SEC

Premier Conference Performer

Derrius Guice, RB LSU (Sophomore)

21 carries, 252 yards, two touchdowns vs. Arkansas

With pair of talented running backs for LSU have been alternating amazing performances throughout the season and last week it was Derrius Guice’s turn. Guice rushed for 252 yards on 21 carries, thanks in large part to a 96-yard touchdown run. Leonard Fournette also had a big game though, totaling 142 yards on 19 touches, including three scoring runs. As you can tell, the Tigers ran all over Arkansas in a dominating performance. There’s little reason to compare these backs. Instead, just sit back and enjoy as both become NFL stars.

Rising

Josh Dobbs, QB Tennessee (Senior)

11/17 passing, 223 yards, three touchdowns, one interception, 14 carries, 147 rushing yards, two touchdowns vs. Kentucky

Alvin Kamara, RB Tennessee (Junior)

Ten carries, 128 yards, two touchdowns vs. Kentucky

After destroying in-state foe Tennessee Tech the previous week to break a losing streak, the Volunteers had another “get right” game against Kentucky. After starting back Jalen Hurd surprisingly quit the team, both quarterback Josh Dobbs and new starting back Alvin Kamara were left to do the bulk of the rushing and both players enjoyed banner games against the Wildcats. Not only did Dobbs throw for over 200 yards and three scores, but he also led the team in rushing with 147 yards. Kamara was no slouch with 128 yards of his own on only ten carries. Dobbs future as a NFL player is still unclear, but Kamara has already made it clear he will be bolting for the league following this season.

Jordan Scarlett, RB Florida (Sophomore)

20 carries, 134 yards vs. South Carolina

After competing in a running back by committee for much of the season, sophomore Jordan Scarlett has seemingly broken free of his Gators teammates. Against the Gamecocks on Saturday, Scarlett set a new career high with 134 rushing yards. He’ll be leaned on heavily as the Gators will be without quarterback Luke Del Rio, potentially for the remainder of the season.

Falling

Nick Chubb, RB Georgia (Junior)

23 carries, 101 yards vs. Auburn

Sony Michel, RB Georgia (Junior)

Ten carries, 55 yards, three receptions, 18 yards vs. Auburn

Although running back Nick Chubb did break the 100-yard barrier for the first time in over a month, it was still not the dominating performance college football fans had grown accustomed to. At this point, there is a growing gap between Chubb and running backs like Fournette and Florida State’s Dalvin Cook when projecting 2017 dynasty value. Likewise, Chubb’s backup Sony Michel had another quiet game, totaling less than 75 yards in the Bulldogs’ upset win over Auburn.

Travin Dural, WR LSU (Senior) Three receptions, 31 yards

Malachi Dupre, WR LSU (Junior) Two receptions, 60 yards

The LSU offense is back on track after matching up against Alabama two weeks ago. Last week, the Tigers put up 38 points on a top 25 team in Arkansas. Still, little of that offensive production came through the air. Junior receiver Malachi Dupre did lead the team in receiving with 60 yards on a pair of catches, while senior Travin Dural contributed 31 yards on three grabs. In his recent three round NFL mock draft, Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller didn’t even mention either of the Bayou Bengals receivers. Both could be second round options in dynasty rookie drafts, with Dupre still having the option of returning to school.

Alabama Update

The Crimson Tide once again rolled, defeating Mississippi State 51-3. Freshman quarterback Jalen Hurts led the way with career highs on passing yards (347) and touchdowns (four) and adding 100 rushing yards and another score.

The backfield carousel continued for Bama and this time it was freshman Joshua Jacobs led the backs with 89 yards on just nine carries. Damien Harris has been the team’s leader for much of the season, but managed just three carries for nine yards. With Harris and Jacobs both underclassmen, this flip flop of roles could continue into 2017, mixing in talented freshman BJ Emmons. Bo Scarbrough didn’t play as he’s been dealing with a minor knee injury. In a year many expected to be Scarbrough’s breakout, he has failed to increase his value and is likely to return to Alabama, even in a reserve role.

In yet another blowout, Hurts spread the ball around. Star receiver Calvin Ridley had just four catches for 26 yards and a score, while tight end OJ Howard was involved, catching six balls for 77 yards. Junior receiver ArDarius Stewart was the star of the game, hauling in eight passes for 156 yards and three scores. Like the backfield, most of the top pass catchers are expected back next season, other than Howard, who bypassed the draft a year ago.

Freshman Spotlight

Shea Patterson, QB Mississippi (Freshman)

25/42 passing, 338 yards, one touchdown, 15 carries, 64 yards vs. Texas A&M

With senior Chad Kelly done for the season after tearing his ACL, the Rebels have removed the redshirt from prized recruit Shea Patterson and he didn’t disappoint in his debut. Patterson threw for 337 yards and a pair of touchdowns, leading a fierce Ole Miss comeback to defeat Texas A&M. Some disagreed with using up a year of Patterson’s eligibility with only a few games to play, but in reality, he’ll likely only be on campus for the minimum three seasons anyway.
