hadn’t tried that KFC Famous Bowl.

I’d be worried if I thought LeSean McCoy was washed up.

I’d be worried if I thought Doug Martin was back to 100%.

I’d be worried if I had Victor Cruz.  I just don’t see him coming back to form.

I’d be worried if I was playing against Ezekiel Elliott or Mike Evans.  Wow.

I’d be worried if I was counting on any running back on Minnesota or Green Bay.

A Look Ahead to Hot Names on the Waiver Wire

Remember, we focus on the lesser names here. There’s really no need to be telling people of your skill level to pick up players you undoubtedly have like Spencer Ware, Chris Hogan, Mohamed Sanu or Tyrell Williams. We’re also not going to list obvious names you likely have rostered like Wendell Smallwood. Pay close attention because we tend to be ahead of the curve.

1.) Marquess Wilson, WR CHI

Matt Barkley wasn’t horrible this week and Wilson is always a player just inside or outside rosters.

2.) Matt Barkley, QB CHI

See Wilson, Marquess

Other than that, we’ve mentioned just about everyone we can think of or would be mentioning players you’d drop who are likely better prospects. As per usual, the wire is getting really thin at this point of the year.
